The COVID-19 pandemic has spread worldwide, with considerable public health and socio-economic impacts that are seriously affecting health and safety of workers, as well as their employment stability. Italy was the first of many other western countries to implement extended containment measures. Health workers and others employed in essential sectors have continued their activity, reporting high infection rate with many fatalities. The epidemiological trend highlighted the importance of work as a substantial factor to consider both when implementing strategies aimed at containing the pandemic and shaping the lockdown mitigation strategy required for sustained economic recovery. To support the decision-making process, we have developed a strategy to predict the risk of infection by SARS-CoV-2 in the workplace based on the analysis of the working process and proximity between employees; risk of infection connected to the type of activity; involvement of third parties in the working processes and risk of social aggregation. We applied this approach to outline a risk index for each economic activity sector, with different levels of detail, also considering the impact on mobility of the working population. This method was implemented into the national epidemiological surveillance model in order to estimate the impact of re-activation of specific activities on the reproduction number. It has also been adopted by the national scientific committee set up by the Italian Government for action-oriented policy advice on the COVID-19 emergency in the post lockdown phase. This approach may play a key role for public health if associated with measures for risk mitigation in enterprises through strategies of business process re-engineering. Furthermore, it will make a contribution to reconsidering the organization of work, including also innovation and fostering the integration with the national occupational safety and health (OSH) system.

Introduction: The pandemic of COVID-19 has major effects, particularly on hospitals and health workers. At the beginning of March, more than 3,300 health workers have beencontracted with COVID-19 as reported by China's National Health Commission. Twenty percent of healthcare workers in Italy have also also infected and some died. To minimize the risk of transmission to health workers, knowledge of the risk factors that influence the transmission is needed. Thus, this study aims to determine risk factors related to occupational safety and health for healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The literature was searched on Pubmed, Google Scholar, WHO, and the Ministry of Health instruments were implemented. 8 relevant studies were reviewed. Results: According to the analysis results of several studies, the use of PPE that is less consistent and not suitable with the risk of exposure will increase the risk of infection. The risk of infection is also increased by poor hand hygiene. According to the Kaplan-Meier curve, the working duration of ≥ 15 hours will increase the risk of infection. The risk of infection also exists for health workers who carry out risky procedures that generate airborne particles such as resuscitation, as well as environmental factors such as negative pressure rooms and traffic control bundling. Conclusion: Risk factors related to occupational health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic for healthcare staff are: compliance with the use of PPE, hand hygiene, working hours duration, risky procedures, and environmental factors.Keywords: healthcare workers, occupational safety, COVID-19, personal protective equipment

This article examines the occupational health considerations that might impact the health and wellbeing of public health workers during responses to natural (eg, floods and hurricanes) and humancaused (eg, terrorism, war, and shootings) disasters. There are a number of articles in the medical literature that argue the impact of how working long hours by house staff physicians, nurses, and first-responders may pose health and safety concerns regarding the patients being treated. The question examined here is how working long hours may pose health and/or safety concerns for the public health workers themselves, as well as to those in the communities they serve. The health problems related to sleep deprivation are reviewed. Current policies and legislations regarding work-hour limitations are examined. Policy implications are discussed.

Number of work accident in the world is still high .In indonesia total of accident case caused by work years 2011- 2014 the highest in 2013 namely 35.917. The purpose of this research to know the influence of safety and health work of the performance of workers the “One Galaxy Surabaya” project. This research including research quantitative , by using kuisioner a gatherer data , sample used is 100 employees “One The Galaxy Surabaya” project, analysis data using test simple linear regression. Based on 6 spss test, obtained the results of the of the respondents, valid responses it is reliable, scattered normal, data does not happen multikolinierity, does not happen heteroskedastys and there is the influence of between health and occupational safety and. employee performance. There is the influence of health and safety work (X) against employee performance (Y) it is proven with the value of the importance of 0,004 smaller than the probability of 0,05 and known the value of r square 0,662. as much as This value containing the sense that the influence of health and safety work (X) on performance employees (Y) reached 66,2 % while 33,8 % the performance of employees affected by other variables that are not researched health and safety work (K3) have been implemented in an optimal so as to improve the performance of a construction worker“One Galaxy Surabaya” project

UNSTRUCTURED While health care and public health workers are working on measures to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an unprecedentedly large number of people spending much more time indoors, and relying heavily on the Internet as their lifeline. What has been overlooked is the influence of the increasing online activities on public health issues. In this article, we pointed out how a large-scale online activity called cyber manhunt may threaten to offset the efficacy of contact tracing investigation, a public health intervention considered highly effective in limiting further transmission in the early stage of a highly contagious disease outbreak such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first section, we presented a case to show how personal information obtained from contact investigation and disclosed in part on the media provoked a vehement cyber manhunt. We then discussed the possible reasons why netizens collaborate to reveal anonymized personal information about contact investigation, and specify, from the perspective of public health and public health ethics, four problems of cyber manhunt, including the lack of legitimate public health goals, the concerns about privacy breach, the impact of misinformation, and social inequality. Based on our analysis, we concluded that more moral weight may be given to protecting one's confidentiality, especially in an era with the rapid advance of digital and information technologies.

Abstract Background Congenital malformations (CMs) represent a serious public health problem, both in terms of size (3% newborns/year) and severity of outcomes. The surveillance activity carried out by the Registers is an important tool for monitoring the frequency of events, to evaluate etiology, support research and public health actions. The aim is to evaluate the organization and the information network related to the diagnosis of malformation in the S. Anna presidium. Methods the retrospective study analyzed all newborns with one or more CM and all cases of TOPFA (Termination of Pregnancy for Fetal Anomaly) for CMs in the period 01/2020 - 01/2021. A forward-looking pilot study was then set up to assess the impact on the quality of data collection through the introduction of a MC sheet. Results 510 cases of CMs were found in live births, 180 in TOPFA for CMs and 4 in stillbirths. The duration of hospitalizations averaged 14.5 days (σ 36.56), with a median of 4 days. In the CMs group, an average maternal age of 33.40 years (σ 9.32), a median of 33 years and a mode of 33 years were calculated, in the TOPFA group an average maternal age of 34 years (σ 6.34), a median of 34 years and a mode of 32 years. In the live births group, 701 maternal diagnoses were detected, categorized and compared with the various national reports. The MC Sheet was compiled for 60 patients, 16 (4.30%) patients before the introduction of the sheet (01/2020 - 09/2020) and 44 (30.43%) after its introduction (10/2020 - 01/2021). Regarding the assessment of the proper use of ICD9CM an adequacy of 78% was observed in the first group vs one of 100% in the second. Conclusions Our preliminary data assess the need for a Regional registry, for a comparison with the main national and regional sources available (also with a view to possible participation in the EUROCAT and ICBDSR registers) and for regional health planning. Key messages The study underlines the need for a Regional Registry of congenital malformations. The clinical file is not always a complete source for analysing data on congenital malformations.

This chapter highlights the story of autism, the widespread acceptance of its incorrect cause, and the impact on use of vaccines, all stemming directly from deliberate, false reporting. The basic conflict is twofold. First, involvement of a scientific method that must be reproducible, be reliable, and possess substantial proof is in conflict with common/personal beliefs. Second, doctors, scientists, and public health workers, despite their mandate to listen to parents and patients concerning their opinions, must base medical conclusions on evidence that validates the outcome of each patient’s health issue. It is in this milieu that autism and the anti-vaccine groups still do battle. In 1998, Lancet, a usually respectable and reputable English journal, published Dr. Andrew Wakefield’s opinion that the measles, mumps, rubella (German measles) vaccine injected into the arms of children caused inflammation, leading to harmful chemicals entering the bloodstream through the gut (intestine). These factors, he said, traveled to the brain, where the harmful chemicals/toxins caused autism. In the face of this “fake news” about the source of autism and measles, the vaccination rate for measles dropped in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

This paper focuses on the discussion of the impact of IM-SmartSAFETY courseware on foreign workers in the construction industry. This courseware was developed as an alternative media of information delivery in bilingual multimedia and two directional teaching aids for foreign workers in Health and Safety Induction Course (HSIC). The study discovered that the IM-SmartSAFETY courseware have contributed a great impact and meets the needs of the foreign workers on construction sites as well as one of the mechanism to help tackle the language problem. The study was conducted quantitative research methods supported by qualitative research is found a parallel in terms of data acquisition which is seen IM-SmartSAFETY courseware has helped meet the needs of foreign workers regarding personal protective equipment (PPE) in terms of knowledge about the types and uses of PPE, safety regulations related to PPE, proper wear of PPE and the effect of the proper usage of PPE which include safety helmets, safety boots, protective clothing or safety jackets, ear protection, eye and face protection, safety belts, protective glove and protective breathing after using the courseware. The findings also exhibits that the overall of helpfulness of courseware also found that language issues have been resolved. In fact, the acquisition of knowledge foreign workers on safety at construction sites and the way of delivery information by the trainers to foreign workers have been enhanced while reducing the rate of accidents on construction sites and increase foreign workers awareness about the hazard and improve occupational safety of foreign workers in Malaysia.

This case study examines the evolution and impact of a training partnership between the Rutgers University/N.J. Industrial Union Council's (IUC) Occupational Safety and Health Project and the American Standard Corporation's Trenton facility. The study draws on on-site interviews with three employees who played a key role in the training program as well as survey data from a broader cross-section of the facility's workforce. Insights about the impact of training are viewed within the context of the adult education and evaluation literature, particularly studies focusing on participatory, interactive training techniques. Committed activists, a supportive union and management, and the infusion of skills and ideas from the Rutgers/IUC worker-to-worker health and safety program are viewed as key factors in understanding developments at the facility. In addition, the study emphasizes the importance of relationships developed between union activists, facility management, and the OSHEP training staff. On January 2, 2001, the corporation announced plans to shut down the facility within the year, and plans for training the rest of the work force were dropped. Although the site-specific training program was cut short, this case study traces changes in the plant's health and safety culture that occurred over a three-year period.

AbstractIn Indonesia, currently the number of victims infected with Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is increasing, causing death. The impact of Covid-19 on the labor sector, namely company closures, delays in mobilization and decreased productivity. The research was conducted using a statutory and conceptual approach. The results showed that the Covid-19 virus was a disease caused by biological exposure factors. What employers can give workers / laborers in the work environment during the Covid-19 pandemic is the right to Occupational Safety and Health (K3). K3 is a protection that must be received by workers in order to prevent accidents in the work environment. In accordance with the mandate of the Work Safety Law and the Labor Law, workers infected with the Covid-19 virus can recover to their original state if they are given adequate health insurance by the state. However, until now there has been no latest legal regulation regarding the protection of workers who work amid Covid-19. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pendekatan perundang-undangan dan konseptual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa virus Covid-19 termasuk ke dalam penyakit akibat faktor pajanan biologi. Hal yang dapat diberikan pengusaha kepada pekerja/buruh di lingkungan kerja selama pandemi Covid-19 adalah hak atas Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja (K3). K3 merupakan perlindungan yang wajib diterima oleh pekerja guna mencegah terjadinya kecelakaan di lingkungan kerja. Sesuai dengan amanat UU Keselamatan Kerja dan UU Ketenagakerjaan, pekerja yang terinfeksi virus Covid-19, dapat pulih seperti keadaan semula apabila diberikan jaminan kesehatan yang memadai oleh negara. Namun, sampai saat ini belum ada peraturan hukum terbaru terkait perlindungan pekerja yang bekerja ditengah Covid-19. SARS-CoV-2 variant Omicron (B.1.1.529) was classified as a variant of concern (VOC) on November 26, 2021. The infectivity, severity, and immune evasion properties of Omicron relative to the Delta variant will determine 1) the probability of dominant future transmission, and 2) the impact on disease burden. Here we apply an individual-based transmission model to identify thresholds for Omicrons potential dominance, impact on health, and risk to health systems; and identify for which combinations of viral properties, current interventions would be sufficient to control transmission. We show that, with first-generation SARS-CoV-2 vaccines and limited physical distancing in place, the threshold for Omicrons future dominance will primarily be driven by its degree of infectivity. However, Omicrons potential dominance may not necessarily lead to increased public health burden. Expanded vaccination that includes a third-dose for adults and child vaccination strategies is projected to have the biggest public health benefit for a highly infective, highly severe variant with low immune evasion capacity. However, a highly immune evading variant that becomes dominant will likely require alternative measures for control, such as strengthened physical distancing measures, novel treatments, and second-generation vaccines. These findings provide quantitative guidance to decision-makers at a critical time while Omicron properties are being assessed. We emphasize the importance of both genomic and population epidemiological surveillance.
