The article discusses searching for solutions related to the university education of preschool and early school teachers in a time marked by intense and unpredictable changes. The fluid reality we live in poses an important challenge for those responsible for teacher training, requiring them to prepare teachers to deal with constant changes and remain open to what is yet to come. In a constantly changing reality, it is difficult to predict which competencies teachers will need in the next decades of the 21st century. It is certainly worth the effort to focus on fostering the passion and developing the personalities of future teachers working with children of preschool and early school age. The education process should also take into account the needs and expectations of the new generation of teachers, representing what the literature of the subject describes as “generation Z”. Apart from including theoretical considerations, the article is an attempt to showcase selected solutions developed at the Faculty of Educational Studies of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.

There is a difference between doing something well and doing something good. And there is a difference between failing to do something well, and failing to do something good. In this paper, I assess our contemporary University in the latter sense of failure. While the University can be ineffective, or fail to function well, there is more at stake if the University, as an institution, is in conflict with nature. That is, it is one thing for the University to be ineffective in its means, but here I will pose the question: is the contemporary University sinful? Using Josef Pieper's elucidation of moral failure and John Henry Newman's analysis of the proper ends of University education, I defend the thesis that because the aim of our contemporary University seems to come in conflict with the goal of nature as a whole, it may be understood as sinful.

The main aim of the article is to present the results of preliminary qualitative research on the ways in which teachers of grades 1–3 of primary school understand cognitive partnership and the meanings they assign to it in their own school practice. The method of individual open-ended interview was used in the research. On the basis of the obtained research results, it can be concluded that, in the opinion of the respondents, cognitive partnership is possible and even necessary in early school education. The teachers’ declarations show that cognitive partnership is present in their educational activities, but it is impossible to fully implement it due to the cognitive developmental features of children at the early school age. The vast majority of the respondents, when explaining the discussed concept, focused in their statements primarily on the intellectual aspect of cognitive partnership, but the importance of social relations between the teacher and the student/students in the process of gaining knowledge was emphasized less frequently. When explaining the concept of cognitive partnership, the surveyed teachers most often focused unilaterally either on the teacher’s actions or on the child’s activities that indicate cognitive partnership. The understanding of the discussed concept as a system of relations between the subjects of education, who co-decide about the course and effects of the education process, occurred much less frequently. The obtained results are a contribution to conducting further in-depth research, especially with regard to the place and manner of implementing the idea of cognitive partnership in the practice of early school education.

The new generation Z (born at the beginning of the 21st century) has not been sufficiently studied, has a certain difference from the previous generations Y and X. Basing on the specifics of the modern young people as a generation of virtual communication, the authors suggest that they should have their specific interest in physical education and sports. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to study the attitude of generation Z to physical culture and sports. According to the conducted sociological survey, there have been identified the moments that contribute to the formation of an interest in physical education activities at the representatives of generation Z. Entering and studying at the university involves the process of active adaptation of the individual to changing conditions of reality and emotional and stressful situations. In this regard, the role of physical education and training in the context of social adaptation is extremely important, since in the process of doing physical exercises, the issues of self-realization of generation Z can be successfully solved. To identify the attitude of representatives of generation Z to physical culture and sports, the authors conducted a sociological survey, which revealed an undeniable positive attitude of students to physical exercise, but under conditions of greater diversity, sufficient availability of necessary equipment and individual approach. Since rapidly changing economic conditions require the training of competitive specialists, university physical education teachers need to rethink the goals and objectives of physical education, creating the prerequisites for the introduction of new ways to develop interest in physical culture and sports.

In recent years, providing higher education in the form of work-based learning has become more important in the higher education (HE) policy and practice almost in all EU countries. Work-based learning (WBL) in HE should support the development of competences of self-guided learners and adjust the university education better to the needs of the workplace. The study is based on two pilot projects of WBL in HE in Estonia: Tourism and Restaurant Management professional HE programme and the master’s programme in Business Information Technology. The model of integrative pedagogy, based on the social-constructivist learning theory, is taken as a theoretical foundation for the study. A qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews with the target groups. The data analysis used a horizontal analysis to find cross-cutting themes and identify patterns of actions and connections. It appears, that the challenge for HE is to create better cooperation among stakeholders; the challenge for workplaces is connected with better involvement of students; the challenge for students is to take more initiative and responsibility in communication with workplaces.
