This paper investigates theoretical micro-foundations of core competencies in the organization that pursues sustainable competitive advantage. It advocates that there is a lack of literature perspectives which can explain the sources of core competencies of the firm. This research raises questions on: What are the main sources of creation and sustenance of core competencies? What are the abilities which nourish the development of operational and dynamic capabilities? What is the main source of collective knowledge in the organization? This work answers these questions by proposing a dynamic ability-based view of the organization which contributes to explaining the dynamic behavior of the firm in the pursuit of sustainable competitive advantage. Cognition is the core ability which supports individuals, groups, and organizations with intelligence, autonomy, learning, and knowledge management. These concepts form the set of organizational abilities in this research.

Sense of space is a core cognitive ability necessary for imagining future three-dimensional forms, rotating them mentally, as well as for abstract thinking. It is a core ability in craft activities, enabling the maker to ideate and envision their ideas. This autoethnographic narrative inquiry presents my experience of woodworking whilst a brain tumour impeded my sense of space. The narrative describes my experience of losing and regaining this ability and the actions I took to continue carving anyway. The article’s evocative narrative exemplifies how the core identity of being a carver and the carving process itself function as coping mechanisms in the face of terminal cancer. The article’s main purpose is to generate knowledge on the role of spatial skills in carving and their elusive nature. Theoretically positioned in the field of embodied cognition, the article explains how our sense of space develops in interaction with materials and our surroundings. It also suggests how future education can be changed by purposefully incorporating targeted craft practices to better support the development of a sense of space.

Major changes in the financial profession warrant assessment of current practices and strategic planning for the future education of such professionals.  This article discusses the core competencies, obtained from numerous studies, of accounting and finance professionals.  After common core competencies are identified for the both accounting and finance professions, the need for change in accounting and finance curricula are discussed.  Next, a combined undergraduate curriculum for both the accounting and finance students, which incorporates the common core competencies, is proposed.  Finally, the authors issue a call for further research.

To analysis the characteristics of undergraduate curriculum for networks engineering major, this paper explores the technical features and capacity needs, and divided the professional direction of networks engineering into three basic directions according to the life cycle. The research results show that the construction of professional knowledge should be as the guiding ideology of undergraduate curriculum design. At the end, a specific curriculum has proposed to improve the ability for the student of the network engineering, which is organized by the knowledge relationship among the core courses.

At the founding of the Academy of Geneva, Theodore Beza was appointed rector, and he had to give the inaugural address. Beza’s inaugural address provides a crucial window into the ideas of the founders of the Academy of Geneva. This Academy can rightly be regarded as one of the most influential instruments for the spread of the Reformation of the sixteenth century. Today, the founding and management of the Academy of Geneva serves as a valuable example for a deeper understanding of Christian higher education. Although today’s curriculum, assessment and academic structures will not look like that of the Academy of Geneva, the principles are still as relevant as they were in the sixteenth century. Beza’s short inaugural address provides an important window into the core principles of Christian higher education through the ages. Some of these core principles include creating a disciplined environment where students learn a Christian worldview, create a healthy learning culture while not losing sight of their duty to help reform society.

Pedagogical revisions to the undergraduate Haub School of Business curriculum at Saint Joseph's University employing the SAP R/3 system encompass the core accounting courses traversing the sophomore and junior years.  The entire accounting curriculum was overhauled in order to integrate SAP R/3.  Each course progressively builds upon and expands the knowledge base in the prior course(s).  Substantive pedagogical modifications have been integrated into the material delivered and methodologies utilized in selected sections of the required sophomore and junior accounting courses.  SAP supported material, created and modified by a student team, is delivered in the classroom using a team-oriented format within a business case context.  It is envisioned that the SAP material will seamlessly present accounting issues currently in the curriculum, while allowing the students to observe the capabilities of SAP R/3.  This paper discusses the design, implementation, and execution of collaborative supply chain business scenarios using SAP R/3 as the platform.  Its use within an undergraduate curriculum is assessed and evaluated.  Sample scenarios and a demonstration case are included.

ABSTRACT To determine whether our undergraduate curriculum fulfills the pedagogical goals of our department, the authors conducted a semester-long curriculum assessment. This article discusses five main lessons and three lingering questions to demonstrate potential benefits of curriculum assessment and to prompt further disciplinary conversation about how undergraduate teaching should be structured. The overarching lesson, however, is that although student needs may be quite diverse, an emphasis on core aspects of the program can yield better training for all undergraduates.

The goal of professional application-oriented construction is to improve students' practical application ability. Under the background of the integration of industry and education, the core ability of taxation major should be highlighted and cultivated is tax risk control ability. Such management ability is increasingly expected by the society among various abilities possessed by professional graduates. The author combined with the professional construction of the working university, from the content design, progress, training experience, optimization and improvement of professional core competence training to explore beneficial, to provide policy optimization suggestions for the cultivation of tax risk management talents.
