A twenty day microearthquake survey of the Ngawha geothermal field, New Zealand, was undertaken in order to establish the level of preproduction seismicity and to test the usefulness of such surveys in geothermal exploration. The Ngawha geothermal field, in the far northwest of the North Island (Northland) is associated with a region of Quaternary basaltic volcanism. It is not a part of the much more extensive Taupo volcanic zone in the central North Island, site of the well‐known Wairakei geothermal field, among others. Although surface thermal activity at Ngawha is limited to a few relatively small hot springs, resistivity surveys have outlined a [Formula: see text] area of hot water at the 1-km depth level (Macdonald et al. , 1977). Test bores to that depth have encountered temperatures of up to 250 °C within Mesozoic graywacke. Overlying the graywacke is about 500 m of Cenozoic claystone and siltstone which forms an impermeable cap.

<p>Ambidexterity, defined as the ability to simultaneously explore new knowledge and exploit existing knowledge, allows firms to adapt over time, build a sustainable competitive advantage and achieve growth in the long run. However, due to the tensions and trade-offs between exploration and exploitation, pursuing ambidexterity or developing a more balanced strategy can be challenging. Previous research on ambidexterity has focused primarily on large and well-established organizations and the outcomes of ambidexterity such as performance, whereas little is known about how ambidexterity of small- and medium-sized family businesses in an international business context is managed, especially with regard to exporting, which is the most common form of internationalisation for those firms.  Therefore, the purpose of this qualitative case study is to understand how small- and medium-sized family firms manage ambidexterity in exporting. Specifically, I shed light on both market and product domains in exporting and further the impact of industrial cluster on firms’ approach to becoming ambidextrous. Using data from semi-structured interviews with six family-owned wineries located in the Marlborough wine region, New Zealand, the research provides evidence that family firms’ unique characteristics, that is, the socioemotional wealth, guide them to particular types of export exploration and exploitation activities in both market and product domains. These are not only aligned with their non-economic goals but also create synergies among seemingly contradictory ambidextrous activities. These findings suggest a behaviour logic and path to explain how ambidexterity in exporting is achieved, through combining and integrating exploration and exploitation in a balanced way. The findings also show that cluster membership improves family firms’ ability to achieve export ambidexterity by providing access to critical resources.  Overall, the study adds to the growing body of literature on family business internationalisation and organizational ambidexterity by focusing on the export context. It further links ambidexterity research to industrial cluster literature.</p>

This paper presents a detailed geological map at the 1:20,000 scale of the Tocomar basin in the Central Puna (north-western Argentina), which extends over an area of about 80 km2 and displays the spatial distribution of the Quaternary deposits and the structures that cover the Ordovician basement and the Tertiary sedimentary and volcanic units. The new dataset includes litho-facies descriptions, stratigraphic and structural data and new 234U/230Th ages for travertine rocks. The new reconstructed stratigraphic framework, along with the structural analysis, has revealed the complex evolution of a small extensional basin including a period of prolonged volcanic activity with different eruptive centres and styles. The geological map improves the knowledge of the geology of the Tocomar basin and the local interplay between orogen-parallel thrusts and orogen-oblique fault systems. This contribution represents a fundamental support for in depth research and also for encouraging geothermal exploration and exploitation in the Puna Plateau region.

Significance Fourteen days beforehand, Ardern said no new offshore oil and gas exploration permits would be awarded -- evidence she said of the “government of transformation” she promises. The offshore ban does not affect the wide areas already open for exploration and exploitation over the next three decades, but it reinforces the government’s intention to be more active on climate change and environmental protection. Like the government's “wellbeing economics”, this might prove transformative if Ardern can retain office through to at least the next election in 2020. Impacts The offshore oil and gas exploration ban could see earlier withdrawal by major oil producers. Onshore permits for oil and gas exploration and coal mining will continue. Any major political or economic shock will affect “transformation”, as Robertson warns.

Our collaboration involves groups in Denmark, the U.S.A. Spain and of course New Zealand. Combining ground-based and satellite (IUEandHST) observations we aim to determine accurate and precise stellar fundamental parameters for the components of Magellanic Cloud Eclipsing Binaries as well as the distances to these systems and hence the parent galaxies themselves. This poster presents our latest progress.
