High prevalences of liver neoplasms have been found in English sole (Parophrys vetulus) from urban waterways of Puget Sound, Washington. Although the etiology of these neoplasms is not known, evidence suggests that chemical contaminants may be the causative agents. Electron microscopy studies were undertaken to investigate subcellular structures of hepatocellular carcinomas from these fish.English sole were collected by otter trawl from several urban waterways of Puget Sound, Washington State. Grossly visible liver nodules were excised from freshly killed fish and divided for light and electron microscopy. Tissues for light microscopy were processed by standard histological procedures, and stained with Hematoyxlin and Eosin.
