AbstractThis article deals with the investigation of three-dimensional axisymmetric steady flow of micropolar fluid over a rotating disk in a slip-flow regime. Further, the generation of entropy due to heat transfer and fluid friction is identified. It is noticed that the entropy generation can be decreased and controlled in the presence of slip. The anisotropic slip has vital characteristics and it has a great influence on the flow field and heat transfer. The von Kármán similarity transformation is used to establish the equations governing the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the fluid. The impact of some important parameters on velocity profiles, angular velocity (microrotation) and energy distribution is discussed and illustrated through graphs and tables. The effects of physical parameters on the entropy generation and Bejan numbers are also presented graphically. In addition, the most favorable agreement is observed among the results of the present study and those of the earlier studies.

The current study aims to probe the impacts of entropy in a hydromagnetic unsteady slip flow of viscous fluid past an exponentially stretching sheet. Appurtenant similarity variables are employed to transmute the governing partial differential equations into a system of non-linear differential equations, which are analytically solved by utilizing the homotopy analysis method (HAM). Moreover, a shooting technique with fourth–fifth order Runge–Kutta method is deployed to numerically solve the problem. The impact of the physical parameters that influence the flow and heat transmission phenomena are sketched, tabulated and discussed briefly. Additionally, the impact of these parameters on entropy generation is thoroughly discussed by plotting graphs of the local entropy generation number and the Bejan number.

This research deals with an analysis of the Hall current effect on the mixed convective magneto-micropolar fluid flow over a permeable stretching/shrinking sheet. Impact of the Newtonian heating parameter is analyzed in the slip flow regime. The nonlinear equations of the fluid flow are derived with the help of a similarity transform and its solutions are obtained by Optimal Homotopy Analysis Method (OHAM). For limiting cases, obtained results are in excellent agreement with the available exact and numerical results in the literature. The graphical and tabular representations of the obtained results show significant effects of the physical parameters on the magneto-micropolar fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics. In particular, it is observed that, as the sheet stretches, a change in the Hall current parameter yields a higher horizontal velocity component for the lower value of the magnetic field parameter; while it produces a higher and shorter transverse velocity profile at high intensity of the magnetic field. In Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) generators, Hall effects are an important consideration to analyze the heat transfer phenomenon with high temperature conducting fluids.

AbstractThe present investigation deals with the steady three-dimensional flow and heat transfer of nanofluids due to stretching sheet in the presence of magnetic field and heat source. Three types of water based nanoparticles namely, copper (Cu), aluminium oxide (Al2O3), and titanium dioxide (TiO2) are considered in this study. The temperature dependent variable thermal conductivity and thermal radiation has been introduced in the energy equation. Using suitable similarity transformations the dimensional non-linear expressions are converted into dimensionless system and are then solved numerically by Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg scheme along with well-known shooting technique. The impact of various flow parameters on axial and transverse velocities, temperature, surface frictional coefficients and rate of heat transfer coefficients are visualized both in qualitative and quantitative manners in the vicinity of stretching sheet. The results reviled that the temperature and velocity of the fluid rise with increasing values of variable thermal conductivity parameter. Also, the temperature and normal velocity of the fluid in case of Cu-water nanoparticles is more than that of Al2O3- water nanofluid. On the other hand, the axial velocity of the fluid in case of Al2O3- water nanofluid is more than that of TiO2nanoparticles. In addition, the current outcomes are matched with the previously published consequences and initiate to be a good contract as a limiting sense.

In this study, a numerical approach was adopted in order to explore the analysis of magneto fluid in the presence of thermal radiation combined with mixed convective and slip conditions. Using the similarity transformation, the axisymmetric three-dimensional boundary layer equations were reduced to a self-similar form. The shooting technique, combined with the Range–Kutta–Fehlberg method, was used to solve the resulting coupled nonlinear momentum and heat transfer equations numerically. When physically interpreting the data, some important observations were made. The novelty of the present study lies in finding help to control the rate of heat transfer and fluid velocity in any industrial manufacturing processes (such as the cooling of metallic plates). The numerical results revealed that the Nusselt number decrease for larger Prandtl number, curvature, and convective parameters. At the same time, the skin friction coefficient was enhanced with an increase in both slip velocity and convective parameter. The effect of emerging physical parameters on velocity and temperature profiles for a nonlinear stretching cylinder has been thoroughly studied and analyzed using plotted graphs and tables.

A calculation method for counter-current type coil-wound heat exchanger is presented for heat exchange process. The numerical simulation method is applied to determine the basic physical parameters of wound bundles. By controlling the inlet fluid velocity varying in coil-wound heat exchanger to program and calculate the iterative process. The calculation data is analyzed by comparison of numerical result and the unit three dimensional pipe bundle model was built. Studies show that the introduction of numerical simulation can simplify the pipe winding process and accelerate the calculation and design of overall configuration in coil-wound heat exchanger. This method can be applied to the physical modeling and heat transfer calculation of pipe bundles in coil wound heat exchanger, program to calculate the complex heat transfer changing with velocity and other parameters, and optimize the overall design and calculation of spiral bundles.

The present work examines the effects of temperature and velocity jump conditions on heat transfer, fluid flow, and entropy generation. As the physical model, the axially symmetrical steady flow of a Newtonian ambient fluid over a single rotating disk is chosen. The related nonlinear governing equations for flow and thermal fields are reduced to ordinary differential equations by applying so-called classical approach, which was first introduced by von Karman. Instead of a numerical method, a recently developed popular semi numerical-analytical technique; differential transform method is employed to solve the reduced governing equations under the assumptions of velocity and thermal jump conditions on the disk surface. The combined effects of the velocity slip and temperature jump on the thermal and flow fields are investigated in great detail for different values of the nondimensional field parameters. In order to evaluate the efficiency of such rotating fluidic system, the entropy generation equation is derived and nondimensionalized. Additionally, special attention has been given to entropy generation, its characteristic and dependency on various parameters, i.e., group parameter, Kn and Re numbers, etc. It is observed that thermal and velocity jump strongly reduce the magnitude of entropy generation throughout the flow domain. As a result, the efficiency of the related physical system increases. A noticeable objective of this study is to give an open form solution of nonlinear field equations. The reduced recurative form of the governing equations presented gives the reader an opportunity to see the solution in open series form.
