AbstractThe development of chemistry is closely related to the sustainable development of human civilization. The problems of exposure to chemicals on the human body are complex. Humans are potentially more susceptible to the damaging effects of chemical pollution if they are in a weakened physical or mental state (already in a state of physical or mental stress). One of the approaches, that simultaneously addresses both of the above mentioned issues, is the green chemistry concept. Governmental regulation should be seen as a framework mechanism. We see great potential in using the principles of green chemistry in the framework of the Responsible Care program. Green chemistry is a tool for the sustainable development of chemistry and the chemical industry.

The sustainable development of the northern Shaanxi area has been severely restricted by the increasingly serious issue of the environmental pollution and ecological destruction in the energy and chemical industry base there. This paper, based on the thorough analysis to the investigation data about the environmental status and the existing problems of energy and chemical industry base in northern Shaanxi, construct evaluation index system of the base sustainable development. The paper evaluated comprehensively the level of sustainable development in energy and chemical industry base in Northern Shaanxi based on statistical data in past years. It reveals the contradiction and the plight of economic, resource and environment in the process of current base, and shows the urgent problems which must be solved in the future.

The phosphogypsum is a byproduct of the phosphorus chemical industry, which has not high utilization ratio, is the main area of stockpiling and affects the environment and the sustainable development of phosphorus chemical enterprises. Based on the sulfur resources utilization status from the existing phosphogypsum in the article, the use patterns on the phosphogypsum are divided into three types of hot, wet and biological methods, and there are the reviews on the utilization status of the various methods.

Abstract In the foreseeable future, human beings will continue to live on this blue planet named Earth. Our planet has limited space, resources and environmental carrying capacity, yet the human population and quality of life will continue to rise. Economic development and environmental protection are often conflicting goals, and it is a great challenge for us to achieve both at the same time: to develop sustainably. Green chemistry—the aim of making the whole industrial chain of chemistry and chemical industry environmentally friendly—has contributed, and will further contribute, to the sustainable development of the chemical industry. Recently, NSR talked with Buxing Han—an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and one of the leading scientists in this field. Han introduced the major scientific issues of green chemistry and talked about the challenges and future developments of this field.

Green economy has invested in the sustainable development of the society across the globe. Therefore, the study has focused on differential ways that green economy provided for the reduction of misusing limited resources along with the reduction of environmental pollution. Since, the study has been conducted on the global issue, the nature of the analysis would be qualitative. The data has been collected from the previous studies on green economy. The results have shown the different factors that affect the society, which included wastes, toxic gases, and the hazardous solvents ecologically as well as economically. The implementation of green chemistry was the solution provided to eliminate poverty and pollution from the society. In the years 1990 and 2010, the emissions of non-methane compounds were increased by 71% and decreased by 4%. Whereas, the emissions of nitrogen oxides were increased by 62% and decreased by 3%. Moreover, intelligent usage of limited resources have provided better ways to increase economic growth and reduce toxins from the atmosphere. Adoption of green economy in the countries can be useful on the economic and social grounds as they helped in decreasing the environment pollution and along with the misuse of limited resources.

Abstract The development of chemical industry has brought civilization and economic benefits. Nowadays it is hard to image the everyday life without chemical products whose usage raises living standards. Unfortunately, the civilization development, where chemistry significantly contributed, caused unfavourable changes in natural environment. In order to stop further environment degradation, different initiatives are being taken up. They also concern activities in favour of chemical threats reduction. Particular role among those activities plays the concept of green chemistry which lists in the framework of sustainable development. One of the methods implementation of sustainable development rules is the properly conducted education in formal and non-formal dimensions. Education Decade for Sustainable Development announced by United Nations General Assembly, testifies its importance. The paper brings a closer current model of ecological (environmental) education on different teaching stages. A method of diagnostic survey was used in order to estimate the level of students` ecological awareness. The research is a continuation of our previous works. A survey was chosen as a research technique, and a questionnaire was a research tool. The questionnaire included 22 questions (closed and half-open ones). The research took into consideration only selected elements of ecological awareness. A special attention was paid to estimation of students` knowledge chemical threat aspects and protection of natural environment. Moreover, the paper presents historical outline of chemical industry development and its significance for civilization. The idea of green chemistry and its educational importance was shown as an example aiming at the reduction of chemical threats.
