This year marks 85 years of the National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute” (National Research University "MPEI”). The department of engineering drawing was the first among other departments in the MEI, for which it is also the anniversary year. The organizer and the first head of this department from 1930 to 1962 was Eugeniy A. Glazunov - a prominent scientist and educator, engineer and organizer, who celebrates 125 years. At the beginning of 1930 the Department of Electrical Engineering Higher Technical School, which earlier E.A. Glazunov graduated, has been transformed into the Moscow Higher School of Energy, which became soon the Moscow Energy Institute. Eugeniy Glazunov was appointed to the head of the department of descriptive geometry and drawing in MPEI. (Some time this department was called "Technical graphics"). His name is undeservedly rarely mentioned in textbooks and other literature in applied geometry and graphics. But Eugeniy Glazunov was very authoritative in the circle geometry and graphics, and among the heads of departments he was one of the initiators and leaders of the Moscow seminar on descriptive geometry, who published his works, and the head of the department, who generously shared teaching materials with his related institution. But E.A. Glazunov had relatively few publications compared with present time. But there were very capital works. One of them was written in conjunction with the N.F. Chetverukhin and is called "Axonometry." But it was not only an outstanding organizer and teacher, but also a magnitude engineer — designer and practitioner in the field of electrical engineering. He was a team-mate, who developed and marketed the first installation, substation and network of well-known Russian electrification plan — the plan for electrification. Based on his experience and under his leadership tasks on the engineering drawing based on electrical products and parts were improved, and drawing ceased to be exclusively machine-building. His merits in the development of engineering education and his geometry and graphic component were so significant that he was awarded the title of professorship of Higher Attestation Commission without doctoral dissertation. He was also one of the highest awards of that time, the Order of Lenin (1951).

The issues of organizing an expert survey and carrying out statistical processing and analysis of the results are considered. The experts are the fifth-year students undergoing training at the Department of Management and Informatics «Moscow Power Engineering Institute» of the National Research University. The goal of the survey is revealing the disciplines that are most useful for employment in their specialty. We discuss the special features of the survey and a concept of «work in the specialty», with due regard for statistical reliability of the results. Data of written questionnaire gained in 2018 were processed and analyzed using cluster analysis (construction of dendrograms and application of the K-means method) and non-parametric statistical criteria (Friedman and Mann – Whitney – Wilcoxon). Data processing is implemented in the program STATISTICA. The analysis is carried out to reveal significant differences between the educational courses and assess the degree of consistency of the respondents to divide them into clusters that unite the students with similar judgments. Data analysis revealed that experts’ estimates in 2018 are in fairly good agreement with the estimates of previous studies; among the respondents there are three coalitions corresponding to the training modules «Software», «Management Theory», «Data Analysis»; the overall consistency of students in the two groups is very low (and, on the contrary, high in the identified clusters); grades are homogeneous and do not depend on training groups (and employment – unemployment of the respondents). The obtained results allow us to address a number of important questions regarding the ways of improving the educational process, e.g., to optimize yearly course hours for different educational modules.

This paper reflects on, and examines some issues sidelined during the writing of a doctoral dissertation that was completed at the end of 2011. The study investigated the potential of the mobile phone as a pedagogic tool in a senior secondary technical school. While the methods employed for data collection and analysis were conventional and uncontentious, a certain boldness and imaginative engagement with the empirical findings was deemed necessary in order generate a thesis that was both sufficiently substantial and original. However, an underlying tension operated wherein fundamentally philosophical impulses of the researcher had to be balanced against simultaneously present institutional expectations and practical imperatives. In particular, some key remarks of Heidegger concerning technology and thinking, vied for attention and prominence within the research project agenda. An articulation and elaboration of this underlying tension between the philosophical and the practical only became possible after the work was completed. The return and manifestation of these marginalised and latent issues are here given closer attention.

Purpose of the research. The introduction of a distance education system in the form of an electronic educational environment in modern conditions requires new approaches to increasing the interest of students in learning the material. This is especially true for general education subjects. One of the ways to improve the efficiency of learning disciplines is to link theory with practice. In addition, traditional practical tasks on subjects of the general education cycle do not fully take into account the application of the acquired knowledge in the future professional activity of students. Therefore, the purpose of this work is to study the methodology and develop solutions to tasks that most fully take into account the practical orientation of the studied subjects of the general education cycle in technical universities. Materials and methods. As the object of research, the course of descriptive geometry was chosen as the most difficult subject for students of the first year of higher educational institutions of technical direction. Based on the analysis of the structure of the discipline “descriptive geometry and engineering graphics", the authors propose to link the practical part of the course to a specific technical device. Then, using the accepted assumptions, theoretical positions and goals of studying descriptive geometry, we need to develop a set of interrelated tasks that describe the design of a technical device and the interaction of its elements, allowing you to develop the initial skills of the student with mechanical drawings manually, as well as through computer programs both standard and developed by lecturers of the Department “Descriptive Geometry and Graphics " of the Penza State University of Architecture and Construction. Results. The article presents the results of applying the practical orientation of the theoretical provisions of descriptive geometry for students studying in the direction of “Operation of transport and technological machines and complexes" of the Penza State University of Architecture and Construction. As a visual technical device, the liquid supply regulator, used in automotive equipment is selected. Essentially practical orientation is to solve three interrelated problems to determine controller parameters by the methods of descriptive geometry: relative position of subassemblies of the regulator (integrated positional task); determination of the actual values of the elements of the regulator (how to convert a drawing); characterization of the body of the regulator for creation of the flask when casting (intersection of the surfaces and scan one of the bodies coated with line-crossing). The results of solving the tasks are presented in the form of calculation and graphic works and laid out in the electronic environment of distance learning, as the final report documents for the study of the main sections of the course of descriptive geometry. The lecturer places examples of calculation and graphic works’ implementation in the electronic educational environment, features of formation of initial skills for drawing and reading machine-building drawings, and students upload their decisions to the page of the corresponding course in stages or the work performed as a whole.Conclusion. In the final part of the article, conclusions are formulated based on the results of the research, made by the authors. The conclusions reflect the ways to achieve the goals of studying descriptive geometry using computer technologies and e-education. In addition, the uniqueness and results of using the proposed method in a technical University are shown.

The specifics of holding an international scientific conference under pandemic conditions in the online format, and the importance of the conference topic are described. The following opportunities are pointed out as advantages of the online format: the possibility to hold a mass event during the pandemic, participation of both Russian and foreign speakers; recording the conference meetings with subsequently distributing the records to conference participants and interested persons, and the most comfortable interaction of participant scientists. The most significant drawback of holding a conference in this format is insufficient awareness about operation of the Cisco Webex computer program.

The study is devoted to the first two decades of the existence of the Khabarovsk Technical Railway School. It was created during the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway, and is intended to provide personnel for its eastern section — the Ussuri Railway. At present, the legal successor of the school is the Khabarovsk Technical School of Railway Transport. The problems of recruiting the commanding staff before 1917 are outlined, brief biographies of the first three heads of the school, who played a huge role in its formation, are given. Separately, the issues of staffing the teaching corps, which consisted of staff teachers and engineers involved in production, mainly from the Ussuriysk railway, were considered. The conditions for the recruitment of students and the order of their training are given; a brief description of the social composition of students. A detailed list of taught disciplines is shown, including not only general education, but also special subjects. The practical orientation of the work of the educational institution, which graduated mid-level specialists for the track and traction departments, is noted. The system of educational work in the school, which was based on Orthodoxy, has been investigated. Great importance was attached to the material support of the educational process: the school had a beautiful two-story building for its time.
