This article investigates the support e-learning can provide for the management and marking of assignments. The work is contextualised in the importance of assessment with assignments in tertiary education, in the theories about high quality marking of assignments, and the practical experiences of academics at tertiary institutions. The tasks that need to be carried out as part of assignment management and marking are detailed. A set of requirements is derived based on the education literature and on practical needs established in interviews with academics. Possible architectures for an e-learning system implementing these requirements are suggested and arguments are provided towards using an architecture that combines existing learning management system functionality for assignments with a specialised assignment management and marking application. A specific implementation based on Moodleand Lightwork is introduced. The article concludes with thoughts on the cognitive fit of learning management systems for assignment marking tasks and their core roles in supporting teaching and learning.

E-Learning is one of the solutions in current learning system. Implementation of electronic-based learning, teaching and learning process can be more varied at the same time can eliminate the saturation of learners. Implementation of E-Learning or well known as Learning Management System at Slamet Riyadi University Surakarta, so far not running maximally. Among the most fundamental features available are not in accordance with the standards of application of E-Learning. The solution for this problem is better to design a new system. The development model used is to adopt the Borg and Gall model with the outline of the prototype application. In developing this prototype, data collection needs of users is done to relevant stakeholders, namely Information Technology Education courses, students and lecturers as end users as well as experts in the field of IT and curriculum. The results showed, based on the questionnaire to end users can be concluded that the prototype offered can be accepted among the end users and experts. This is shown from the statistical results of the analysis of the influence between variables that are formulated. Hypothesis of influence between variables most or dominant produce prototype acceptable.

Aim/Purpose: This study proposes a theoretical framework that amalgamates Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) variables with usability metrics to investigate the impact on students’ intention and use of the Learning Management System (LMS) in Saudi higher education. Background: There is a dearth of academic research on Saudi higher education to examine the effects of usability factors on students use of LMSs, so significant issues have not yet been examined. Methodology: Based on survey data from 605 respondents, the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique was employed to assess the model. Contribution: The findings of the study may help colleges and universities to gain insights into the best way to promote e-learning system perceived usefulness and acceptance among students. Findings: The results confirmed that the UTAUT parameters are valid and robust in the context of LMS in Saudi Arabia. The dimension of social influence emerged to significantly influence the students’ intention and usage behaviour. The performance expectancy was affected by information quality and the system interactivity whereas the effort expectancy was influenced by system navigation, system learnability, and instructional assessment. The usability feature of interactivity was also demonstrated to influence students’ willingness to use the system. Recommendations for Practitioners: University policymakers are expected to benefit from this research for e-learning system acceptance in an academic setting and eliminate any impediments to its implementation. University students will be able to identify the factors and motivations driving their adoption of the system. In particular, usability, social, and organisational factors that affect their use of an e-learning system would be better understood. Recommendation for Researchers: The study should aid the research community in technology acceptance and usability studies to determine the students’ perceptions and experiences towards e-learning usability, social, and organisational factors that influence their acceptance, specifically in a Saudi context where students have unique psychological and social characteristics. Administrators and designers could also better understand areas of improvement for usability issues and develop design solutions based on the findings of this study. Impact on Society: The suggestions have been offered in order to accelerate and increase the use of e-learning services in Saudi higher education. System designers and administrators should have a better insight into the user interface design, considering system-independent metrics that could enhance user acceptance of e-learning systems. Future Research: The study focused on the students’ perspective, a natural progression of this work is to involve other e-learning stakeholders (teachers and administrators). This could enrich the research by providing a better understanding of undisclosed issues, offering different views about the implementation and use of an e-learning system in Saudi Arabia.

An online learning system (e-learning) at private tertiary institutions is built to facilitate lecturers and students in the teaching and learning process. Through the e-learning learning information system students can download course material, send assignments, work on daily and semester exam questions, find out the value of assignments and examinations. Bumigora University has been implementing e-learning since 2017. Thus to determine the usefulness and feasibility of applying the application must be evaluated in accordance with the vision and mission of the institution. In this study the evaluation of the application of e-learning will use the COBIT 4.1 framework with the domain monitoring evaluation. The results of this study determine the level of maturity of the application of e-learning applications today (as-is) and the expected maturity (to-be).

Present-day development of information technologies is making deeper and deeper incursions into all spheres of human activity, both social and economic. It is only natural that they greatly influence the educational industry, changing the approaches, methods and forms of education. Currently e-learning and distance technologies are being actively introduced into both academic and corporate education, as complementary to traditional forms. The efforts of teachers are aimed at finding effective models of blended learning. All this determines the relevance of the present study. The abstracted article is aimed at developing frameworks of a distance learning model based on the use of modern learning management systems. To obtain thorough and reliable results the authors make use of two research approaches: acmeological and competence-based. They review the features, the scope and use of the existing LMS platforms and work out tools for the development of e-learning system. In addition, they assess the compliance of e-learning tools with the preferences of X, Y and Z generation users. The outcome of the research is the development of a universal competency that can be applied to the study of modern methods and approaches with reference to both academic teaching and learning, and to corporate training. It is quite apparent that pros and cons of the learning management system and its possibilities should be carefully studied and thoughtfully used. The effective e-learning requires constant monitoring of equipment, proper work of host servers and considering user-friendliness of the platforms. This is related to the fact that public educational organizations, including schools, colleges and universities, especially in low developed countries, prefer traditional teaching methods and are slowly moving to innovative models. The research findings can be viewed as a step forward in creating user-friendly and flexible e-learning platforms, suitable for separate users, institutions and businesses. They can be applied for further assessment of existing learning models, especially for the younger generation, and for research and development of new strategies and methods of using learning management systems and platforms.

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Africa face the challenge of responding to the expanding demand for tertiary education while maintaining or enhancing the quality of their course offerings. This has led to some HEIs introducing interactive web technologies to support their distance teaching and learning practices. However, academic staff at these institutions may struggle to provide sufficient support to online learners in part due to inadequate staff capacity in terms of familiarity with and use of online communication tools. This paper reports the practical experiences of building academic staff capacity within three southern Africa institutions, in order to initiate skills development and introduce foundational concepts in support of engaging online learners. The design of the course material is discussed and the experiences of the facilitators and participants are examined.
