For the probabilistic design of high-pressure turbine (HPT) blade-tip radial running clearance (BTRRC), a distributed collaborative response surface method (DCRSM) was proposed, and the mathematical model of DCRSM was established. From the BTRRC probabilistic design based on DCRSM, the static clearance δ=1.865 mm is demonstrated to be optimal for the BTRRC design considering aeroengine reliability and efficiency. Meanwhile, DCRSM is proved to be of high accuracy and efficiency in the BTRRC probabilistic design. The present study offers an effective way for HPT BTRRC dynamic probabilistic design and provides also a promising method for the further probabilistic optimal design of complex mechanical system.

This investigation was done to study machinability during drilling on sandwichlaminates. Vetiver and jute were used as natural fibers and glass was used as synthetic fibers in vinyl ester matrixin the form oflaminatesby varying the fiber content in each laminate. The laminateswere drilled during which spindle speed, spindle feed rate, tool point angle and sample laminate weremodified using D-optimal design technique. During drilling of each hole, thrust force impressed and torque developedwere noted as outputs. The outputswere optimized to observe best drilling conditions.A fuzzy model was created and its predictions for trialconditionswere noted. A comparison between trial values, regression values and fuzzy values was made. Confirmatory trialswere madefor optimumset of runs and outputswere again noted. The percentage of error between the model, confirmatory trials and fuzzy were found to be meagre and hence concluded that the optimization was satisfactory.

The simple genetic algorithm (SGA) is taken as the global search method, and the traditional direct search method for mixed-discrete variables as the local search method. The improved (hybrid) genetic algorithm (IGA) is obtained by improving the SGA. And through the introduction of penalty constraints, the problem dealing with the constraints in GA is successfully resolved. A mathematical model for structural optimization of aqueduct is established, and computer software is developed for structural optimization of large-scale aqueduct based on IGA. Using this program, the Shuangji River aqueduct is optimized and Rectangle-sectioned aqueduct design plan is obtained. Compared with the original design plan, optimal design is very economical and was adopted by Design Institute.
