The purpose of this article is to indicate the possibilities of GIS software in the subject of logistics and transport. Optimal locations for the construction of a logistics center in the neighborhood of the expressway S7 (section Ostróda - Elbląg) were determined. Using the GIS tools as well as geoinformation analyzes, a map was created depicting the results obtained. For the purpose of conducting the analysis, only selected criteria were taken into account, i.e. the distance from express, national, provincial and poviat roads, as well as distances from cities: Gdańsk, Olsztyn and Elbląg. The data was collected from available sources (Central Geodetic and Cartographic Documentation Center and OpenStreetMap).

The present article intends to present a model for the documentation and registry used in the diagnosis and intervention stages in conservation and restoration (C&R) of a set of twelve works by Adriano de Sousa Lopes, from the collection of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon (FBAUL). To this end, a free and open access geographic information system (GIS) software called QGIS® was used. During the analysis, several vector maps were produced, both for diagnosis and for conservation and restoration treatments (CR), namely the microcracks network, areas of loss, consolidation areas, textile microsurgery and chemical cleaning. The quantitative results obtained from the spatial analyses of the pictorial surfaces were recorded in the GIS database. Finally, it was verified that the technical study of works with the QGIS(R) program contemplates a spatial perception of the works of art for evidencing, in a systematic and integrated way, the phenomena of alteration of the pieces under analysis.

A model for more accurately representing the distribution of population is currently under development using some of the functionality of the Arc/Info GIS software. Included are factors for settlement pattern, topography and the presence of water bodies. The model is tested on County Antrim in Northern Ireland and the value of traditional choropleth mapping assessed in comparison with the output from the model.

Abstract The activities in name of tourist development in Wodzislaw poviat are the reason to evaluate the tourist land development. The evaluation was prepared on the basis of selected indexes characterizing the level of tourist infrastructure development. It considered: the number of lodgings per km2, the number of restaurants per km2, the amount of additional attractions per km2 and the density of tourist tracks. This database was analyzed by the use of GIS tools. Using GIS software allowed working with large databases and provided the possibility to create a graphic representation of the results. The level of tourist land development is diversified and depends on it function. The cities with the best developed tourist infrastructure are Wodzislaw Slaski, Radlin, Pszow, Rydultowy and town in Odra Valley: Olza, Bukow and Nieboczowy. Pszow, Gorzyce and Godow commons have the biggest density of tourist tracks.

This paper presents a novel technique based on Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) for enhancing the performance of multiline transmission network to reduce congestion in transmission line to huge level. Optimal location selection of IPFC is done using subtracting line utilization factor (SLUF) and CSA-based optimal tuning. The multi objective function consists of real power loss, security margin, bus voltage limit violation and capacity of installed IPFC. The multi objective function is tuned by CSA and the optimal location for minimizing transmission line congestion is obtained. The simulation is performed using MATLAB for IEEE 30-bus test system. The performance of CSA has been considered for various loading conditions. Results shows that the proposed CSA technique performs better by optimal location of IPFC while maintaining power system performance
