scholarly journals Adaptation of a Mathematical Model of Generalized Heat Exchange in Furnaces

Consideration of the scheme of flows of combustion products in furnaces and flow chambers of combus-tion within the framework of the heat transfer paradigm made it possible to determine the ratio of the genera-lized mechanisms of heat transfer – convection and radiation. The transition from uniform distribution of gas flow velocity to uneven distribution in furnaces with a geometrically peculiar fence has been implemented. This made it possible to take into account the use of recirculation gases, dual-light shades, changes in the shape and size of the cross-section of the furnace, and installation of shade surfaces in a furnace. The condi-tions for the correctness of the mathematical model are considered, and the eigenvalues of the boundary value problem under conditions of an asymmetric temperature field and the function of the gas temperature changing along the height of the furnace are obtained. A comparative analysis of the nature of the change in gas temperature with height according to the proposed model with the calculation for a steam boiler with a capacity of 950 t/h according to the standard method showed a satisfactory agreement of the calculated data with an accuracy of +4.87 %.

This paper discusses the mathematical model of powder material particles heating in the gas flow when applying plasma gas and thermal coatings. It has been assumed that while moving in the plasma, the particle is heated by convective heat transfer and radiative heat transfer. To ensure accuracy and validity of calculation, two characteristic regions have been outlined: Core, where the temperature, density, and viscosity of plasma, as well as the other parameters are assumed as constant; and the region from the core to the coated surface (substrate), where these parameters are the functions of the plasma flow coordinates. One of the assumptions is that the shape of the particles is near-spherical, and the thermal flow’s action to the particles’ surface is uniform. Special attention has been paid to correct selection of criteria , which allowed to simplify the solution and reduce it to the ordinary first-order differential equation derived from the particle heat balance equation.

The mathematical model of unsteady one-dimensional gas to particles heat transfer for non-isothermal fluidized bed with periodic heating of solid particles has been described. The method of numerical solution of governing differential equations, the algorithm and the computer program, have been presented. By using mathematical model and computer program, the temperature profiles for interstitial gas, gas in bubbles, and solid particles along the height of fluidized bed in function of time, have been determined. The results obtained on the basis of prediction method are compared to the experimental results of the authors; the satisfactory agreement has been found for interstitial gas temperature and solid particle temperature. On the basis of this comparison, the mathematical model has been verified.

The paper presents the system of predicting the indicators of accreditation of technical universities based on J. Forrester mechanism of system dynamics. According to analysis of cause-and-effect relationships between selected variables of the system (indicators of accreditation of the university) there was built the oriented graph. The complex of mathematical models developed to control the quality of training engineers in Russian higher educational institutions is based on this graph. The article presents an algorithm for constructing a model using one of the simulated variables as an example. The model is a system of non-linear differential equations, the modelling characteristics of the educational process being determined according to the solution of this system. The proposed algorithm for calculating these indicators is based on the system dynamics model and the regression model. The mathematical model is constructed on the basis of the model of system dynamics, which is further tested for compliance with real data using the regression model. The regression model is built on the available statistical data accumulated during the period of the university's work. The proposed approach is aimed at solving complex problems of managing the educational process in universities. The structure of the proposed model repeats the structure of cause-effect relationships in the system, and also provides the person responsible for managing quality control with the ability to quickly and adequately assess the performance of the system.

Anchor dragging is a major threat to the structural integrity of submarine pipelines. A mathematical model in which the mechanical model of chain and the bearing model of anchor were coupled together. Based on the associated flow rule, an incremental procedure was proposed to solve the spatial state of anchor until it reaches the ultimate embedding depth. With an indirect measurement method for the anchor trajectory, a model test system was established. The mathematical model was validated against some model tests, and the effects of two parameters were studied. It was found that both the ultimate embedding depth of a dragging anchor and the distance it takes to reach the ultimate depth increase with the shank-fluke pivot angle, but decrease as the undrained shear strength of clay increases. The proposed model is supposed to be useful for the embedding depth calculation and guiding the design of the pipeline burial depth.

A standard called MPEG Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG DASH) ensures the interoperability between different streaming services and the highest possible video quality in changing network conditions. The solutions described in the available literature that focus on video segmentation are mostly proprietary, use a high amount of computational power, lack the methodology, model notation, information needed for reproduction, or do not consider the spatial and temporal activity of video sequences. This paper presents a new model for selecting optimal parameters and number of representations for video encoding and segmentation, based on a measure of the spatial and temporal activity of the video content. The model was developed for the H.264 encoder, using Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) objective metrics as well as Spatial Information (SI) and Temporal Information (TI) as measures of video spatial and temporal activity. The methodology that we used to develop the mathematical model is also presented in detail so that it can be applied to adapt the mathematical model to another type of an encoder or a set of encoding parameters. The efficiency of the segmentation made by the proposed model was tested using the Basic Adaptation algorithm (BAA) and Segment Aware Rate Adaptation (SARA) algorithm as well as two different network scenarios. In comparison to the segmentation available in the relevant literature, the segmentation based on the proposed model obtains better SSIM values in 92% of cases and subjective testing showed that it achieves better results in 83.3% of cases.

Items supplies planning of a logistic system is one of the major issue in operations research. In this article the aim is to determine how much of each item per month from each supplier logistics system requirements must be provided. To do this, a novel multi objective mixed integer programming mathematical model is offered for the first time. Since in logistics system, delivery on time is very important, the first objective is minimization of time in delivery on time costs (including lack and maintenance costs) and the cost of purchasing logistics system. The second objective function is minimization of the transportation supplier costs. Solving the mathematical model shows how to use the Multiple Objective Decision Making (MODM) can provide the ensuring policy and transportation logistics needed items. This model is solved with CPLEX and computational results show the effectiveness of the proposed model.

This paper presents the identification of thermal and mechanical parameters of shape memory alloys by using the heat transfer equation and a constitutive model. The identified parameters are then used to describe the mathematical model of a fiber-elastomer composite embedded with shape memory alloys. To verify the validity of the obtained equations, numerical simulations of the SMA temperature and composite bending are carried out and compared with the experimental results.

The condensing unit is one of the most important elements of the steam turbine of a combined heat and power plant. Defects in elements of the condensing unit lead to disturbances in the steam turbine operation, its failures and breakdowns, as well as efficiency losses of the plant. Therefore, the operating personnel need to know the cause of the malfunction and to correct it immediately. There are no diagnostic models of condensers in the Republic of Kazakhstan at the moment. In this regard, a mathematical model of a condenser based on the methodology of Kaluga Turbine Plant (KTP) has been developed. The mathematical model makes it possible to change the input parameters, plot dependency diagrams, and calculate the plant efficiency indicators. The mathematical model of the condenser can be used to research ways for the improvement of the condensing unit efficiency, for diagnostic purposes of the equipment condition, for the energy audit conduction of the plant, and in the training when performing virtual laboratory research. Using static data processing by linear regression method we obtain that the KTP methodology of condenser calculation is fair at cooling water temperature from 20 °C to 24 °C, but at cooling water temperature from 20 °C to 28 °C, the methodology of JSC "All-Russia Thermal Engineering Institute" (JSC "VTI") is used. One of the ways to increase the condenser efficiency has been proposed. It is the heat transfer augmentation with riffling annular grooves on tubes. This method increases the heat transfer coefficient by 2%, reduces the water subcooling of the heating steam by 0.9 °C, and decreases the cooling area by 2%.
