This paper is focused on a millimeter-wave detector system that works at self-heterodyne mode. The detector antenna and MMW front-end are integrated and a weak heterodyne signal is amplified with a low-noise amplifier. After high-speed sampled with a high-speed A/D, digital signal are processed in a FPGA. Some experiment results are shown finally.

This work presents an alternative fast and simple method for the design of a refractive index profile of silica multimode optical fibers (MMFs) with extremely enlarged core diameters of up to 100 µm for laser-based multi-gigabit short-range optical networks. We demonstrate some results of 100 µm core MMF graded index profile optimization performed by a proposed solution, which provides a selected mode staff differential mode delay (DMD) reduction over the “O”-band under particular launching conditions. Earlier on, a developed alternative model for a piecewise regular multimode fiber optic link operating in a few-mode regime for the computation of laser-excited optical pulse dynamics during its propagation over an irregular silica graded-index MMF with an extremely large core diameter, is utilized to estimate the potentiality of fiber optic links with the described MMFs. Here, we also present the comparison results of the simulation of 10GBase-LX optical signal transmission over 100 µm core MMFs with conventional and optimized graded-index refractive index profiles.

Swirl effervescent atomizer consists of two atomization mechanisms, effervescent and swirl. For a swirl-related atomizer, the air/gas core diameter was reported to be one of the factors affecting the widening of spray angle. A wider spray angle is important to provide a better spray distribution. The characteristic of gas core in an inside-out swirl effervescent atomizer was investigated as part of the study in understanding the mechanism of this type of atomization. The interaction effects between three independent parameters (i.e. swirl-generating vane angle, gas flowrate and discharge orifice diameter) on the size and characteristics of the gas core were investigated. Water and nitrogen gas were used respectively as the working fluid and atomization gas. The high-speed shadowgraph technique was utilized to record the videos of the gas core structures. The video recordings were converted to image sequences and analyzed using an image processing software. It was concluded that a larger gas core was produced with an increasing vane angle or gas flowrate. The increasing gas flowrate tends to increase the gas core size for all cases of the vane angle. Increasing the orifice diameter tends to increase the gas core size for all cases of the gas flowrate. The interaction between the orifice diameter and swirl-generating vane angle on the size of the gas core was inconclusive.
