Abstract The controllability and observability of fractional different orders discrete-time linear systems are analyzed. The relationship between controllability and observability of standard and fractional discrete-time linear systems are investigated. The influence of the fractional order on the controllability and observability is shown. Investigations are illustrated on numerical examples.

AbstractPractical stability of a fractional order discrete-time linear state-space systems was put up in recent years. It is usually checked by the eigenvalues of the state matrix, some methods have been given during these years. But if the size of the state matrix is large, the computations of eigenvalues can be very onerous. In this paper, some new conditions on practical stability for positive fractional discrete-time linear system are presented. Numerically checking method of practical stability is presented based on the new conditions given in this paper. It is illustrated by the numerical examples that our checking method is effective and true. Compared to the now existing methods, numerically checking method is an attractive method because it’s easily implemented.

Positivity of descriptor linear systems with regular pencilsThe positivity of descriptor continuous-time and discrete-time linear systems with regular pencils are addressed. Such systems can be reduced to standard linear systems and can be decomposed into dynamical and static parts. Two definitions of the positive systems are proposed. It is shown that the definitions are not equivalent. Conditions for the positivity of the systems and the relationship between two classes of positive systems are established. The considerations are illustrated by examples of electrical circuits and numerical examples.

Methods for finding solutions of the state equations of descriptor fractional discrete-time and continuous-time linear systems with regular pencils are proposed. The derivation of the solution formulas is based on the application of the Z transform, the Laplace transform and the convolution theorems. Procedures for computation of the transition matrices are proposed. The efficiency of the proposed methods is demonstrated on simple numerical examples.

AbstractThe article presents a class of perfect observers for standard continuous-time linear systems. Observers are resistant to significant changes in the dynamics of the system. The value of poles of the system can be unlimited as long as their number does not change and the conditions presented in this article are satisfied. There are presented numerical examples and simulations results.

Robust stability of positive discrete-time linear systems of fractional orderThe paper is devoted to the problem of robust stability of linear positive discrete-time systems of fractional order with structured perturbations of state matrices. Simple necessary and sufficient conditions for robust stability in the general case and in the case of linear uncertainty structure with unity rank uncertainty structure and with non-negative perturbation matrices, are established. It is shown that robust stability of the positive discrete-time fractional system is equivalent to: 1) robust stability of the corresponding positive discrete-time system of natural order - in the general case, 2) robust stability of the corresponding finite family of positive discrete-time systems of natural order - in the case of linear unity rank uncertainty structure, 3) asymptotic stability of only one corresponding positive discrete-time system of natural order - in the case of linear uncertainty structure with non-negative perturbation matrices. Moreover, simple necessary and sufficient condition for robust stability of the positive interval discrete-time linear systems of fractional order is given. The considerations are illustrated by numerical examples.

Abstract The positive asymptotically stable continuous-time linear systems are approximated by corresponding asymptotically stable discrete-time linear systems. Two methods of the approximation are presented and the comparison of the methods is addressed. The considerations are illustrated by three numerical examples and an example of positive electrical circuit.

Abstract Fractional descriptor reduced-order observers for fractional descriptor continuous-time linear systems are proposed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the observers are established. The design procedure of the observers is given and is demonstrated on two numerical examples.
