In recent years, sensory-integration therapy has emerged as one of the most popular treatments for aggressive behavior in children with different disorders. This article is devoted to an experimental study aimed at determining the effects of sensory-integration therapy on the aggressive behavior of children with multiple disabilities. Eighteen children participated in the study. The registration of the children's behavioral responses for 24 consecutive school days allowed the collection of evidence in support of the thesis in the study. The individual child’s frequency of aggressive behaviors in four domains was recording on 12 days while undergoing sensory-integrative therapy and 12 days without a treatment with sensory-integrative techniques. The following methods were used in the analysis of the results: Paired samples t-tests to test the four null hypotheses, a Shaprio-Wilk test for the assumption of normality, Cohen's d to determine the effect size attributable to the therapy, and descriptive statistics for the dependent variables. The statistical results indicated a high level of significance for the three variables: aggression towards property, physical aggression, and aggression toward self. The obtained average values for the three modules are evidence for the positive effects of the sensory-based therapy in children with emotional and behavioral problems. The fourth variable, verbal aggression did not show a statistically significant difference between the mean values before and after the sensory-based intervention.

A substantial body of evidence verifies that social-emotional learning (SEL) can be effectively taught in schools and can reduce the prevalence and impact of emotional and behavioral problems (EBP) among children and youth. Although the positive effects of SEL on individual student’s emotional, behavioral, and academic outcomes have been investigated in some detail in recent years, most studies have focused on evaluating programs aimed at directly training social and emotional competencies with a focus on the individual. Far less is known about the role of interpersonal group dynamics and systems functioning at the levels of the peer group, classroom, and school community. Drawing on Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory and Harris’s group socialization theory, this article reviews the literature on SEL and group dynamics to identify the ways in which existing SEL frameworks already encapsulate social group processes that contribute to the promotion of positive social-emotional development of children and youth. The goals of this contribution are twofold: (a) to document how EBP can be attenuated by addressing group-level processes that already exist within SEL practices and (b) to provide educators with specific SEL strategies to address group dynamics in their classrooms to optimize outcomes for all students, including students with EBP.

BACKGROUND: The recent epidemiological and experimental evidence suggest possible antioxidant effect of carbocysteine in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).AIM: To assess efficacy and tolerability of carbocysteine in the management of stable COPD.METHODS: We performed an observational, non-randomized, open study (a real life study) including 87 patients with stable COPD (group B and D by combined COPD assessment) divided in two groups, examined group (EG) and control group (CG). All participants were treated with the regular treatment of the stable disease, but in the participants of the EG carbocysteine 1,500 mg daily was added to their regular treatment during the period of two months. The study protocol included completion of the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and spirometric measurements at initial visit and at the end of the mentioned period.RESULTS: We found significantly lower mean value of the overall CAT score in the EG at the end of the study as compared to its mean value registered at initial visit (26.9 vs. 24.3; P = 0.007). In regard to certain CAT items, we found significantly lower values of the mean scores related to cough phlegm and sleep disturbances as compared to their mean scores at initial visit. In addition, the mean values of the overall CAT scores at initial visit and at the end of the study in controls were similar. In EG we found significantly higher mean value of the MEF 25-75 at the end of the study as compared to its mean value registered at initial visit (59.3% vs. 67.2%; P = 0.003). There was no significant difference in the mean values of other spirometric parameters at the end of the study as compared to their mean values at initial visit. In controls we registered similar values of all measured spirometric parameters at the end of the study as compared to their values registered at initial visit. Mild gastrointestinal manifestations were registered in 13.3% of the participants of the EG during the examined period.CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate positive effects of carbocysteine regarding the symptoms and lung function, as well as its good tolerability in the patients with stable COPD.

Abstract: Sensory Integration Therapy-Muscle Tonus-Clinical Observation Of Neuromotor Performance. Special need children such as down syndrome, autism and intellectual disability suffered from Sensory Integration Disorder (SID) will have an impact on the weakness of postural muscle tone. Muscle tone measurement of children with SID is different from other children without SID. Clinical observation of neuromotor performance (CONP) is used as of one of criteria of muscle muscle tone in children with SID. The study aimed at finding theeffect of sensory integration therapy towards muscle tone based on Score of Clinical Observation of Neuromotor Performance (CONP) at Mitra Ananda Surakarta. The study was designed as quasi experiment one group pretest posttest design. population of this study is client with SID at Mitra Ananda Surakarta , by total sampling there are a number of 12 samples. Paired t-test is applied for analizing data with SPSS version 17.0. Paired t-test portrayed p-value > 0.05 it means that there are no significant difference in muscletone, before and after treatment. Sensory integration therapy doesn’t affect muscle tone for shildren with SID Based on Score of Clinical Observation of Neuromotor Performance (CONP) at Mitra Ananda Surakarta

Aggressive behavior is one of the most common types of behavioral problems in almost all societies, so a pervasive field of research is used to work with that. This study tested the hypothesis that if art studding is associated with a decrease in aggression. Aggressive behavior was compared between art and industrial science groups. The study was a casual-comparative one and sixty university students selected with Purposive sampling and consideration of matching method in two groups. Aggression questionnaire (Buss & Perry, 1992) was used to assess aggression. Results in relation to investigated components namely verbal aggression, anger, hostel and aggression total score among art students and industrial science groups showed significant difference (p < .05) and this difference is that industrial science students report higher anger and aggression. But there was no significant difference in physical aggression between two groups (p ˃ .05). Mean of physical aggression scores in both groups were low and it could be considered as the worthless of physical aggression in university population. Studding art is found with less level of aggression and this may consider as an important implicit effect of art that could be expand in different areas and level of education.

Objective: This study examined the effects of Parent Management Training, Oregon (PMTO) model on parenting effectiveness and caregiver functioning. Method: Children in foster care with emotional and behavioral problems were randomized to PMTO ( n = 461) or services as usual ( n = 457) in a nonblinded study design. Using an intent-to-treat approach, analysis of covariance models tested the intervention’s overall effect and time interactions for parenting and caregiver functioning. Additional analyses were conducted to identify significant predictors of outcomes. Results: PMTO did not significantly affect parenting practices; however, positive effects were observed on caregiver functioning in mental health (odds ratio [ OR] = 2.01), substance use ( OR = 1.67), social supports ( OR = 2.37), and readiness for reunification ( OR = 1.64). While no time interactions were detected, several child, parent, and case characteristics were associated with improvements in 6-month outcomes. Conclusion: This study extends evidence on PMTO to biological families of children in foster care, including those with older youth.

Special Education (SpEd) teachers face difficulties in their roles of addressing issues in response to the demands of a rapidly changing society and profession. The study aimed to evaluate the programs and services of public special education schools in the Division of Cebu City, Philippines. The study employed a descriptive method using a modified researcher-made questionnaire. The study revealed that the six public special education schools were into special class programs or self-contained program.  Almost all the public SpEd schools served mental deviates and children with sensory disabilities. On the other hand, one SpEd school accommodated students with emotional and behavioral problems, multiple disabilities and other health-related problems. On the number of students with disabilities and their educational levels, there is a total of 444 students in the six public Sped schools, 374 elementary level and 70 in high school. Two hundred ten of the students are mentally deviated (56.1%) while almost 40% have sensory disabilities. Eleven have multiple disabilities, while a few have health-related problems, learning disabilities and emotional and behavioral problems. The study concluded that the public special education schools offer limited programs and services to cater the sensory disabilities, mental deviations, and other health-related disabilities. It is recommended that further investigations be conducted to augment the preliminary findings.
