The numerical simulation of air bubbles breakwater was presented in this paper. The two-phase fluid of water and air was assumed as a variable density fluid. The numerical models were developed by FLUENT in order to explore the air amount scale in the system of air bubbles breakwater . The impact of double air discharged pipes on the wave dissipating performance of air bubble breakwater was obtained, which illuminated that under the condition of equal total air amount of Qp, the wave dissipating performance of air bubbles breakwater with double air discharged pipes breakwater may not be improved in comparison with the air bubbles breakwater with single air discharged pipe.

The impact of certain extreme events on the construction index is of greatly importance which could be viewed as a huge turning to the index. In the paper, the Wenchuan Earthquake of China would be chosen as the extreme event and an EMD-based (Empirical Mode Decomposition) analysis approach would be used to test the earthquake’s impact. In the proposed method, a t-test is necessary to prove the significant level which could say the earthquake did have huge influence on the change of the construction index (399235.SZ) measured in Shenzhen stock market. Then the time series would be decomposed into six different modes and one residue which represent different turnings with different fluctuations and an average trend. Different fluctuations are caused by different factors but there is only one or several dominant modes can reflect the impact caused by certain extreme event which is the Wenchuan Earthquake of China in this study. Through a step-by-step analysis based on the EMD-based analysis approach, a simple solution would be obtained to estimate the huge impact caused by the Wenchuan Earthquake on the construction index which we name an EMD-based event analysis method.

AbstractObjectiveWe aimed to compare injury characteristics and the timing of admissions and surgeries in the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008 and the Lushan earthquake in 2013.MethodsWe retrospectively compared the admission and operating times and injury profiles of patients admitted to our medical center during both earthquakes. We also explored the relationship between seismic intensity and injury type.ResultsThe time from earthquake onset to the peak in patient admissions and surgeries differed between the 2 earthquakes. In the Wenchuan earthquake, injuries due to being struck by objects or being buried were more frequent than other types of injuries, and more patients suffered injuries of the extremities than thoracic injuries or brain trauma. In the Lushan earthquake, falls were the most common injury, and more patients suffered thoracic trauma or brain injuries. The types of injury seemed to vary with seismic intensity, whereas the anatomical location of the injury did not.ConclusionsGreater seismic intensity of an earthquake is associated with longer delay between the event and the peak in patient admissions and surgeries, higher frequencies of injuries due to being struck or buried, and lower frequencies of injuries due to falls and injuries to the chest and brain. These insights may prove useful for planning rescue interventions in trauma centers near the epicenter. (Disaster Med Public Health Preparedness. 2014;8:541-547)
