The ICT scene is dominated by short-range intra-datacenter interconnects and networking, requiring high speed and stable operations at high temperatures. GaAs/AlGaAs vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) emitting at 850–980 nm have arisen as the main actors in this framework. Starting from our in-house 3D fully comprehensive VCSEL solver VENUS, in this work we present the possibility of downscaling the dimensionality of the simulation, ending up with a multiphysics 1D solver (D1ANA), which is shown to be capable of reproducing the experimental data very well. D1ANA is then extensively applied to optimize high-temperature operation, by modifying cavity detuning and distributed Bragg’s reflector lengths.

Abstract Geothermal logging tools are difficult to develop due to sustained high temperature operation. Recent commercial component offerings are significantly altering the high temperature geothermal tool problem. This paper implements a new baseline geothermal tool circuit working with five 225C, SOI components. An example tool including up to four spinners (fluid flow measurement), four analog inputs (for pressure, temperature or other sensors), EEPROM storage (program and data), FSK logic (wireline data transmission), and a high-speed UART (tool communication). Field updates of code and calibration constants are supported. Further, this paper demonstrates how the tool electronics can be expanded for more complex applications such as a geothermal well logging camera.

Abstract ALX is a composition of nonferrous materials with a cobalt base containing chromium, tungsten and carbon. This alloy is commonly supplied in the cast-to-shape form, having an as-cast hardness of Rockwell C60-62 and requiring no further heat treatment. ALX is also supplied as cast tool bit material and is useful where conventional high-speed steels or carbides do not function effectively. Abstract CPM Rex 121 is a super high-speed steel with significantly higher wear resistance and red hardness than other high-speed steels. It is best suited for applications requiring high cutting speeds. It may provide an alternative to carbide where carbide cutting edges are too fragile. The annealed hardness is approximately 350-400 HB, and maximum hardness is approximately 72 HRC.
