It is argued that patents encourage scientific development, benefiting society by creating useful products and services that improve the quality of life. However, by granting exclusive rights of exploitation, patents create situations in which they interfere with the exercise of the freedom of scientific research. This work examines five scenarios where this problem can be seen and the utilitarian function of patents is questioned. Firstly, the effects of research funding in the definition of the lines and research objectives are observed. Secondly, the anticommons is studied, as it is a situation where excessive fragmentation of ownership in scientific knowledge may prevent its use. Thirdly, broad patents and their implications are examined. Fourthly, the deterrent power of patent litigation, which creates an unexpected business model, is analyzed. Fifthly, secrecy is looked upon, as it is encouraged by the logic in which the patent system works.

At present, caries has become one of the diseases that threaten peoples' health. Because caries usually does not affect patients' life safety, it is not paid enough attention to. In fact, the harm of caries to human health is significant. Caries can cause damage, defect or loss of teeth in the oral cavity. And it may seriously affect the quality of life and health of patients. Especially for children, they are in a critical period of growth and development. Caries may cause pain, lead to inflammation of alveolar bone and jawbone. The development of the dental system will be affected, and even lead to deformity. The prevalence of caries is high in children. Therefore, general prevention and treatment of caries is of great significance to the healthy growth of children

Plants have a significant role in preserving human health and improving quality of life. gokshura (Tribulus terrestris Linn.) one of such plants, is mentioned in Ayurvedic texts for various therapeutic properties like balya(strengthening),  brimhana (nutritive), rasayana(rejuvenator), mootrala(diuretic), shothahara(anti-inflammatory), vajikarana (aphrodisiac) etc. and useful in the management of mutrakrichhra (dysurea), ashmari (renal calculi) etc. It is a perennial plant, grown predominantly in India and Africa. Its extract contains alkaloids, saponins, resins, flavanoids and nitrates. As its therapeutic values, a review has been done to gather information on different aspects of gokshura. Further Ayurvedic references, the present paper also emphasizes on recent researches carried out on this plant for its pharmacological evaluation. IntroductionQuality of life at work has very much to do with educational efforts during medical residence years. Constant changes of work environment for general practice residents, is a strong reason for high levels of stress at work.ObjectivesOur study is to present the general rules of work for general practice residents in surgical departments in Greece and the quality of their lives and career motivation.MethodsWe use information coming from two hospitals, a large city hospital which covers a population of 780.000 of citizens during all-night duties, and a provincial hospital, which covers a population of 50.000 citizens.ResultsIn both workplaces, general practice residents spend much of their education time in the emergencies department or the outpatient clinics of surgery. Stress is more intense in the large hospital, based on the number of patients examined per day and the frustration they receive at work. However, the heavy duty to accompany a patient for a transfer to other hospital is much more often in province, and then the stress is much more intense and lasting. Frustration is also often in the urban hospital where the residents of various specialties are more experienced and have more confidence due to their departments expertise. Satisfaction at work varies according to the personality of every doctor.ConclusionsOpportunities for scientific development through participation in scientific meetings was stronger in the provincial Hospital due to a good team of strongly motivated researchers that happened to be there and better work environment.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

The members of ABTPé deserve recognition for the effective and prolific work they produce when the goal is scientific, with emphasis on our professional improvement. The concern about technical and scientific development and improvement of the association’s members is clearly highlighted by the high quality of our presentations. In our country of continental dimensions, we see many different approaches that we can apply to patients in a search for the best solutions for individuals affected by ankle and foot conditions. When evaluating our results, the interest and rights of patients should be considered, and therefore, we must keep in mind the need to accurately plan our routine practices. The care for these individuals should include a wide range of services that promote their psychological and social wellbeing and their working conditions. This is how we view a broader perspective that involves questions reflecting on how our actions affect individuals’ lives. This concern should also address the needs regarding our own quality of life. It thus becomes necessary to identify and focus on the factors that are worth the expenditure of our energy and to act mindfully in the pursuit of rewards for our actions. The diversity of our practice has demonstrated that we will be able to keep pace with technological development and apply it in a way that preserves the greater interest of patients. The format of this care will be very important in light of the enormous variety of disorders that affect the feet, as shown by the number of subjects addressed in this edition. Have a great reading. Act ethically, be mindful.   Jorge Mitsuo MizusakiEditor-in-Chief
