This paper estimates aquifer characteristics in parts of Oru Area Imo State of Southeastern Nigeria using data from surface electrical soundings. Eighteen vertical electrical soundings were made in the study Area using a maximum current electrode separation of 1.0km.The Abem terrameter SAS 3000B was used in acquiring data. The Schlumberger electrode configuration was adopted in the survey. The result obtained show that the depth to water table varied from 27m to about 205m. Aquifer thickness varied from 24m to about 140m.The aquiferous zones have resistivity range of between 182Wm to about 3934Wm. Aquifer conductivity varied from 0.000254Siemens at Nempi to 0.01036Siemens at Akuma .Transverse resistance varied from 249809Wm2 at Nempi to 3956.5Wm2 at Akuma. Longitudinal conductance varied from 0.01614mho at Nempi to 0.55656mho at Umuoji

Seventeen Schlumberger vertical electrical soundings (VES) were carried out in parts of the Umuahia area of Nigeria, using a maximum current electrode separation of 1 km. The data were interpreted using a conventional partial curve‐matching method to obtain initial model parameters, which were used in a computer program to obtain final parameters. Three soundings were made at existing boreholes for comparison. Aquifer parameters of hydraulic conductivity and transmissivity were obtained by analyzing pumping test data from existing boreholes. The results of the interpretation revealed three distinct geoelectric layers overlying a conductive geoelectric basement. Based on the model obtained, aquifer hydraulic conductivity and transmissivity were calculated. The hydraulic conductivity calculated agreed closely with that determined from pumping test data. The results of the present study also indicate that the entire area is divided into two zones, each of which is homogeneous in hydraulic properties and water quality, but distinct from the other zone. A local groundwater divide between the Imo and Kwa‐Ibo drainage systems was also defined.

Groundwater is described as the water found beneath the surface of the earth in underground streams and aquifers and has become popular as a source of drinking potable water in Nigeria due to its quality when compared to other water sources. The Electrical resistivity method was employed in Imakun Omi Community, a coastal town in Ogun Waterside Local government area of  Ogun State with the aim of determining the groundwater potential of the area. A total of twenty (20) Vertical Electrical Soundings (VES) points were carried out in the area using the Schlumberger configuration with maximum current electrode separation (AB) of 300m using the ABEM SAS 1000 Terrameter. The results obtained were interpreted quantitatively and qualitatively using partial curve matching and computer iteration programs WINRESIST and SURFER 11 for the interpretation from which the reflection coefficient was computed. The groundwater potential of the rock units were evaluated and  40% of the stations show  high yield, 50% of the stations show medium yield and 10% of the stations was observed to have low yield. The aquifer thicknesses are very thick with values ranging from 6.9 m to 79.3 m, hence an average of 43.1mand overburden thicknesses ranging from 9.7m to 96.5 m, with an average of 53.1m

An electrical resistivity survey involving Vertical Electrical Soundings (VES) was carried out in the Barika collective village, southeast of Sulaimany City in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, to study groundwater characteristics such as depth, thickness and aquifer boundaries. Vertical electrical soundings by Schlumberger array were conducted in this area. The resistivity Schlumberger soundings which have a maximum current electrode spacing (AB) of 800m were carried out at fourteen sites along lines in the NE-SW and NW-SE directions. Interpretation of these soundings showed the presence of three geoelectrical horizons. The upper one is representing the alluvialdeposits with 3Ωm to 60Ωm range of resistivity values reflecting the heterogeneity of the slope deposits. The middle one is taken to be the unconfined jointed aquifer represented by the Tanjero Formation with a resistivity range of 10Ωm to 42Ωm and a thickness range of 24m to 106m. The third horizon is representing the lower part of the TanjeroFormation with a relatively high resistivity range of 51Ωm to 556Ωm. Based on these results and upon our recommendations, a successful water well was drilled yielding quite enough amount of fresh water.

Purpose The corrosivity and competence of soils within Uburu and Okposi areas of the Southern Benue Trough, Nigeria, were evaluated using the electrical resistivity method. This paper aims to provide information that will aid pre-design of subsurface iron/steel pipe networks for distribution of pipe-borne water and construction of subsurface structures for agricultural and environmental purposes. Design/methodology/approach In total, 22 vertical electrical soundings (VES) in the Schlumberger configuration were acquired with Allied Ohmega™ Terrameter with a maximum half current (AB/2) electrode spacing of 200 m. Layer parameters were determined using partial curve matching techniques, using the Schlumberger master curves, while processing and modelling were done with the IPI2win™ software. The VES results were interpreted qualitatively and quantitatively to obtain various curve types and layer parameters, respectively, which were used to categorize the area into different competence and corrosivity zones. The first layer isoresistivity and competence maps were used to delineate four zones (A,B,C and D) with varying apparent resistivities and competences. Findings Incompetent soils with resistivity values ranging from 24.3-88.7 Om are found in Zone A. The soils in Zone A are mainly expansive clays which swell on absorption of water. Zone B contains moderately competent soils with resistivity values ranging from 273-308.6 Om, while Zones C and D are underlain by sandstones and contain competent to highly competent soils with resistivity values ranging from 511-750 Om and 835-1,525 Om, respectively. Zone E contains highly corrosive (24.3 Om) to mildly corrosive (102 Om) soils; Zone F contains soils that are essentially non-corrosive with resistivity values ranging from 271-1,525 Om, while the corrosivity of soils within Zone G varies from corrosive to mildly corrosive, with resistivity values ranging from 44.3-114 Om. Research limitations/implications Some of the areas are not accessible because of community restrictions. Practical implications These findings are essentially very significant and should be taken into consideration when materials that are susceptible to corrosion are being considered for engineering, agricultural and environmental purposes in the area. Social implications The findings will aid water resource planners and developers on how to protect metal pipes from corrosion, when used for water reticulation and agricultural purposes. Originality/value This paper fulfils an identified need to study the corrosivity of soils in the study area with a view to providing adequate protection to metal objects when being considered for water reticulation for domestic and agricultural purposes in the area.

Enrolling a cohort in pregnancy can be methodologically difficult in terms of structuring data collection. For example, some exposures of interest may be time-critical while other (often retrospective) data can be collected at any point during pregnancy.  The Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) is a prime example of a cohort where certain data were collected at specific time points and others at variable times depending on the gestation at contact.  ALSPAC aimed to enrol as many pregnant women as possible in a geographically defined area with an expected date of delivery between April 1991 and December 1992. The ideal was to enrol women as early in pregnancy as possible, and to collect information, when possible, at two fixed gestational periods (18 and 32 weeks). A variety of methods were used to enrol participants.   Approximately 80% of eligible women resident in the study area were enrolled. Gestation at enrolment ranged from 4-41 (median = 14) weeks of pregnancy. Given this variation in gestation we describe the various decisions that were made in regard to the timing of questionnaires to ensure that appropriate data were obtained from the pregnant women.  45% of women provided data during the first trimester, this is less than ideal but reflects the fact that many women do not acknowledge their pregnancy until the first trimester is safely completed. Data collection from women at specific gestations (18 and 32 weeks) was much more successful (80-85%). Unfortunately, it was difficult to obtain environmental data during the first trimester. Given the time critical nature of exposures during this trimester, researchers must take the gestational age at which environmental data was collected into account. This is particularly important for data collected using the questionnaire named ‘Your Environment’ (using data known as the A files).

Kamsebtibcar Lantas or secure, safety, orderliness, and fluency of traffic are made in support of road safety actions reporting on traffic due to the lack of public knowledge about the importance of using self-protection tools that have been determined in traffic law number 22 of 2009 concerning traffic and road transport. By using this program, you can find out the relationship between the factors that cause accidents. From those collected from various regions in East Java, taken from 2016 to 2018. The data obtained can be processed using data mining techniques. This technique works by using a pattern that is a reference for decision making. By using the Fp-Growth algorithm that works with the data tree system to find out the patterns of reporting activities that are happening, this pattern is determined by two parameters, namely support (support value) and confidence (certainty value). With this system, it can help the parties concerned to improve facilities in various Kamseltibcar Lantas reporting activities. Kamsebtibcar lantas atau keamanan, keselamatan, ketertiban, dan kelancaran lalu lintas dibuat dalampedalam mendukung pelaporan aksi keselamatan jalan pada lalu lintas yang dikarenakan minimnya pengetahuan masyarakat tentang pentingnya penggunaan alat perlindungan diri yang telah ditentukan pada undang-undang nomor 22 tahun 2009 tentang lalu lintas dan angkutan jalan. Dengan menggunakan program ini dapat mengetahui hubungan antara faktor-faktor penyebab kecelakaan. Data yang dikumpulkan dari berbagai daerah yang ada di wilayah Jawa Timur diambil pada tahun 2016 sampai dengan 2018. Data yang telah didapat dapat diolah menggunakan teknik data mining. Teknik ini berfungsi dengan menggunakan pola yang menjadi acuan untuk penentuan keputusan. Dengan menggunakan algoritma Fp-Growth yang bekerja dengan sistem data tree untuk mengetahui pola kegiatan pelaporan kamsebticar lalu lintas yang sedang terjadi, pola ini ditentukan dengan dua parameter, yaitu support (nilai penunjang) dan confidence (nilai kepastian). Dengan sistem ini dapat membantu pihak yang berkaitan untuk meningkatkan fasilitas dalam berbagai kegiatan pelaporan Kamseltibcar Lantas.

As part of moving towards a sustainable production of diesel engines for heavy vehicle applications, the ability to predict casting defects has become ever so important. In order to model the solidification process for cast components correctly, it is of essence to know how the material will actually behave. To produce sound castings, often of complex geometry, the industry relies on various simulation software for the prediction and avoidance of defects. Thermophysical properties, such as density, play an important part in these simulations.Previous measurements of how the volume of liquid grey iron changes with temperature has been made with a conventional dilatometer. Measurements have also been made in the austenitic range, then on iron-carbon-silicon alloys with a carbon content lower than 1.5 wt%. Based on these measurements the density variations during solidification were calculated. The scope for this paper is to model the volume changes during solidification with the control volume finite difference method, using data from the density measurements.


<i>Abstract</i>.—Atlantic salmon <i>Salmo salar </i>smolts are stocked in the Penobscot River, Maine to supplement declining populations. Since 2000, approximately 550,000 hatchery smolts are annually released into the river, of which 32% of these (175,000) were marked with visual implant elastomer (VIE) tags indicating release time and location. Our study found that tag colors of adult returns were often misread due to confusion between green and yellow marks and between red and pink marks. Using data collected on mark readings in a controlled hatchery environment, we corrected for tag identification errors made in the field, thereby allowing adjustments to be made in the marked returns to accurately assess the number of returns from multiple stocking groups. When adult returns from multiple stocking groups were compared, significant differences were detected between stocking groups, including a three-fold difference between two of the stocking groups. Hence, a simple change in smolt stocking locations and times may be of value in the recovery of the Penobscot River salmon population.
