Lean Management builds the basis for efficient production systems for many industrial companies. However, lots of potentials of Lean Management have been lifted and information and communication technologies in the context of digitalization and cyber-physical production systems (CPPS) offer new possibilities to enhance the performance of companies. Even though surveys indicate that companies recognize these potentials, especially small and medium-sized companies still face challenges in selection and implementation of suitable solutions. Thus, the research project GaProSys 4.0 aims at supporting companies with a systematic approach to combine existing structures of Lean Management with potentials of digitalization in development of a new set of methods to enhance production systems. This paper presents the approach of the research project to develop a structured set of methods and provides an example to illustrate the potentials.

The topic of coordination arises whenever various tasks or resources must be employed together to produce desirable outcomes. Whereas the complexity of tasks and interactions needed to produce results increase coordination needs, advances in information and communication technologies (ICT) dramatically improve its possibilities. Vertically and horizontally integrated Industry 4.0 manufacturing systems, using ICT to interact with and expand the capabilities of the physical systems, both demand enhanced coordination within and between organizations, and are themselves designed to foster coordination, making coordination in the age of Industry 4.0 a particularly timely and challenging research topic. The paper contributes to the emerging stream of literature on coordination in the age of Industry 4.0 by analyzing the characteristics of blockchain as a coordination mechanism and its application to the hybrid cyber-physical production systems.

It is proposed to analyze the scope and limitations that Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) offer as collaboration mediators; and enhancers of innovative experiences in non-formal education spaces. To this end, it is proposed to implement a methodology mediated by ICTs to promote and achieve greater use of the guided visits to the interactive science and technology centers. The work contemplates, firstly, carrying out a bibliographic inquiry and background review of interactive science and technology centers in different Ibero-American countries and secondly, it is proposed to design a methodology to enhance collaboration mediated by technologies in the framework of visits to centers interactives and then apply this methodology to a particular case study to measure its impact. The experience will take place at the Open Science and Technology Interactive Center (CICyT) of the National University of Lanús and proposes, through a specific intervention, comparatively analyzing 3 types of guided visits: a) traditional in-person visit format, b) visit face-to-face with instance of collaboration activities without the use of technology, c) interaction mediated by ICTs prior to the visit, face-to-face visit with use of ICTs, and instance of interaction mediated by ICTs after the visit, which will then be contrasted with the antecedents and theoretical studies found in the bibliography.

This chapter introduces banking technology as a confluence of several disparate disciplines such as Finance (including risk management), Information technology, Computer Science, Communication technology and marketing science. It presents the evolution of banking, the tremendous influence of information and communication technologies on banking and its products, the quintessential role played by computer science in fulfilling banks’ marketing objective of servicing customers better at a less cost and thereby reap more profits. It also highlights the use of advanced statistics and computer science to measure, mitigate and manage various risks associated with banks’ business with its customers and other banks. The growing influence of customer relationship management and data mining in tackling various marketing related problems and fraud detection problems in banking industry is well documented. The chapter concludes by saying that the banking technology discipline is all set for rapid growth in future.

In globalized times the integration of information and communication technologies in companies and their supply chains is required, but there is uncertainty regarding the true impact that these have on efficiency indices or benefits gained in the productive system. This article reports a structural equation model that contains ten hypotheses with five latent variables associated with the integration of information and communication technology in production systems such as information exchange, operations management, production control, distribution activities, and operational benefits obtained. The paper aims to quantify the relationships among those variables, facilitating managers to make decisions in information and communication technologies (ICT) implementation. The model is validated with information from 80 responses to a questionnaire applied to manufacturing companies, and partial least-squares technique is used to statistically validate the hypotheses; the results indicate that the implementation of information technologies facilitates the exchange of information, operations management and production control. This means that ICT integration can create visibility for a supply chain in a material’s flow among partners, facilitate operations management in production lines and distribution activities, and these benefits are ultimately transformed into operational benefits that managers measure as flexibility, low cost and short cycles times with customers.

ABSTRACTThis article presents the results obtained and conclusions reached through the implementation of a strategy of teaching and learning, designed for the development of the laboratory activities for a first programming course. The same is based on the application of the collaborative work using a development environment, which combines some functionality provided by the learning management system, Moodle and a module that integrates the same, called Virtual Programming Lab (VPL). Future professionals in computer science by its specificity labor, will include and use the so-called information and communication technologies (ICT). Likewise, in the professional practice, the activity of software development, requires teamwork and collaboration. By all this, it is necessary to consider these requirements in the training of students of computer science, from the beginning of their training.RESUMENEn este artículo se presentan los resultados obtenidos y conclusiones alcanzadas a través de la implementación de una estrategia de enseñanza y aprendizaje, diseñada para el desarrollo de las actividades de laboratorio de un primer curso de programación. La misma se basa en la aplicación del trabajo colaborativo usando un entorno de desarrollo, que combina algunas funcionalidades provistas por el entorno Moodle y un módulo que se integra al mismo, llamado Virtual Program-ming Lab (VPL). Los futuros profesionales de Sistemas, por su especificidad laboral, incluirán y utilizarán las denominadas tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC). In considering women’s relationship to information and communication technologies (ICTs), it is important to look at the historically embedded gender inequalities that exist in the areas of science and technology as well as examining the creative and entrepreneurial uses of ICTs in which women around the world are engaged. The picture of globalization and ICTs and women’s lives is highly complex, reflecting structural problems but also new dynamics that have contributed to empowering women and global women’s movements.
