Abstract It is suggested to diagonalize the Hamilton operator of a two-or more center shell model in terms of oscillator functions concentrated around the individual centers. The method is applied to the case of a two center oscillator with finite depth.

Abstract The absorption behaviour of Mn2+ -ions in CeO2 has been investigated and interpreted for the first time. Beside the hyperfine-multiplett with selection rules ΔM =1 and Δm = 0 we observed forbidden transitions with ΔM = 1 and Δm=± 1 At T = 29Q K the line width is rather small and amounts to 2.5 G. The entire spectrum can be described by an isotropic spin-Hamilton operator with g=1.9989 and A = 86.36·10-4 cm -1 . It is shown for Mn2+ in the crystal-field of oxygen-ions that there is a linear relationship between the hyperfine coupling constant A and the coordination number.

Dynamical symmetries of Hamiltonians quantized models of discrete nonlinear Schrödinger chain (DNLS) and of Ablowitz–Ladik chain (AL) are studied. It is shown that for n-sites the dynamical algebra of DNLS Hamilton operator is given by the su(n) algebra, while the respective symmetry for the AL case is the quantum algebra suq(n). The q-deformation of the dynamical symmetry in the AL model is due to the non-canonical oscillator-like structure of the raising and lowering operators at each site. Invariants of motions are found in terms of Casimir central elements of su(n) and suq(n) algebra generators, for the DNLS and QAL cases respectively. Utilizing the representation theory of the symmetry algebras we specialize to the n=2 quantum dimer case and formulate the eigenvalue problem of each dimer as a nonlinear (q)-spin model. Analytic investigations of the ensuing three-term nonlinear recurrence relations are carried out and the respective orthonormal and complete eigenvector bases are determined. The quantum manifestation of the classical self-trapping in the QDNLS-dimer and its absence in the QAL-dimer, is analysed by studying the asymptotic attraction and repulsion respectively, of the energy levels versus the strength of nonlinearity. Our treatment predicts for the QDNLS-dimer, a phase-transition like behaviour in the rate of change of the logarithm of eigenenergy differences, for values of the nonlinearity parameter near the classical bifurcation point.

Abstract It is known that the application of the group theory greatly simplifies the problems of polyatomic systems possessing to any space symmetry. The symmetry properties of such systems are their most important characteristics. In such systems, the Hamilton operator is invariant under unitary symmetry transformations and rearrangements of identical particles in the coordinate system. This allows to obtain information about the character of one-electron wave functions — molecular orbitals — the considered system, i.e. to symmetrise the original wave functions without solving the Schrödinger equation.

Die Theorie der Supraleitung von BCS wird konsequent auf der Grundlage der kollektiven Beschreibung von Bardeen und Pines weitergeführt. Für die BCS-quasi-Teilchenpaare erhält man die Gleichungen der Bewegung mit dem vollständigen Elektronen-Hamilton-Operator (BCS-Basisanteil plus von BCS vernachlässigte Wechselwirkungen zwischen Elektronenpaaren mit einem von 0 verschiedenen Gesamtimpuls und Gesamtspin 0) nach der verallgemeinerten „random phase approximation“, und mit ihrer Hilfe werden die Korrekturen der Matrixelemente der Dichteschwankungen gegenüber den Matrixelementen mit BCS-Anregungen bestimmt. Diese korrigierten Matrixelemente werden in die allgemeinen Ausdrücke für die longitudinale Dielektrizitätskonstante und die abgeschirmte Austauschenergie eingesetzt, wie sie sich nach der gewöhnlichen gut gesicherten random phase approximation in einer zu Nozieres und Pines analogen Formulierung ergeben. Die entstehenden Summen lassen sich mit Hilfe von Wentzel-Transformationen in Integrationen umformen und auswerten. Die Ergebnisse sind: Die Plasmafrequenzen sowie die Komponenten der abgeschirmten Austauschenergie zu kleinen Wellenzahlen werden durch den Übergang normal-supraleitend nicht beeinflußt. Das Ergebnis von BCS für die Kondensationsenergie des supraleitenden Zustandes beim absoluten Nullpunkt der Temperatur und die daraus gezogenen Schlußfolgerungen bleiben somit auch unter Berücksichtigung der von der weitreichenden Coulomb-Wechselwirkung stammenden Energien im Rahmen der benutzten Approximationen richtig.
