The existing tools for assessing the effectiveness of educational programs differ in the degree of effectiveness, applicability, and costs. The self-assessment method, which involves the determination of the level of expression of various qualities by students of educational programs before and after graduation. The method of assessing students' own competencies has significant limitations associated with social desirability. Nevertheless, the article analyzes the possibilities of using this method to assess the effectiveness of corporate educational programs. The results of using the self-assessment method to assess the effectiveness of corporate educational programs conducted in large organizations are presented. The possibilities and limitations of using various kinds of criteria for evaluating themselves by listeners are substantiated. The conclusion is made about the possibility of using the self-assessment method in the case of the focus of educational programs on the development of meta-competencies of managers. The article provides data on the assessment of learning outcomes, discusses the potential reasons for the differences obtained in the framework of projects, as well as the possibilities and limitations of using the self-assessment method to assess the educational effect of corporate training programs.

The purpose of the article is to determine the peculiarities of using of teaching elements of research-based training at the Institute of Human Sciences of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University. Based on the focus group methodology, the authors identify the key methodological characteristics of research-based training, which have been put into basis of analysis of educational programs for the purpose of determining the application of tasks that contribute to the development of research skills of students. The study used a method of focus group. Its purpose was to obtain the necessary information from the participants to describe the methodological basis and justification of methods, forms, indicators, etc. of research-based training system among people who are competent, have experience in this field. After that, the method of "theoretical sampling" was used, which enabled to formulate generalized characteristics according to the results of focus groups. The practical value of the study is determination of the methodological characteristics of research-based training which is the basis for the application of tasks by university teachers that promote the development of research competence of students. The research is one of the first attempts to determine the methodological characteristics of research-based training in Ukraine.

The theory of self-efficacy has been shown to be a contributing factor to the success of adult learners’ in educational programs that utilize information communication technologies, specifically online learning. The determination of online learning self-efficacy is measured with the Tennessee Online Instruction Scale that measures self-efficacy beliefs using three factors of (1) internet; (2) collaborative/online learning, and (3) personal beliefs. It is the purpose of this chapter to help readers understand and use these findings that can contribute to the overall success of adult learners in an online environment. Included are summary results from Carol Carter’s 2004 dissertation on self-efficacy beliefs among college students.

On the occasion of observing International Museum Day, Croatian museums carry out the Educational Museum Action (EMA) by conducting educational activities - most often workshops, guided tours and didactic exhibitions - on a specific topic set by a museum-leader. Ethnographic museums in Croatia have participated in the Action from the very beginning; in 2000 and 2010, Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb was the leader of the Educational Museum Action. This paper presents a research of EMA features as an educational museum action conducted by analysis of printed booklets as the Action program publications and by responses of museum experts who took part in the organization and implementation of the Action, obtained as a result of a survey. The research points out the discrepancy between the name and features of the organized activity, upon which a state and potentials of the Action development, as well as the museum’s educational activities have been questioned. Curators of ethnographic collections and museum educators in Croatian ethnographic museums, having participated in the research, gave their contribution to determination of issues related to museum educational programs and to determination of their development potentials.

Introduction. This paper is concerned with the conditions and mechanisms necessary to boost the process of self-determination, and promote self-determination as an educational outcome in the undergraduate degree programs. Materials and Methods. The research employed the method of theoretical analysis and synthesis of the literature in the field of philosophy, psychology, and pedagogy on the topic of self-determination, and the modeling method to describe the research results. Results of research. The study – provides a detailed description of the conditions under which self-determination is promoted in the undergraduate degree programs; – demonstrates in which educational programs (linear or nonlinear), self-determination as educational outcome is hardly possible to achieve and why; – presents methodological recommendations for the development of educational programs aimed at self-determination of students. Conclusion. The conclusion of the paper indicates practical value and prospects. The main contribution of the paper lies in the critical analysis of existing research on self-determination, the synthesis of various theoretical works for the creation of a two-circuit model of self-determination, and the integration of individualization practices into this process. Keywords: self-determination, educational programs, positioning, activities, individualization practices, subjectivity.

It is now possible to determine proper motions of high-velocity objects in such a way as to obtain with some accuracy the velocity vector relevant to the Sun. If a potential field of the Galaxy is assumed, one can compute an actual orbit. A determination of the velocity of the globular clusterωCentauri has recently been completed at Greenwich, and it is found that the orbit is strongly retrograde in the Galaxy. Similar calculations may be made, though with less certainty, in the case of RR Lyrae variable stars.

Using the new reductions of the IUE light curves by Sonneborn et al. (1997) and an extensive set of HST images of SN 1987A we have repeated and improved Panagia et al. (1991) analysis to obtain a better determination of the distance to the supernova. In this way we have derived an absolute size of the ringRabs= (6.23 ± 0.08) x 1017cm and an angular sizeR″ = 808 ± 17 mas, which give a distance to the supernovad(SN1987A) = 51.4 ± 1.2 kpc and a distance modulusm–M(SN1987A) = 18.55 ± 0.05. Allowing for a displacement of SN 1987A position relative to the LMC center, the distance to the barycenter of the Large Magellanic Cloud is also estimated to bed(LMC) = 52.0±1.3 kpc, which corresponds to a distance modulus ofm–M(LMC) = 18.58±0.05.
