Context: Self-compassion and self-esteem are positive personality traits that save us during life imperfection, so both can play a vital role in self-regulating behaviors to decrease suicidal ideation. Aim:  Explore the relationship between self-compassion, self-esteem, and suicidal ideation among a cohort of university students. Methods: Cross-sectional research design was used. This study was conducted at Al Delta University for Science and Technology- College of Engineering and Oral and Dental Medicine, Dhakahlia Governorate, Egypt. A convenient sample of 249 undergraduate university students was recruited. Self-Administered Questionnaire, Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), The Self-Compassion Scale-Short Form (SCS-SF), and The Suicidal Behavior Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R). Results: 14% of the studied sample reported that they frequently have suicidal thoughts, while 28.12% reported that they sometimes have a suicidal attempt. Suicidal behavior was inversely and highly significantly correlated with self-esteem (P-value < 0.03), and also self-compassion was inversely and significantly related to suicidal behavior (P-value < 0.02). In contrast, self-compassion and self-esteem were positively and highly significantly correlated (P-value <0.001). Additionally, the higher mean score for having self-esteem and self-compassion was among students who had a sleep regularly (18.38±9.94 and13.8±3.10 respectively), and the students who are doing physical activities had the highest mean score (26.88±7.06 and 21.24±11.1 respectively) with statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Less than half of the students had sometimes and frequently at other times thinking of suicide.  Self-esteem and self-compassion were significantly correlated, and suicidal behavior was significantly affected by students' self-esteem and self-compassion. The supportive resources through academic guidance and psychological counseling units that are staffed and supervised by psychologists, activating student extracurricular activities and sports clubs, will help enhance self-esteem and self-compassion and consequently minimize suicidal behaviors.

The study is conducted on 235 college and university students residing and studying in Kolkata, by using 2 scales-Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale (RSES) and Adult suicidal ideation questionnaire Form HS (ASIQ) along with an information schedule. Mean, Standard Deviation, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, and 2 × 2 factorial ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The results revealed that male and verbally bullied participants have obtained higher scores in suicidal ideation, female and verbally non-bullied respondents showed high self-esteem scores. Self-esteem scores of both male and female participants, as well as verbally bullied and verbally non-bullied participants were found to have a significant negative correlation with suicidal ideation. Gender and verbal bullying showed a significant impact on suicidal ideation. However, gender and verbal bullying showed no interaction impact on self-esteem and suicidal ideation.

The research examined the influence of self- esteem and depression on suicidal ideation among university students. The research was carried out among university students to measure the influence of self- esteem and depression on suicidal ideation. Two hundred and fifty one participants [251] were sampled from a university for the purpose of this research. The instrument used for this research was questionnaire. The statistical methods used were t-test and one way ANOVA. Four hypotheses were tested and the result revealed: Students with high self-esteem [M =12.7877] significantly reported lower suicidal ideation than those with low self- esteem [M =18.5905], df [249] = -6.043, p <.01.The result implies that self-esteem influenced suicidal ideation among students. The results also shows that students with low depression [M = 12.8188] significantly reported lower suicidal ideation than those with high depression [M = 19.5222], df [248] = 6.903, p<.01. The result implies that depression influenced suicidal ideation among students. Likewise the result shows that female students [M =16.1301] were not significantly different from male students [M = 14.3359], df [249] =1.780, p>.05. The result implies that there is no gender difference in suicidal ideation among students. However students in 100 level of study [M =15.3469] were not significantly different in suicidal ideation compared to those in 200[M =14.7375], 300[M =14.5000], 400[M = 15.8036] and 500[M = 19.1000] levels of study. The result means that the level of study has no significant influence on suicidal ideation among students F[4,246] =0.846; p>.05.

Although patients of cosmetic surgery are increasingly ethnically diverse, previous studies have not examined ethnic differences in attitudinal dispositions toward cosmetic surgery. In the present study, 751 British female university students from three ethnic groups (Caucasians, South Asians, and African Caribbeans) completed measures of acceptance of cosmetic surgery, body appreciation, self-esteem, and demographic variables. Initial between-group analyses showed that Caucasians had lower body appreciation and self-esteem than Asian and African Caribbean participants. Importantly, Caucasians had higher acceptance of cosmetic surgery than their ethnic minority counterparts, even after controlling for body appreciation, self-esteem, age, and body mass index. Further analyses showed that ethnicity accounted for a small proportion of the variance in acceptance of cosmetic surgery, with body appreciation and self-esteem emerging as stronger predictors. Possible reasons for ethnic differences in acceptance of cosmetic surgery are discussed in Conclusion.

Kata kunci: faktor proteksi, harga diri, ide bunuh diri, dan pola asuh orangtua   SELF-SELF-PRICE AND PARENT'S PATTERN AS SELF-KILLING IDEAS PROTECTIVE FACTORS   ABSTRACT Teenagers who do not cope well under pressure will lead them to emotional instability and tend to perform a variety of malicious behavior or commit to suicide.
