There are limited published studies related to the mechanical properties of bamboo species in the Philippines. In this study, the shear strength properties of some economically viable bamboo species in the Philippines were properly characterized based on 220 shear test results. The rationales of selecting this mechanical property are the following: (1) Shear strength, parallel to the fiber, has the highest variability among the mechanical properties; and (2) Shear is one of the governing forces on joint connections, and such connections are the points of failure on bamboo structures when subjected to extreme loading conditions. ISO 22157-1 (2017) test protocol for shear was used for all tests. The results showed that Bambusa blumeana has the highest average shear strength, followed by Gigantochloa apus, Dendrocalamus asper, Bambusa philippinensis, and Bambusa vulgaris. However, comparative analysis, using One-way ANOVA, showed that shear strength values among these bamboo species have significant differences statistically. A linear regression model is also established to estimate the shear strength of bamboo from the physical properties. Characteristic shear strength is also determined using ISO 12122-1 (2014) for future design reference.

For socked and non-socketed piles in the different mechanical behavior under static and dynamic loads, the paper use ABAQUS to model, simulate the pile , the soil interlayer thickness between the bottom of the pile and bedrock are 2m, 4m under vertical load and Earthquake, cushion cap, pile and pile soil stress situation found non-socketed piles when the soil interlayer thickness within a certain range, the composite pile small subside under dynamic, static loads, the non-socketed piles can better take advantage of the pile soil has a good seismic performance in the earthquake.

This research work aims to study the influence of the fabrics in the wear performance of clothing. For this, an experimental work was developed with two fabric samples having the same weight/m2, one single and another double, and a jacket prototype. Through a comparative analysis of the mechanical properties, very interesting results was obtained in the evaluation and characterization of the two fabrics performance in designing the same jacket, namely the drape and the corresponded aesthetic fabrics behaviours during wear. The structural characteristics and mechanical properties of each fabric were introduced into Marvelous Designer Version 8 software to simulate the virtual draping of fabrics in a skirt. The analysis of the drape profile of each fabric given by the software and the drape of the real fabrics evaluated in laboratory indicates, coherently, that the double fabric falls less than the single, but in a more harmonious way, what evidence the close links between technology and design of fashion products. The oligomer microstructure, reflecting the configuration of the elementary units (cis-1,4-, trans-1,4-, and 1,2-) and their distribution order in the polymer chain, decisively affects the physicochemical and rheological properties of the oligomer. Parameters of microstructure-dependent transitions (glass transition) characterize the oligomer behavior under abnormal low-temperature conditions. We present the results of studying the microstructure of low-molecular rubbers. We determined the content of cis-1,4- and trans-1,4-structural links of poly-divinyl-isoprene-urethane-epoxy oligomer. The structure of polybutadiene HTPB-IV with terminal hydroxyl groups was analyzed using NMR and IR spectroscopy. A comparative analysis of the microstructure of the poly-divinyl-isoprene-urethane-epoxy oligomer and low molecular rubbers with a known content of structural units has been carried out. The obtained results can be used to obtain oligomers with the desired physicochemical and mechanical properties.

Deformational and breakage behaviors of concrete and cement mortar greatly influence various engineering structures, such as dams, river bridges, ports, tunnels, and offshore rig platforms. The mechanical and petrophysical properties are very sensitive to water content and are controlled by the liquid part in pore spaces to a large extent. The objective of this paper is to investigate the water saturation effect on the strength characteristics and deformability of cement mortar under two loading conditions, static and dynamic compression. A set of cement mortar samples was prepared and tested to study the mechanical behavior in dry and saturated states. The first part of the research incorporates the study of static mechanical properties for dry and brine-saturated cement mortar through uniaxial compressive strength tests (UCS). Second, drop-weight impact experiments were carried out to study the dynamic mechanical properties (impact resistance, deformation pattern, and fracture geometry) for dry and saturated cases. The comparative analysis revealed that water saturation caused substantial changes in compressive strength and other mechanical characteristics. Under static loading, water saturation caused a reduction in strength of 36%, and cement mortar tended to behave in a more ductile manner as compared to dry samples. On the contrary, under dynamic loading conditions, water saturation resulted in higher impact resistance and fracture toughness as compared to dry conditions. In addition, fractures could propagate to smaller depths as compared to dry case. The study will help resolve many civil, mining, and petroleum engineering problems where cement structures undergo static as well as dynamic compression, especially in a hydraulic environment where these structures interact with the water frequently. To the best of our knowledge, the effect of water saturation on the dynamic mechanical properties of cement mortar has not been well understood and reported in the literature.

A procedure has been developed for calculating the geometric, kinematic and energy-power parameters of helical rolling, which allows a comparative analysis of the processes carried out in stands of various designs. Based on the results of this analysis, a helical rolling mill was designed and manufactured which allows to roll materials with high deformation resistance at high temperatures. The results of the study of the mechanical characteristics of molybdenum bars and wires made by new technology are presented.
