The study was conducted at the farmers’ field of Karbi Anglong district of Assam to determine the effect of seed treatment with Azotobacter and Phosphorus Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB) on growth and yield of Toria (var. TS-36). The effect of biofertilizers was observed in combination with various levels of chemical fertilizers and FYM. Seed inoculation with Azotobacter and PSB @40g kg-1 seed + 75% NPK recorded maximum grain yield (11.15 qha-1) due to the higher plant height (88.52 cm), branches plant-1 (4.96), siliqua plant-1 (164.76), root growth (2.30g plant-1), seeds siliqua-1(10.97) and 1000-seed weight (4.82 g). The seed treatment with biofertilizers in combination with different levels of chemical fertilizers was found to be superior over recommended dose of NPK. Economics of cultivation in terms of net return of Rs.17605 & Rs. 17205 and B: C of 2.07 & 2.11 were considerably higher in treatment of Azotobacter + PSB + 50% NPK + FYM and Azotobacter + PSB + 75% NPK + FYM In which biofertilizer seed treatment was done as compared to recommended NPK (Rs. 14160 and 1.93, respectively). Application of Azotobacter and PSB in combination with 75 and 50% NPK and FYM @2 t ha-1 were found as viable and feasible option for getting higher yield and economic return from cultivation of toria in hill zone of Assam.

A field experiment was conducted at Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Gandhi Krishi vigyana Kendra, Bengaluru during kharif-2017 and 2018 to study the influence of zeolite application on growth and yield of finger millet crop. The pooled analysis showed significantly higher plant height recorded in the treatment which received zeolite 50 kg ha-1 +125 per cent RDF (Recommended dose of fertilizer)  which was at par with the treatment which received zeolite 50 kg ha-1 +100 per cent RDF in 30, 60, 90 and at Harvest stage. The number of tillers per hill (3.44), total dry matter production (41.67 g hill-1), number of fingers per ear head (5.95), straw yield (36.07 q ha-1) and grain yield (48.00 q ha-1) was recorded in the treatment received zeolite 50 kg ha-1 +125 per cent RDF which was at par with the treatment which received zeolite 50 kg ha-1 +100 per cent RDF in pooled analysis.

Three popular tomato varieties namely, Ratan, BARI tomato-3 and BARI tomato-6 were experimentally evaluated to identify the potential mulch on growth and yield, where the experiment consisted of four mulching treatments viz. water hyacinth, straw, am-ada leaf and banana leaf with a control (no mulch). The experiment was conducted under rainfed condition. In the experiment, mulching showed significant effect on growth, yield components and thus on the yield of tomato. Yield contributing characters were significantly higher when water hyacinth mulch was used. The variety Ratan produced the highest (53.74 t/ha) fruit yield, while BARI tomato-3 showed the lowest (48.89 t/ha) fruit yield. The combination of mulching and variety exhibited significant variation in some yield components and yield. The combination of water hyacinth and Ratan produced the maximum yield (62.16 t/ha) and thus the experiment revealed that water hyacinth and straw mulches have potentiality to increase the yield of tomato. A pot experiment was conducted in Kharif 2009 and 2010 to study the effect of potassium humate and chemical fertilizers on growth and yield attributes of rice (Oryza sativa L). Potassium humate was applied at the rate of 0, 5 and 10 mg/kg soil along with 100 and 75% recommended dose of fertilizers NPK (60, 30, 30 mg/kg) and 12.5 mg/kg zinc sulphate was also applied. Addition of 10 mg/kg PH along with 100% NPK fertilizers and 12.5 mg/kg zinc sulphate caused significant increase in plant height, number of tillers, panicle height, panicle length, test weight, straw yield and yield of rice as compared to 100 and 75% NPK alone. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the   effect of different levels of nitrogen and filter mud cake applications on vegetative growth and yield on tomato cultivar "Castle Rock". Place and  Duration of Study: Field experiments were conducted during two successive winter seasons 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 at the experimental farm, Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, University of Bakht Alruda, Ed Duiem, Sudan. Methodology: Treatments included three Nitrogen levels (0, 43 and 86 kg N/ ha) and three filter mud levels (0, 2 and 4 ton/ ha). Urea (46%N) was used as source of nitrogen and applied after fifteen days from sowing. Filter mud cake was applied one month before sowing. The treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Results: Results showed significant differences among N treatments in tomato vegetative growth, yield and yield components in the two seasons. The 86 kg N/ ha showed the highest vegetative growth yield and yield components compared to control. The filter mud application at both rates showed significant increase in the most vegetative growth parameters, yield and yield components compared to the control in the two seasons. The combination of N and filter mud resulted in significant increase in vegetative growth and yield components, the highest values were obtained by application of 86 kg/ha combined with 4 ton filter mud /ha. Conclusion: Considering the present study it can be concluded  that the application of 86 kg/ha combined with 4 ton filter mud /ha  is the best level in terms of maximum vegetative growth, yield and yield components of Castle Rock tomato cultivar.

A pot culture and a field experiment were conducted with cyanobacteria in presence and absence of different levels of urea to evaluate their effects on growth and yield of rice cv. BRRI Dhan 28, 29 and 36 during Boro season of 2007. The treatments were T1 (control), T2 (only cyanobacteria), T3 (recommended doses of urea - 60 kg N/ha), T4 (45% recommended doses of urea + cyanobacteria), T5 (65% recommended doses of urea + cyanobacteria) and T6 (85% recommended doses of urea + cyanobacteria).The maximum values for different growth, yield and yield components (plant height, number of productive tillers/hill, panicle length, number of grains/panicle, 1000-grain weight, and grain, straw and biological yield) were observed in BRRI Dhan 29 under T6 (85% recommended doses of urea + cyanobacteria) and lowest was observed in BRRI Dhan 28 under T1 (neither urea nor cyanobacteria). Uses of cyanobacteria increased the yield of Boro rice varieties and decreased the use of urea by 15-20%.

The experiment was conducted to perceive the effect of fungicidal seed treatment on growth and yield parameters of green gram cv. GM-3 with nine different fungicides. The results revealed that dry seed treatment with either mix formulation of carbendazim+mancozeb or thiophanate methyl or carbendazim @ 2.5 g kg-1 seeds is very effective in field to get maximum seed germination, better plant growth, root growth, yield parameters and yield. Seed germination was maximum in dry seed treatment with carbendazim + mancozeb (83.85%) which was statistically at par with thiophanate methyl (83.58%), carbendazim (82.53%) and captan (80.77%). Plant height was maximum in dry seed treatment in mixed formulation carbendazim+mancozeb (41.53 cm) which was statistically at par with thiophanate methyl (39.91 cm), carbendazim (39.67 cm) and captan (37.00 cm). Average numbers of pods plant-1 were maximum in dry seed treatment with carbendazim+mancozeb (12.33) which was statistically at par with thiophanate methyl (12.17), carbendazim (11.90), captan (11.85), thiram (11.58) and difenconazole (11.09). Average numbers of seeds pod-1 was maximum in dry seed treatment with carbendazim+mancozeb (7.58) which was statistically at par with thiophanate methyl (7.48), carbendazim (7.31), captan (7.28) and thiram (7.12). The pooled data of two years indicated that grain yield was significantly higher in dry seed treatment with carbendazim + mancozeb (818.40 kg ha-1) as compared to the rest but was statistically at par with thiophanate methyl (790.73 kg ha-1) and carbendazim (771.35 kg ha-1) followed by all the other treatments.

The experiment was conducted in the Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from October 2005 to December 2005 to study the effect of different levels of nitrogen and mulching on the growth and yield of Chinese cabbage. The tallest Chinese cabbage plant and spread of plant (43.12cm and 64.43cm) was recorded in 250kg N/ha and the shortest (36.15cm and 48.38cm) was recorded in 0 kg N/ha. The longest duration to start head formation (46.80 days) was recorded in 0 kg N/ha and the shortest (40.96 days) was recorded in 250 kg N/ha. The highest marketable yield per hectare of Chinese cabbage (120.06 ton) was recorded in 250 kg N/ha and the lowest yield (67.90 ton) was recorded in 0 kg N/ha. The highest Chinese cabbage plant, spread of plant (44.50cm, 58.28cm) during harvest period was recorded in black polythene mulch and the shortest plant and spread of plant (37.60cm and 49.58cm) was recorded in no mulch i.e. control. The highest days to start of head formation of Chinese cabbage (45.37) was recorded in no mulch and the lowest days (41.17) were recorded in black polythene mulch. The highest marketable yield per hectare of Chinese cabbage (123.27 ton) was recorded in black polythene mulch and the lowest yield (76.51 ton) was recorded in no mulch. In each and every case maximum growth and yield contributing characters and yield was observed in 250 kg N/ha and black polythene mulch and the reverse result was recorded in control condition i.e. no nitrogen and no mulch.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/pa.v20i1-2.16845 Progress.
