AbstractStreams draining the Cypress Hills support unique and understudied macroinvertebrate communities in Saskatchewan, Canada. Here, we report the discovery of a species of caddisfly new to the Cypress Hills and Saskatchewan,Neophylax splendensDenning (Trichoptera: Thremmatidae). Larvae were collected early in May 2012, and are found to enter pre-pupal diapause in mid-June until mid-September. Larvae were identified asN. splendensby morphological characters and verified with genetic analysis. Its occurrence strengthens the biogeographical link between the montane regions in British Columbia, Canada and Utah, United States of America with the southwest corner of Saskatchewan. This study highlights the importance of seasonal sampling, resolute species level identifications in biological surveys and the use of genetic analyses to obtain this level of identification.

The selection rice of resistant to pests S. oryzae can be done through the utilization of local paddy germplasm. The study aims to determine the level of resistance of local upland rice Aceh to against pest infestation S. oryzae. The results showed that the local paddy rice from upland Aceh has a level resistance from resistance until moderately to susceptible to pest infestations S. oryzae. The rice from varieties Depet classified in the category-resistant, while varieties Putih, Toa, and Bontok classified in the moderate category. Local rice upland Aceh from varieties Pulo Aceh and Tajuk classified in the category of moderate to susceptible to pest attack S. oryzae during storage rice. Results of correlation analysis showed that resistance rice local upland Aceh affected by moisture content (r = 0.864*; P<0.05). Results of correlation analysis showed that positive correlation non significant between resistance with characteristic dimensions of rice such as length (r = 0.106; P> 0.01), negative correlation non significant with wide (r = -0.339; P>0.01), and a positive correlation non significant with ratio (r = 0.167; P>0.01). The content of protein and moisture content of the rice had a positive correlation with the population of adult S. oryzae (moisture content: r = 0.928**; protein: r = 0.884** P<0.01), the percentage of perforated rice (moisture content: r = 0.872* P<0.05; protein: r = 0.945** P<0.01), and the percentage of rice powder (moisture content: r = 0.912**; protein: r = 0.951** P<0.01) during storage

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the most important crops commodity in Indonesia because it is the main staple for the people of Indonesia but currently,  in Indonesia, the production of rice is still not maximal so it can not meet the demand of Indonesian people for national food needs. Therefore, it is necessary for rice plants that have high production and tolerant to various stresses. Plant breeding  is one of the ways that can be done to increase the production of rice, one of which is the method of cross-recurring selection. Genetic diversity is a variation of characteristics that are inherited in the same species population. This study aims to obtain information about genetic diversity and agro-morphological characters of 50 genotypes rice derived from the recurrent selection. This research was conducted from August until December 2017 in Rawa Makmur Village, Bengkulu Province with the height of place from sea level ± 2 m. The study used a Completely Randomized Block Design (RAK) with 3 replications. The seeds used were 50 genotypes of rice from previous cross-selection results from Bugis/N-22 crossbreeds, Bugis/IR-7858-1, Sriwijaya/N-148, Sriwijaya/IR-7858-1. The results showed that the genetic diversity of rice is quite narrow to moderate, but there are some rice characters that have medium to high heritability value that was plant height, harvesting age, flowering age, the total number of tillers and panicle length, so that character can be used for the next generation rice selection. The genotypes produced by Bugis/IR-7858-1 crosses have panicle length, filled grain per panicle, and high grain weight/hill resulting in high yield potential.

The objective of this study was to obtain varieties with high yield along with proper morpho-physiological characters under drought condition. Eleven varieties of upland rice i.e., Gilirang, Situ Patenggang, Kalimutu, Aek Sibundong, Batutegi, Towuti, Sunggal, Danau Gaung, Way Apo Buru, Danau Tempe, and Situ Bagendit were characterized based on morphology, physiology, and yield. Non factorial Complete Randomized Block Design was used with three times repetition. Parameters measured were morphological characters, physiological characters, and yield components. Morphological characters measured were plant height, number and area of leaf, shoot dry biomass, tiller number, and total root length. Physiological characters measured were plant growth rate, net assimilation rate, and relative growth rate. Yield components measured were number and length of panicle, number of seeds per panicle, 1000 seeds weight, weights of seed per panicle, weights of seed per plot, and weights of seed per hectare. The results showed that Danau Tempe variety had better characters against drought stress compared to the other varieties with higher yields supported by high plant growth rate, relative growth rate, chlorophyll content and leaf area with low accumulation of proline content and short root length.   Keywords: drought, morphological character, upland rice variety, yield
