Abstract This paper is aimed on the calculation of the electrical parameters of the overhead transmission lines. Standard trans- position and untransposed calculations are presented, also with results on the existing power line on 110 kV voltage level and known measured values of the electrical parameters. These measured parameters are used as the reference values. A presumption is made, that through more complex calculation one can achieve better results. The real results achieved are presented and compared with an ideal presumption

Lighting is one of the important reasons of transmission line trip accident. For 330kV and above ultra high voltage transmission line, lighting flashover more frequently occur. To reduce tripping rate effectively and fundamentally, lightning over voltage level should be analyzed besides anti-pollution flashover. In this paper, a simplified equivalent circuit model of a 330kV overhead transmission lines is established. The lightning over voltage of the transmission is analyzed and calculated. Method to reduce the lightning overvoltage is discussed.

The health maintenance of linemen working at overhead transmission lines under induced voltage requires compliance of these voltages’ limit values. To ensure compliance with these requirements have been developed algorithms for calculating of currents and voltages distribution along the grounded phase/cable of disconnected power line, induced by the electric field of operating three-phase overhead power line without transposition, with full and incomplete complete phases transposition section .

It is important to choose suitable insulator strings that matching the voltage level when trying to change an AC transmission line into a DC one. Historically based, most published works discuss the way of determining the number or the length of insulators for overhead transmission lines, which mainly consider about voltage levels, pollution classes, insulator types and their pollution performances. It calls for too much work for a line restructuring project. In order to simplify the work, a comparison of the choosing of insulator strings between AC and DC overhead transmission line is made in this paper. Two main results are obtained. One is that the ratio, which defined as α, of the number of insulator on DC transmission line and that on AC transmission line ranges from 1 to 2.5 with the decreasing of voltage level under the same pollution class, the other is that the value α remains substantially constant under the same voltage level, and it will decrease slightly as the pollution class increases. The results provide theoretical basis for the choosing of insulator strings in line restructuring projects.
