Water quality assessment has been carried out in the Hakaluki Haor of greater Sylhet district during May, 2013 to February, 2014. Water samples were collected from 5 spots during 4 seasons and a total of 15 physico-chemical parameters were studied. Significant seasonal variation was observed in all seasons among physico-chemical parameters. pH values varied from 5.9 - 7.1, water temperature varied from 23.7 – 26.7OC, transference varied from 23-53 cm, TSS varied from 18.1-192 mg/l, TDS varied 25-193.5 mg/l, EC varied from 30-680 ?s/cm , DO content of water varied from 4.6 - 5.6mg/l, BOD varied from 0.2-2.614 mg/l, COD varied from 38-312 mg/l, NO3-N varied from 0.1-30.4 mg/l, NH3 varied from 0.9-2.18 mg/l, alkalinity varied from 12-42 mg/l and PO4 varied from 0.9 -13.4 (mg/l). The present study deals with phytoplankton population of Navule pond in Shivamogga during September 2014 to August 2015. Blue-greens constituted the major group (41.75%) followed by Chlorococcalas (36.68%), Diatoms (13.36%), euglenoids (7.35%) and Desmids (0.86%). The phytoplankton community was composed of 11 species of Blue-greens, 20 species of Chlorococcales, 18 species of Diatoms, 11 species of Euglenoids and 08 species of Desmids. Each group of phytoplankton showed different peak periods, the summer season produces relatively more phytoplankton than rainy and winter season. The variations in physico-chemical parameters are responsible for the fluctuation of quantity of phytoplankton.  The dominant genera recorded on the pond were Anabaenopsis sp., Ocillatoria sp., Euglena sp., and Phacus. Some of the pollution tolerant species identified during the present study are Scenedesmusquadricauda, Coelastrum sp., Tetraedonmuticum, Ocillatoria sp., Phormidium sp., Microcystis sp., Anabaena sp., Navicula sp., Synedra ulna, Cyclotella sp., and Pinnularia sp. In the present study Microcystisaeroginosa was recorded indicates the civic pollution.

The present study deals with the statistical analysis of physico-chemical parameters and cyanophycean members of two pond water quality of Chidambaram, Cuddalore district (Tamil Nadu). The qualities of pond water were analyzed for six months. Eleven important parameters were included in statistical analysis. The qualities of pond water have been assessed by calculating mean, standard deviation and correlation coefficient. Correlation studies of hydrobiology with physico-chemical parameters revealed that the relationship between phytoplankton density in general and that of the specific groups are highly complex and often controlled by interactions of different factors. In the both pond water the correlation coefficient test revealed that cyanophycean members positively correlated with temperature, pH, CO2, alkalinity, hardness, nitrate, BOD and COD at 1 % and 5 % level significant, where as it is negatively correlated with acidity and dissolved oxygen. In the present study it can be concluded that the cyanophycean members are highly tolerant organisms. They prefer to grow at higher temperatures and in highly alkaline, BOD and COD waters. Hence they can with stand high levels of contaminated waters of Thillai Kali Kovil pond, when compared to Ilamiyakkinar Kovil pond.
