Abstract In this paper the authors prove the existence as well as approximations of the solutions for the Bagley-Torvik equation admitting only the existence of a lower (coupled lower and upper) solution. Our results rely on an appropriate fixed point theorem in partially ordered normed linear spaces. Illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of our technique.

Some hybrid fixed point theorems of Krasnosel’skii type, which involve product of two operators, are proved in partially ordered normed linear spaces. These hybrid fixed point theorems are then applied to fractional integral equations for proving the existence of solutions under certain monotonicity conditions blending with the existence of the upper or lower solution.

Sedghiet al.(Mat. Vesn. 64(3):258-266, 2012) introduced the notion of anS-metric as a generalized metric in 3-tuples S:X3→[0,∞), whereXis a nonempty set. In this paper we prove a tripled fixed point theorem for mapping having the mixed monotone property in partially ordered S-metric space. Our result generalize the result of Savitri and Nawneet Hooda (Int. J. Pure Appl. Sci. Technol. 20(1):111-116, 2014, On tripled fixed point theorem in partially ordered metric space) into the settings of S-metric space.

The purpose of this paper is to prove some new fixed point theorem and common fixed point theorems of a commuting family of order-preserving mappings defined on an ordered set, which unify and generalize some relevant fixed point theorems.

We generalize a fixed point theorem in partially ordered complete metric spaces in the study of A. Amini-Harandi and H. Emami (2010). We also give an application on the existence and uniqueness of the positive solution of a multipoint boundary value problem with fractional derivatives.
