The work introduces a two-phase method for determination of axial loads in tie-rods. The method described here consists of an experimental activity and an automated numerical calculation. The influence of considering an elastic Winkler-type bed to model the tie-rod constraint inside the wall has been investigated. The algorithm used for calculation involves a solution of a functional minimization problem, where the tensile load and the stiffness of elastic foundation at the edges are used as optimization parameters and the error function, which describes the deviation between the frequencies measured and those calculated using finite element method, is minimized. Qualitative analysis of the results showed a significant reduction of the error compared to models with different boundary conditions. The method showed to be conservative for the strength evaluation of the rods, because the optimal values of tensile loads appeared to be higher than the load in perfect encastre conditions.

In this study, two-phase asymmetric peristaltic Carreau-Yasuda nanofluid flow in a vertical and tapered wavy channel is demonstrated and the mixed heat transfer analysis is considered for it. For the modeling, two-phase method is considered to be able to study the nanoparticles concentration as a separate phase. Also it is assumed that peristaltic waves travel along X-axis at a constant speed, c. Furthermore, constant temperatures and constant nanoparticle concentrations are considered for both, left and right walls. This study aims at an analytical solution of the problem by means of least square method (LSM) using the Maple 15.0 mathematical software. Numerical outcomes will be compared. Finally, the effects of most important parameters (Weissenberg number, Prandtl number, Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter, local temperature and nanoparticle Grashof numbers) on the velocities, temperature and nanoparticles concentration functions are presented. As an important outcome, on the left side of the channel, increasing the Grashof numbers leads to a reduction in velocity profiles, while on the right side, it is the other way around.

Specific gas-liquid interfacial area in flow tubes 70 mm in diameter of the length 725 and 1 450 mm resp. containing various swirl bodies were measured for concurrent upward flow in the ranges of average gas (air) velocities 11 to 35 ms-1 and liquid flow rates 13 to 80 m3 m-2 h-1 using the method of CO2 absorption into NaOH solutions. Two different flow regimes were observed: slug flow swirled annular-mist flow. In the latter case the determination was carried out separately for the film and spray flow components, respectively. The obtained specific areas range between 500 to 20 000 m3 m-2. Correlation parameters are energy dissipation criteria, related to the geometrical reactor volume and to the static liquid volume in the reactor.

The distribution kinetics of 35 2-furylethylene derivatives in two-phase system 1-octanol-water was investigated. The transport rate parameters in direction water-1-octanol (l1) and backwards (l2) are partition coefficient P = l1/l2 dependent according to equations l1 = logP - log(βP + 1) + const., l2 = -log(βP + 1) + const., const. = -5.600, β = 0.261. Importance of this finding for assesment of distribution of compounds under investigation in biosystems and also the suitability of the presented method for determination of partition coefficients are discussed.
