Porosity variations induced by swelling agent exchange were studied in a styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer. Standard methods were used in the characterization of copolymer porosity in the dry state and the results were compared with related structural parameters derived from small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) measurements as developed for the characterization of two-phase systems. The SAXS method was also used for porosity determination in swollen samples. The differences in the porosity of dry samples were found to be an effect of the drying process, while in the swollen state the sample swells and deswells isotropically.

A novel exfoliated polyurethane (PU)/clay Interpenetrating Polymer Networks (IPNs) nanocomposite has been synthesized with polyurethane and organoclay. MTPAC is used as swelling agent to treat Na-montmorillonite for forming organoclay. The results indicate that there is very good compatibility between organoclay and PU. Nanoscale silicate dispersion was analyzed by XRD. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposites have been measured by tensile testing machine. The nanocomposites show obviously improved physical and mechanical properties when compared with the pure polymer. Additionally, PU /MTPAC- clay shows lower water absorption properties than pure PU do. In addition, the reinforcing and intercalating mechanism of silicate layers in polyurethane matrix are discussed.

This research were aimed to know the plumbum (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) profile on soybean seeds as contaminants of the impact use of agrochemistry material impact and to know of swelling agent of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) needs at certain level of pH in chelation with citric acid. The results showed that the content of Pb in soybean seeds at cultivation system agrochemistry materials i.e. 0.63 ppm, while cultivation system without agrochemistry materials i.e. 0.46 ppm. Cd content in soybean seeds at cultivation system agrochemistry materials i.e. 0.05 ppm and the cultivation system without agrochemistry materials i.e. 0.1 ppm. Acceptable daily intake in terms of Pb content in soybean after treatment increases to 2.93 times compared before treatment (11.3379 to 33.2099 g per body weight per day). Acceptable daily intake in terms of the content of the Cd in soybean after treatment increases to 5.26 times compared before treatment. The value of the bio-concentration factor which expressed an accumulation of Pb in soybean seeds on both cultivation is low system (BCF<250), while for Cd is a moderate to high level (1.000<BCF>250). Cd reduction on soybeans seeds for all chelation treatment was maximum (not detected-detection limits was 0.01 ppm), while the highest reduction of Pb occurs at swelling agent N, N-dimethylformamide 15 mL at pH 10.

Rat liver mitochondria undergo reversible swelling in the presence of a fatty acyl CoA generating system. Contraction of the swollen mitochondria was observed on the addition of either carnitine or cytochrome c. At low concentrations the two agents acted synergistically. At high concentrations cytochrome c completely replaced the requirement for carnitine.Cytochrome c also promoted the contraction of mitochondria swollen in the presence of fatty acid alone, provided that either ATP or ADP was added to initiate the contraction. The stimulation by cytochrome c was greater in the presence of ADP, and the contraction was more sensitive to respiratory inhibitors or dinitrophenol but was less sensitive to oligomycin than in the presence of ATP. Studies of the metabolism of 14C-labelled palmitate during cytochrome c induced contraction showed that decreases in mitochondrial-bound fatty acid and corresponding increases in water-soluble metabolites coincided with the reversal of swelling. The results indicated that the energy requirement for mitochondrial contraction in the presence of cytochrome c was provided by generation of high-energy intermediates coupled to oxidation of the fatty acid swelling agent.

This paper reviews water swelling of rubber, based on nitrile-butadiene rubber, modified by polyacrylamide and copolymer acrylamide with potassium acrylate, also their combination with sodium-carboxymethyl cellulose. During the exposure for 14 days at a temperature of 67 °С swelling ratio in water is 200 % and 47 % in 10 % aqueous solution of sodium chloride.
