In this article the optical time division multiplexingtechnique for high speed point-to-point optical networksis discussed. We performed test of influence of selected types modulation formats in the optical time division multiplexing simulation model with a distance of 30 km. Additionally, this paper focuses on maximum bandwidth usage, improvement of bit error rate and the another goal is to achieve the maximal transmission distance by using of special compensation optical fiber. Optimal length of compensation optical fiber was found and used during simulations. We demonstrated positive influence compensation optical fiber on bit error rate. For comparisonof modulation formats such as return-to-zero, non-return-to-zero, chirped-return-to-zero, carrier-suppressed-return-to-zero, and m-ary quadrature amplitude modulation were tested. Our results confirm that it is possible to achieve better bit error rate for selected modulation formats.

Abstract Different modulation formats for 64×20-GB/s dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) system has been compared and simulated using Optsim. Various performance parameters including Q-factor, bit error rate, jitter, eye opening & eye closure are observed and analyzed. It is reported that RZ Soliton format is a better choice among the tested formats. Also, for the proposed system, minimum channel spacing should be 50 GHz.

AbstractIn this paper, we report the performance of a carrier depletion Silicon PIN phase shifter with over layer of 130 nm. It is observed that an optimum intrinsic gap of 250 nm for a device length of 5 mm at 2 V, resulted in Extinction Ratio (ER) of 23.41 dB and Bit Error Rate (BER) of 1.00 × 10−7 is obtained for 50 Gbps. The phase shifter is also designed for length 2 mm with an intrinsic gap of 100 nm at an operating voltage <4 V. The study also reveals that the proposed design for Mach-Zehnder modulator operating at a data rate of 100 Gbps for the concentration of P = 7 × 1017 cm−3 and N = 5 × 1017 cm−3 gives better BER and phase performance. The proposed design was also analysed in an intra-data centre communication setup of fibre length 15 km.
