This paper discusses the factors that determine the customisation of e-learning programmes. The process of customisation depends on many parameters, such as the objectives of the programme, the quantity and order of the learning materials, the personality and abilities of the student, and the resources within the learning system. Curriculum developers are able to put together these parameters in varying combinations, reflecting differing educational strategies. Because of this possibility it has become important to study how one can determine an appropriate strategy or learning path for any individual student. This is becoming particularly relevant because curriculum developers have to consider large numbers of already developed learning courses, modules, and technologies. One of the approaches to addressing this problem is the classification, or taxonomy, of customisation parameters. This paper reviews published material from highly-rated journals dealing with customisation of learning. As a result of this review the groups of customisation parameters are identified and a generalised scheme of grouped parameters, and their sequence, corresponding to the inner logic of the learning process are developed. This taxonomy allows the educational activities to be arranged so that learners can achieve their learning goals more efficiently.

Support for various aspects of personalization and adaptation of the reviewed tools is not at the desired level of abstraction - very often depends on the specific way in which it is assumed that a learning object will be combined, to build a learning path for going through an e-course, or to achieve learning goals. This document describes an innovative and more abstract model and related software system for adaptive e-learning. A software prototype for adaptive teaching of the disciplines "Mobile Applications" and "Programming applications for mobile devices", taught at Plovdiv University "Paisii Hilendarski” is presented. Objectives are discussed, based on an extensive overview in the field of adaptive e-learning systems and the software implementation of the e-learning tool is presented. Results of specific tests with study activities will be presented in future scientific publications.

This article describes how e-learning recommender systems nowadays have applied different kinds of techniques to recommend personalized learning content for users based on their preference, goals, interests and background information. However, the cold-start problem which exists in traditional recommendation algorithms are still left over in e-learning systems and a few of them have seriously affected the learning goals of users. Thus, an intelligent e-learning system have been developed which can recommend professional and targeted courses according to their career goals. First, an enhanced collaborative filtering (CF) approach is proposed considering users' career goals and background information. Then, the relevance between career goals and courses are calculated to alleviate the cold-start problem and recommend specialized courses for users. Finally, a PrefixSpan algorithm is combined with the above methods to generate a personalized learning path step by step. Some experiments are carried out with real users of different professions to test the performance of the hybrid algorithm.

The pandemic of Covid-19 caused the Indonesian government to issue regulations about the implementation of e-learning as a substitute for face-to-face learning. Zoom Cloud Meeting application is one of the e-learning media used in order to achieve students understanding in the midst of pandemic. The research was conducted through a qualitative approach with a case study in one of the department which has the largest number of students at Universitas Komputer Indonesia. Through the purposive technique, six research informants were obtained, consisting of quality assurance coordinator, lecturers and students involved in the learning process using Zoom Cloud Meeting application. Results showed that planning contained an overview of learning activities to be held with Zoom Cloud Meeting media as well as preparations made by lecturers and students. Implementation is the use of Zoom Cloud Meeting application as the media of e-learning to deliver learning materials, in the same way as face-to-face learning, consisting of lectures and discussions. Evaluation is related to technical barriers and the development of learning materials that should be adjusted to e-learning method through Zoom Cloud Meeting application. Researchers concluded, the use of Zoom Cloud Meeting application as the media of e-learning in general has successfully achieving students understanding in the midst of pandemic through various features that support the implementation of e-learning, this happens after all parties involved can adapt to the e-learning system. For that, it is necessary to conduct further research about the impact of e-learning in the improvement the learning quality of students. This research was conducted as part of e-learning development, although it cannot completely replace face-to-face learning but at least supports the learning process by utilizing technological advances so that students are more active and independent, because the learning process is no longer centered on lecturers.

Lately, user quality of experience (QoE) during their interaction with a system is a significant factor in the assessment of most systems. However, user QoE is dependent not only on the content served to the users, but also on the performance of the service provided. This chapter describes a novel QoE layer that extends the features of classic adaptive e-learning systems in order to consider delivery performance in the adaptation process and help in providing good user perceived QoE during the learning process. An experimental study compared a classic adaptive e-learning system with one enhanced with the proposed QoE layer. The result analysis compares learner outcome, learning performance, visual quality and usability of the two systems and shows how the QoE layer brings significant benefits to user satisfaction improving the overall learning process.

Existing virtual learning environments (VLEs) in educational institutions are not designed with the expectation that students with disabilities will use them. Consequently, retrieving relevant information by some students with disabilities is a challenging task. The focus of this study was to propose the design of VLEs to incorporate ontologies that facilitate information retrieval by students with disabilities in their learning, thus serving as a semantic web-based assistive technology in education. An Ontology-Driven Disability-Aware Personalised E-Learning System (ONTODAPS) was designed and then used to recommend specific learning materials to learners based on their learning goal and disability type. Preliminary results of the evaluation of ONTODAPS, by 30 students with disabilities, indicate that 70% of the participants found ONTODAPS to offer a better personalisation, better access to learning materials (68%) and is easier to use (63%) in retrieving learning materials than Sakai. Thus ONTODAPS serves as an assistive tool in their education through retrieval of relevant learning materials in a suitable format which is compatible with their disability.

In the current study of learning process that show learners will take a different way and use different types of learning resources in order to learning better. Any many researchers also agree that learning materials must be able to meet the various learning styles of learners. Therefore, let learners can effective to improve their learning, for different learning styles of learners should be given different types of learning materials. In this paper the authors propose a learner's learning style-based adaptive learning system architecture that is designed to help learners advance their on-line learning along an adaptive learning path. The investigation emphasizes the relationship of learning content to the learning style of each participant in adaptive learning. An adaptive learning rule was developed to identify how learners of different learning styles may associate those contents which have the higher probability of being useful to form an optimal learning path. In this adaptive learning system architecture, it will according to different learning styles given different types of learning materials and will according to learner's profile to adjust learner's learning style for providing suitable learning materials.

This article examines the factors of e-learners' perceptions of service quality in terms of the physical appearance of the learning management system, students' assurance of personnel's level of knowledge, and the customized attention to students' needs. The authors use a survey to measure the five dimensions of the SERVQUAL scale, adapted to the e-learning context. A total of 325 responses were obtained. To validate their scale, the authors performed exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. They found that the most important determining factors for e-learning are: ergonomics, corresponding to the attractiveness of the e-learning system; assurance, corresponding to instructors' ability to satisfy students' needs; and empathy, corresponding to the attention given to each individual student. The authors also found that in the context of e-learning, the relative importance of the dimensions of perceived quality is different from what is typically observed in more traditional services. Their findings enable educational institutions to improve their understanding of the expectations and perceptions of e-learners.
