<p>The visual quality of ornamental plants is necessarily linked to an adequate balance of nutrients. Plant height, shape and coloration are qualitative aspects of ornamental species, directly influenced by mineral nutrition, among other environmental aspects. The nutritional requirements of ornamental species are not yet well established, often resulting in inefficient use of chemical and organic fertilizers, without respecting the needs of each species as well as the proper time for application. This leads to the low quality of the final product, as well as high production costs, which justifies the importance of a nutritional knowledge of the species. In addition to plant nutrients, some elements not considered essential, such as silicon, may provide improvements in the quality of certain species, including ornamental plants. In this sense, this paper aims to compile information on the use of nutrients for ornamental species in order to contribute to the knowledge of the principal aspects of plant quality as relates to mineral nutrition.</p>

Curly red chili (Capsicum annum L.) is widely cultivated us-ing inorganic fertilizers which causes high production costs. Chili is valued because of the level of spiciness. The level of spiciness of chili is determined by the level of capsaicin which is affected by nutrients in the growing media. The nutrient of the planting media can be fulfilled by degrading the growing media by microbes in organic fertilizer. One type of organic fertilizer containing degrading microbes is biofertiliz-er. Biofertilizer and biogas sludge is one of the organic fertilizers con-taining microbes and organic materials that are able to support nutri-ent levels of the planting medium. This study aimed to analyze growth parameters include chlorophyll content and measure capsaicin levels in curly red chili. Which given biofertilizer and biogas sludge in vari-ous dosage and determine the optimum dose of the fertilizer. The study was conducted at an agricultural demonstration plot in Wukirsari Vil-lage, Cangkringan, Sleman. The study design used RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design), the data were analyzed by ANOVA (Analysis of Variance followed by Duncan’s Multiple Distance Test (DMRT) at the 95% confidence level. The highest growth parameters and capsa-icin content were obtained on curly red chili plants which were given biogas sludge 36 mL + biofertilizer 10 L / ha. The application of bi-ofertilizer and biogas sludge in various concentrations given has not been able to increase the average total chlorophyll content of curly red chili plants. Thus, it can be concluded that the most appropriate dose of curly red chili is 36 mL biogas sludge + 10 L bio fertilizer/ha

В статье представлены результаты изучения экономической и энергетической эффективности возделывания многолетних трав сенокосного и пастбищного использования. С 2007 по 2012 год проведено изучение продуктивности и экономической эффективности возделывания многолетних трав сенокосного использования в лесостепной зоне, коренное улучшение естественных кормовых угодий с 2011 по 2016 год — в южной лесостепи Западной Сибири. Продуктивность и рентабельность производства многолетних трав сенокосного использования с применением минеральных удобрений в лесостепной зоне наиболее высокими были у люцерны и составили 3,2 т/га корм. ед. и 190% соответственно при затратах 8,8 тыс. руб./га. Выход энергии — 43 ГДж/га, энергетический коэффициент (отношение величины выхода продукции к затраченной энергии) — 8,1. Коренное улучшение лугов с применением минеральных удобрений обеспечило получение 0,8 т/га корм. ед. при затратах 4,1 тыс. руб./га, рентабельность составила 56%. Продуктивность естественных угодий при коренном улучшении с использованием органических удобрений — 0,9 т/га корм. ед., рентабельность — 278% при затратах 1,9 тыс. руб./га. Выход энергии с использованием минеральных удобрений — 9,1 ГДж/га, энергетический коэффициент — 1,9, на фоне органических удобрений — соответственно 10,2 ГДж/га и 3,4. Внесение органических удобрений один раз в 5 лет способствовало существенному снижению затрат при коренном улучшении лугов и значительному повышению рентабельности производства. На основании полученных результатов можно заключить: рентабельность производства многолетних трав достаточно высокая, особенно при использовании органических удобрений. Поэтому в хозяйствах с экстенсивными технологиями многолетние травы должны составлять основу кормопроизводства. This article reports on economic and energy efficiencies of perennial grasses cultivated in pastures and haylands. Experiments on hay production took place in the forest-steppe in 2007–2012. Optimization of natural forage lands was conducted in 2011–2016. Alfalfa had the highest hay productivity and economic efficiency under mineral nutrition yielding 3.2 t ha-1 of feed units. Payback amounted to 190%, production costs — 8.8 thousand rubles ha-1. Energy yield reached 43 GJ ha-1, energy coefficient (yield-to-energy ratio) — 8.1. Mineral fertilizers led to the yield of feed units of 0.8 t ha-1, costs of 4.1 thousand rubles ha-1, and profitability of 56%. Under organic fertilization natural forage lands produced 0.9 t ha-1 of feed units, profitability reached 278% while costs — 1.9 thousand rubles ha-1. On the background of mineral nutrition energy yield amounted to 9.1 GJ ha-1, energy coefficient — 1.9, on the background of organic nutrition — 10.2 GJ ha-1 and 3.4, respectively. Organic fertilization once in 5 years significantly reduced costs and increased profitability. Production of perennial crops resulted in high payback, particularly under the application of organic fertilizers. Therefore, farms applying extensive cultivation practices should widely grow perennial grasses.

Currently, the use of activated carbon (AC) increased significantly for the industrial sector, health, environment and agriculture. However, the commercial price of activated carbon is relatively expensive, especially for micro industries mainly due to high production costs. Additionally, it comes from non-renewable sources with limited availability. This prompted the researchers to study the production of AC from inexpensive precursors and renewable; one of which is made from bamboo. AC production can be done through a pyrolysis process followed by physical or chemical activation. Differences in raw materials and activation methods used can affect the characteristics and quality of activated carbon produced. This paper reviews the development and application of bamboo activated carbons in the life sectors and their potency for use as an adsorbent material for the absorbed natural gas (ANG).

Enhancing the vase life of cut foliages is one of the prime goals of floriculturist and it is very interesting and important aspect of floriculture.The efforts were made to find out best waxing treatment for enhancing the vase life along with excellent quality maintenance for few cut foliage species .The objective was to evaluate optimum percent wax solution for improving post harvest life and quality of ornamental plants. Different wax emulsion treatments (0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 %) showed significant results in both quantitative and qualitative attributes of ornamental species. In Asparagus densiflorus ‘Sprengeri’ and Eucalyptus teritecornis,0.75% wax emulsion concentration recorded minimum foliage weight (5.62, 20.49 g) and minimum water uptake (5.60, 32.73 ml) respectively on 3rd day, while maximum foliage weight (0.90, 6.84 g) and maximum water uptake (1.13, 13.77 ml) was recorded on senescence day. In Caryota urens (Fishtail palm) 0.50% wax emulsion concentration recorded minimum foliage weight (9.71 g), minimum water uptake (6.53 ml) on 3rdday, while maximum foliage weight(1.83 g) and maximum water uptake (1.20 ml) on senescence day. In Heliconia psittachroum cv. Golden Torch, 1.00 % wax emulsion concentration recorded minimum foliage weight (28.85 g), minimum water uptake (20.35 ml) on 3rdday, whereas maximum foliage weight (15.83 g)and maximum water uptake (5.75 ml) on senescence day. There was improvement and increament in post harvest quality and vase life of studied ornamental cut foliages.

ABSTRACT: Floriculture and landscaping sector has the same problems as other crops regarding weed management. Weeds affect the yield and quality of the harvested product, in which the visual aspect and aesthetics stand out as the most important factors in flower production and landscaping. Weed control in floriculture and landscaping is critical and costly because maintaining the beauty of the product and the use of herbicides is a low-cost management tool compared to manual management. However, it implies knowing herbicide selectivity, as ornamental species may present some injury depending on the active ingredient and the degree of selectivity of the compound. Because the use of this practice in flower production and landscaping both abroad and mainly in Brazil is incipient, aspects of selectivity, chemical weed control, and safe application of different herbicides are addressed in this paper.

Ageing on Lees (AOL) is a technique to improve the aromatic and gustatory complexity of wine, mainly by improving its body and reducing its astringency. However, the autolytic process is slow, resulting in high production costs. This work evaluated the effect of adding sonicated lees and combining it with oak chips, as a new technique to accelerate the AOL process and improve the aromatic quality of aged red wine. Cell disruption due to sonication was verified by optical microscopy. Volatile acidity, total polyphenol index, color intensity, tonality, dissolved oxygen, anthocyanins, and fermentative volatiles were monitored throughout the ageing of the wines. Sensory analysis was performed at the end of the ageing process. Polysaccharides released from the cell walls and the oxygen consumption, was quantified using a hydroalcoholic solution. The results indicated a 20% increase of the polysaccharide content and suggested an increase in the antioxidant capacity of the lees. No significant changes were observed in the fermentative volatile compounds and the total polyphenol index (TPI), except for those wines in contact with wood. The sonication of lees had some protective effect on the total anthocyanins content, however, color intensity was significantly lower in the sonicated treatments. The sonication of the lees did not cause any defect at the sensory level. Therefore, sonication could allow a reduction in the SO2 addition to wine, as well as a shortening of the ageing times.

Solvents have a bad reputation in the cosmetics world, at least as regards the production of specialty vegetable oils used in this market. In order to do without these solvents, the cosmetics industry tends to use only mechanically produced oils. However, there is a range of seeds for which mechanical extraction is not satisfactory. This is the case with rare, expensive, and oil-poor seeds for which pressing does not give good yields, and results in high production costs. These are also hard seeds that cannot be pressed without causing the presses to become intensely hot, and this affects the quality of the oils. In recent years, our laboratory has worked on the development of extraction techniques with ethanol and the EcoXtract® solvent (2-methyloxolane) in order to provide professionals with production methods compatible with the COSMOS standard. Ethanol is not a good solvent for oils, especially in the presence of water and at low temperature. This drawback can be turned into an advantage to recover the oil (without distillation of the solvent) by cold decantation. The extraction is carried out on the hot components, and the oil is recovered by cooling the saturated miscella for the precipitation of the lipid phase. This process makes it possible to limit the energy consumption necessary for the recovery of the oil and the regeneration of the solvent. The great advantage for oils intended for the cosmetic market is that ethanol has a better solvent power for polar lipids compared to hexane and mechanical extraction. It is possible to split the lipid extract into neutral lipids and polar lipids by adjusting the precipitation temperature or by partial distillation. At the refining step, it is also possible to deacidify and remove contaminants from crude oil by liquid-liquid extraction with ethanol. We have recently obtained interesting results by reducing the phthalate concentration of walnut oils by 90%. The use of ethanol for oil neutralization is a process which generates less loss of neutral oil than the alkaline neutralization of a mixture with high acidity, and this is less harmful than physical refining during the production of 3-MCPD esters, esters of glycidol, and trans fatty acids. EcoXtract® is a solvent derived from the chemistry of pentoses in biomass. This solvent has very good oil solvation capacities and less biological toxicity than hexane. Its production has an acceptable carbon footprint and good sustainability characteristics. It is recognised by Ecocert as suitable for producing COSMOS ingredients. Compared to ethanol, its use requires fewer preparation steps (ethanol requires rigorous drying before extraction) and it requires less circulating solvent per kilo of oil extracted. The solvent removal from the meal requires less energy and allows the use of direct steam to aid in the removal of the solvent since the miscibility of water in this solvent is limited to 4.5 g/100g.

Environmental health is referring to the health of people in relation to environmental quality. Due to rapid urbanisation, more people are living in urban neighbourhoods. Urban planning and design aspects including the neighbourhood environment are potentially affecting the human healthy lifestyle and health condition. Thus, the relationship between Malaysian neighbourhood environmental aspects and human health has become the concern of this research. One of the neighbourhood units in Shah Alam city had been chosen as the study area for this purpose. Questionnaire survey had been carried out to examine the health condition and physical activeness of residents. Besides, the perception of residents on the quality of neighbourhood environmental aspects also had been collected in the questionnaire survey. The health condition of residents was measured by non-communicable diseases (NCD) and the physical activeness was measured in duration as well as the frequency of physical exercise activities. The study found that the quality of neighbourhood environmental aspects significantly increased the physical activeness of respondents. The physical activeness was positively associated with human health as measured in NCD (heart diseases and high blood pressure, HBP). It shows that neighbourhood environmental (physical and social) aspects are potentially affecting the healthy life of people living in the neighbourhood.Keywords: Healthy life, Neighbourhood environment, Non-communicable diseases (NCD), Physical activeness, Quality.

Установлено, что на пойменных почвах использование методов диагностики минерального питания растений моркови «по почве» и «по черешку» в фазу начала образования корнеплодов позволяет значительно (на 36–42%) снизить расход минеральных удобрений, обеспечивая урожайность моркови на уровне 70 т/га с долей стандартной продукции 78–81% без существенного изменения качества корнеплодов.It was found that in floodplain soils, the use of methods of diagnosis of mineral nutrition of carrot plants «on the soil» and «on the petiole» in the phase of the beginning of the formation of root crops can significantly (by 36–42%) reduce the consumption of mineral fertilizers, ensuring the yield of carrots at the level of 70 t/ha with a share of standard production of 78–81% without significantly changing the quality of root crops.
