Classification of athletes in light of the results of swimmers with locomotor disability obtained during the Paralympic Games in 2000-2012

AbstractClassification of athletes in disability sports aims to give athletes equal opportunities in competition. In most sport disciplines, athlete’s functional capabilities are taken into consideration and on this basis the athlete is classified into the appropriate sport class. The issue is relevant and it is an important direction of research undertaken in the field of disability sport. Assuming that sport results are resultants of athlete’s functional capabilities and level of training, the analysis of sports results obtained by athletes with disabilities, especially those obtained during major events, becomes the focus of research.The aim of the analysis was to enable an assessment of the classification system in relation to the results obtained by swimmers in each sport class. For the analysis we used the official results in swimming in all styles at all distances, obtained during Paralympics Games in 2000-2012 by women and menwith locomotor disability. To assess the significance of differences in results between particular sport classes, the Mann–Whitney U test was used. The adopted level of significance was set at p < 0.05.The results of the analysis indicate that the classification system for swimming differentiates competitors in terms of the results obtained. This refers mainly to men in particular sport classes, which may be an indicator of a high performance level in this sports discipline. In the case of women, no differences (in some cases) have been observed between the results obtained by athletes, especially between classes where swimmers with smaller functional deficits compete. This can serve as a reason for combining these classes, which could lead to the increase in sports performance level in women’s swimming.

AbstractThe recent Olympic Games in London incited much interest in the competition of disabled athletes. Various people connected with swimming, including coaches and athletes, have speculated about the fairness of competitions of disabled athletes. A constant problem are the subjective methods of classification in disabled sport. Originally, athletes with disabilities were classified according to medical diagnosis. Due to the injustice which still affects the competitors, functional classification was created shortly after. In the present review, the authors show the anomalies in the structure of the classification. The presented discovery led to the suggestion to introduce objective methods, thanks to which it would be no longer necessary to rely on the subjective assessment of the classifier. According to the authors, while using objective methods does not completely rule out the possibility of fraud by disabled athletes in the classification process, it would certainly reduce their incidence. Some of the objective methods useful for the classification of disabled athletes are: posturography, evaluation of the muscle parameters, electrogoniometric assessment, surface electromyography, and analysis of kinematic parameters. These methods have provide objective evaluation in the diagnostic sense but only if they are used in tandem. The authors demonstrate the undeniable benefits of using objective methods. Unfortunately, there are not only advantages of such solution, there also several drawbacks to be found. The conclusion of the article is the statement by the authors that it is right to use objective methods which allow to further the most important rule in sport: fair-play.

The article provides an overview of modern high-performance combined-cycle plants and gas turbine plants with waste heat boilers. The forecast for the introduction of gas turbine equipment at TPPs in the world and in Russia is presented. The classification of gas turbines according to the degree of energy efficiency and operational characteristics is given. Waste heat boilers are characterized in terms of design and associated performance and efficiency. To achieve high operating parameters of gas turbine and boiler equipment, it is necessary to use, among other things, modern water treatment equipment. The article discusses modern effective technologies, the leading place among which is occupied by membrane, and especially baromembrane methods of preparing feed water-waste heat boilers. At the same time, the ion exchange technology remains one of the most demanded at TPPs in the Russian Federation.

<P>Background: The cloud computing is the modern trend in high-performance computing. Cloud computing becomes very popular due to its characteristic of available anywhere, elasticity, ease of use, cost-effectiveness, etc. Though the cloud grants various benefits, it has associated issues and challenges to prevent the organizations to adopt the cloud. </P><P> Objective: The objective of this paper is to cover the several perspectives of Cloud Computing. This includes a basic definition of cloud, classification of the cloud based on Delivery and Deployment Model. The broad classification of the issues and challenges faced by the organization to adopt the cloud computing model are explored. Examples for the broad classification are Data Related issues in the cloud, Service availability related issues in cloud, etc. The detailed sub-classifications of each of the issues and challenges discussed. The example sub-classification of the Data Related issues in cloud shall be further classified into Data Security issues, Data Integrity issue, Data location issue, Multitenancy issues, etc. This paper also covers the typical problem of vendor lock-in issue. This article analyzed and described the various possible unique insider attacks in the cloud environment. </P><P> Results: The guideline and recommendations for the different issues and challenges are discussed. The most importantly the potential research areas in the cloud domain are explored. </P><P> Conclusion: This paper discussed the details on cloud computing, classifications and the several issues and challenges faced in adopting the cloud. This helps the researchers, academicians and industries to focus and address the current challenges faced by the customers.</P>

Previous studies of ultraviolet spectral classification have been insufficient to establish a comprehensive classification system for ultraviolet spectra of early-type stars because of inadequate spectral resolution. We have initiated a new study of ultraviolet spectral classification of B stars using high-dispersion IUE archival data. High-dispersion SWP spectra of MK standards and other B stars are retrieved from the IUE archives and numerically degraded to a uniform resolution of 0.25 or 0.50 Å. The spectra (in the form of plots or photowrites) are then visually examined with the aim of setting up a two-dimensional classification matrix. We follow the method used to create the MK classification system for visual spectra. The purpose of this work is to examine the applicability of the MK system (and in particular, the set of standard stars) in the ultraviolet, and to establish classification criteria in this spectral region.

The article describes a method for placing information into a classification system that maximizes the flexibility in retrieval at a later time. It uses (1) a stack of edge-punched cards containing information of interest that has been punched according to (2) a coding system developed by the users. The authors have developed a classification system for the small-group field which is depicted and described in detail. It allows for coding a study on about 50 dimensions to (1) locate an article, (2) give an over-all description of the article, and (3) indicate the variables measured or discussed. Examples of uses and discussion of special features are provided to give the reader sufficient information to establish and use the system or a similar system for his own purposes.

PurposeWhen the augmentative and alternative communication (ACC) model (Lloyd et al., 1990) was proposed, these components of symbols were not considered, nor were they contemplated when superordinate (Lloyd and Fuller, 1986) and subordinate levels (Fuller et al., 1992) of AAC symbol taxonomy were developed. The purpose of this paper is to revisit the ACC model and propose a new symbol classification system called multidimensional quaternary symbol continuum (MQSC)Design/methodology/approachThe field of AAC is evolving at a rapid rate in terms of its clinical, social, research and theoretical underpinnings. Advances in assessment and intervention methods, technology and social issues are all responsible to some degree for the significant changes that have occurred in the field of AAC over the last 30 years. For example, the number of aided symbol collections has increased almost exponentially over the past couple of decades. This study focused on the classification of EEG signal. The study aims to make a classification with fast response and high-performance rate. Thus, it could be possible for real-time control applications as Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) systems. The feature vector is created by Wavelet transform and statistical calculations. It is trained and tested with a neural network. The db4 wavelet is used in the study. Pwelch, skewness, kurtosis, band power, median, standard deviation, min, max, energy, entropy are used to make the wavelet coefficients meaningful. The performance is achieved as 99.414% with the running time of 0.0209 seconds

Abstract Study question Is there a classification for a complete mapping of endometriosis, including anatomical location, size of the lesions, and degree of involvement that can be used with both, diagnostics and surgery? Summary answer #Enzian classification improves in both, non-invasive diagnostic methods and surgical therapy for endometriosis as a universally usable classification system for all aspects of the disease. What is known already The most commonly used r-ASRM classification has certain limitations due to its incomplete description of DE, the complexity of the classification, and lack of reproducibility. In contrast, the Enzian classification, which has been implemented in the last decade, has proved to be the most suitable for the description of DE. However, since it does not include peritoneal and ovarian lesions and lacks a description of tubo-ovarian adhesions, it has not gained full acceptance. A combination of classification with different systems such as r-ASRM, EFI score and Enzian, may complicate classification of the disease due to overlaps and time-consuming documentation. Study design, size, duration The result is a consensus of a panel of renowned clinicians (working group), gynaecological surgeons and sonographers with extensive expertise in diagnosis and therapy of endometriosis. A first draft was written in 2019 by a joint effort of the first and last author and sent to all working group members. Taking all comments into account, a revised draft was then sent to all coauthors and repeated until a consensus was reached (9 revisions). Participants/materials, setting, methods Criteria used to invite the experts to participate in this consensus process included their having significant peer-reviewed publications in the field of diagnosis and management of endometriosis. Main results and the role of chance Our current proposal is the first of its kind to universally describe superficial and deep endometriosis, ovarian endometriosis, adenomyosis and adhesions by using a classification system that can be applied by gynaecologists, surgeons, sonographers and radiologists following the same principles. The correlation between preoperative and surgical staging, on the basis of the Enzian scheme, allows for consistent and clear classification of endometriosis, especially DE. Endometriosis can be mapped completely with one single classification system enabling the use of one common language. Limitations, reasons for caution This classification system is anatomically logical and should be easy to use. Further studies are ongoing and are needed to provide proof for the applicability, reproducibility and accuracy of the #Enzian classification for the description of endometriosis. Wider implications of the findings: #Enzian classification now enabled better coverage of various endometriosis localizations. The possibility of using this system preoperatively as well as postoperatively within the framework of diagnostics offers clinicians a significant improvement in the care of patients with such a complex disease. The paper contains the results of classification of rivers and streams of the Republic of Moldova according to classic Strahler method. Mentioned method was applied to estimate the hierarchical rank of the stream segments situated in 50 pilot basins using modern GIS techniques and drainage network of the GIS for Water Resources of Moldova. It was estimated that the maximal order of segments is 7 specific for the Raut and Ialpug rivers. Overall, length of 1st order streams forms 50%, while that of 7th order streams - < 1%. Additionally, stream number and frequency as well as drainage density were calculated for pilot river basins.
