Abstract We have developed a process diagnostics system for photovoltaic energy modules based on standard methods and practices already developed for LSI and MEMS technologies. This paper provides a description of methods used to ensure the conformation of solar cell modules to the rigors of high-quality manufacturing necessary for reliable photovoltaic energy production when exposed to long-term environmental use. We have verified the possibility of inspecting each solar cell and the module assembly in detail for several photovoltaic technologies, specifically monocrystalline Si, polycrystalline Si, and CuInxGa1-xSe2 An objective set of criteria for the quality of each module can be provided by this method for use in module selection by consumers. Moreover, the quality of conformance and reliability data can be used as feedback to the manufacturer to minimize the number of defects created during manufacturing process and ameliorate their effects.

The stratospheric airship is a kind of aircraft that completely relies on the cycle of photovoltaic energy systems to achieve long duration flight. The accurate estimation of the operating temperature of solar cell modules on stratospheric airship is extremely important for the design of photovoltaics system (PV system), the output power calculation of PV system, and the calculation of energy balance. However, the related study has been rarely reported. A support vector machine prediction method based on particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO-SVM) was established to predict the operating temperature of solar cell modules on stratospheric airship. The PSO algorithm was used to dynamically optimize the SVM’s parameters between the operating temperature of the solar cell modules and the measured data such as atmospheric pressure, solar radiation intensity, flight speed, and ambient temperature. The operating temperature data of the two sets of solar cell modules measured in the flight test were used to verify the accuracy of the temperature prediction model, and the prediction results were compared with a back propagation neural network (BPNN) method and the simulation results calculated by COMSOL Multiphysics of COMSOL, Inc., Columbus, MA, USA. The results shown that the PSO-SVM model realized the accurate prediction of the operating temperature of solar cell modules on stratospheric airship, which can guide the design of PV system, the output power calculation of PV system, and the calculation of energy balance.

Translated children’s works from English to Chinese have flooded China unprecedentedly since the end of the 19PthP century. However, there is a discrepancy in the translation of Chinese children’s works into the English language. This is maybe because western scholars are still largely ignoring Asian texts for young readers. Therefore, the research aims to fill the gap in the scholarship by studying the translated Bronze and Sunflower, which is a renowned work written by the Chinese first Hans Christian Anderson winner Cao Wenxuan, from the aspect of narrative space. A qualitative approach is adopted to compare the similarities and differences of narrative space between the source text and the target text. The samples will be taken from Cao Wenxuan’s Bronze and Sunflower and its English translation. The textual analysis is illuminated through the narratological framework, which is based on three-layered space: The topographic level, the chronotopic level and the textual level. The study explores how narrative space is constructed in the process of translating Bronze and Sunflower. It is hoped that the findings of the study will show how space is created in a different languagea, and that the translator prefers to change the narrative space rather than keeping the same spatial structure in the target text.

The paper adopts a descriptive case study method to examine the impact of juristic views on the operations of two Malaysian takaful companies. In order to achieve this objective, the annual financial reports of both companies were analysed. Interviews with each company’s finance managers and with a member of the Malaysian Shariah Advisory Council were undertaken for a more in-depth coverage. Also a written correspondence with a senior official of the central bank was accomplished. Similarities and differences between the two companies were identified and it is concluded that the differences are serious enough to warrant interventions from the regulators in the form of mandatory disclosures in the annual reports.

Corporations are under growing pressure from socially responsible investors to consider the environmental and social impacts of their operations. To help highlight corporations that have taken steps to address these issues, a number of sustainability indices have been developed. While there is a growing body of literature that focuses on sustainability indices, little is known on how they are used in practice. The purpose of this project was to explore the use of sustainability indices in corporations. In this project, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America (DJSINA) was used in a case study. The project consisted of three key phases: a content analysis of corporate sustainability reports in North America, a survey with Canadian experts on the DJSINA, and a review of the DJSI website. The project highlights the similarities and differences in the use of the DJSI by Canadian and American corporations. As the first study focusing on the use of the DJSINA, the results will be of interest to practitioners and academics in socially responsible investment and corporate sustainability.

The large scale of production of modern PV manufacturing as well as the cost pressure demand a different approach to cleaning processes in semiconductor and PV applications. The subject of this presentation is, to highlight aspects of similarities and differences. Total added cost/m2of Si are estimated for typical PV manufacturing conditions and compared to semiconductor applications. Typical technical solutions are reviewed. They are compared to the anticipated technical and cost requirements in the near future according to PV roadmaps and cell concepts which are evident today. Starting with typical cleaning processes during the wafering (sawing, cleaning, separation) up to cell processing (texturing, diffusion, coating and plating) the main cleaning processes are presented and their specifics are indicated. Finally recontamination and conditioning in production lines are reviewed.
