Supply chain disruption is characterized by a significant decrease in the production or delivery of a supply chain, including events like fire, system downsizing, natural disasters and quality issues, unexpected surge incapacity, and pandemic disease COVID-19. This will lead to lower productivity, higher prices, increased consumer frustration, etc. Logistics activities are suspended due to COVID-19 by closing the borders between countries. For that reason, we will specify our research on the impact of this disease on the Supply Chain Management and to show up the important issues and how the digital solution like the Physical Internet could solve these disruptions. The Physical Internet is still an emerging phenomenon in which it is intended to replace the current logistics model by encompassing new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, the Internet of things, and others. This article aims to compose conceptual research to describe Supply Chain Management problems during the COVID-19 pandemic and to represent the physical internet as a solution for this disruption based on various journal articles, papers, websites, and managers' experiences. Further, this study helps to increase the understanding of scholars and practitioners on how the novel PI paradigm can be a solution to COVID-19-induced supply chain disruptions. Furthermore, the physical internet and other modern technologies in the business world are absolutely necessary and recommended, as these current issues now require quick decisions and up-to-date knowledge.

PurposeThe impact of information technology (IT) on the agility of supply chain management (SCM) systems is very noticeable in the business world nowadays. Competition and constant changes, including product/technological innovations, decreasing product lifestyles and product proliferation, create pressure that affects the business environment. Organizations are required for answering the changes in the market to gain a competitive advantage and business success. The organizations are able to answer to unexpected market changes through supply chain market, and these changes are converted to business opportunities. Using IT to achieve the agility of SCM is one of the important factors to help the organizations. Therefore, the adoption of IT and its efficient implementation can improve the cooperation between supply chain agility through the rapid transfer, the distribution of accurate information and the use of information. This paper aims to investigate the impact of IT on the agility of SCM.Design/methodology/approachA total of 120 employees of the Golasal firm are involved in collecting data using a questionnaire. Measurements were performed in all questionnaires using a five-point Likert scale. The causal model is evaluated by structural equationmodeling technique, which is used to examine the reliability and validity of the model.FindingsThe results have shown that IT has positive influences on the agility of SCM systems. In addition, the obtained results have shown that four variables, namely, IT skills and knowledge, IT-based systems integration, IT infrastructure and design of global position system and geographic information systems, affect the agility of SCM systems.Originality/valueIn this paper, the agility of SCM systems is pointed out and the approach to resolve the problem is applied into a practical example. The presented model provides a complete framework to examine the impact of IT on the agility of SCM systems.

Be it agriculture, manufacturing or production of energy, all are a part of supply and demand mechanics controlling freights and container ships, bringing the world’s industry together leading to globalization of economy. The world’s food, products were transported by the shipping industry with supply chain as its core. 94% of the Fortune 500 companies are seeing covid 19 supply chain disruptions as per 2020 Forbes report. Supply chains of today are very intricate and interconnected; disruption at one part can spread in an unpredicted manner. This paper helps the reader analyze various supply chain models and the impact of disruptions caused by the pandemic. At first, it discusses supply chain management and its risks due to pandemics. It then, discusses a case study of Unilever restructuring its supply chain system. The paper also suggests a methodology for supply chain management during pandemic. The outcomes and insights of this paper can be used by decision makers for risk management in supply chains and leads a step for future research.

The aim of this article is to analyze the impact of new technologies on supply chain management in the Armed Forces. The supply chain is not limited to the operations related to the physical movement of goods, but also includes the management of relations with suppliers and customers. However, the supply chain management, through the integration and coordination of both information and goods flow, is a main factor of the well-developed customer service. The changes in military logistics imposed the necessity of implementation of the modern information technologies in the Polish Armed Forces. The Polish Army has adopted the Integrated Multi-level Information System of the Ministry of Defense (ZWSI RON). The article describes various technologies used in supply chain management including information, communication and automatic identification technologies. The author emphasizes that modern technologies are essential to enhance supply chain competitiveness and performance by improving the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the logistic system. Moreover, implementing of various innovative technologies shortens the time required for the fulfillment of tasks as well as reduces their labor consumption.

Purpose: Analytics research is increasingly divided by the domains Analytics is applied to. Literature offers little understanding whether aspects such as success factors, barriers and management of Analytics must be investigated domain-specific, while the execution of Analytics initiatives is similar across domains and similar issues occur. This article investigates characteristics of the execution of Analytics initiatives that are distinct in domains and can guide future research collaboration and focus. The research was conducted on the example of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and the respective domain-specific Analytics subfield of Supply Chain Analytics. The field of Logistics and Supply Chain Management has been recognized as early adopter of Analytics but has retracted to a midfield position comparing different domains.Design/methodology/approach: This research uses Grounded Theory based on 12 semi-structured Interviews creating a map of domain characteristics based of the paradigm scheme of Strauss and Corbin.Findings: A total of 34 characteristics of Analytics initiatives that distinguish domains in the execution of initiatives were identified, which are mapped and explained. As a blueprint for further research, the domain-specifics of Logistics and Supply Chain Management are presented and discussed.Originality/value: The results of this research stimulates cross domain research on Analytics issues and prompt research on the identified characteristics with broader understanding of the impact on Analytics initiatives. The also describe the status-quo of Analytics. Further, results help managers control the environment of initiatives and design more successful initiatives.

Zinn et al. (2018) and Esper et al. (2020) call for more research on gender diversity in Supply Chain Management, and our study responds to that call. We analyze the career path of 1081 international graduates from a higher degree program in Supply Chain Management from 2000 to 2017 to assess the impact of gender and expatriation choice on hierarchical progression. We explore two variables that may affect graduates’ career paths, namely, their gender and their expatriation choices, and compare their relative importance. Our analysis shows that there were, on average, 33.5% women recruited in the MSc and that this has not significantly changed over the years. It also shows that gender significantly influences the number of years spent at each level in the career hierarchy and the level reached. Regarding expatriation choice, this variable has some significant impacts on career progression. Finally, statistics indicate that gender has a far greater influence on career progression than expatriation choice. Overall, this study proves the difficulties for women in enjoying the same career progression as men in the field of Supply Chain Management.

Different sources of risk factors can occur in sustainable supply chain management due to its complex nature. The telecommunication service firm cannot implement multiple improvement practices altogether to overcome the risk factors with limited resources. The industries should evaluate the relationship between risk factors and explore the determinants of improvement measures. The purpose of the present study is to identify and analyze critical risk factors (CRFs) for enhancing sustainable supply chain management practices in the Indian telecommunication industry using interpretive structural modelling (ISM). Risk factors are identified through a literature survey, and then with the help of experts, nine CRFs are identified using a fuzzy Delphi method (FDM). The relationship among these CRFs has been analyzed using ISM, and the driving and the dependence power of those CRFs are analyzed. Results indicate that both “government policies (laws and regulations)” and “the impact of rapid change in technology” are independent or key factors that affect the sustainability of the telecommunications supply chain. In addition, results provide significant managerial implications, including enhanced sustainability, and the government should build justice, fairness, open laws, certainties, and regulations to prevent risk in the telecommunications industry supply chain; service providers should monitor the rapidly evolving technologies and focus on technical learning and organizational capacity development to overcome the impact of technological changes. The contribution of this study is using a novel approach to establish a hierarchical structural model for an effective understanding of CRFs relationships and to explore decisive risk factors that can help telecom service providers to better plan and design effective improvement strategies to enhance sustainability supply chain management.

This paper presents the impact of applying the supply chain management (SCM) on the agribusiness field to optimize productivity and decreasing cost which will have a direct impact on the net income of the organization. The main two research questions are: is there a significant impact of supply chain management on financial performance? and is there a significant relationship between supply chain management and financial performance as well as responsibility accounting? To answer the research questions, data was collected from financial statements of agribusiness case from Egypt and the survey was conducted. The findings of the study indicated that there is a significant impact of supply chain management on financial performance through enhancing the productivity, decreasing the cost and improving profitability. Moreover, applying the efficient supply chain management can improve the use of responsibility accounting through the efficient usage for the budget of the crop.

The purpose of this research paper was to find the impact of the supply chain on firm performance in Textile firm of Pakistan. Data was collected through questioners in the month of March 2018, Approximately 30 questioners were distributed among the managers of the ten textile organizations in Faisalabad which are expected to have the best knowledge about the supply chain operations and its impact on the performance of the organization, all of them responded positively. It is found that dimensions associated with SCM methods as well as explain the connection amongst SCM methods, aggressive benefit, as well as firm performance. The actual study focuses on the causal associations in between SCM exercise, aggressive benefit as well as firm performance as well as ignores the actual feasible recursive associations.
