Ionic conductivity of the stratosphere is one of the important parameters for understanding the electrical state of the region. This parameter is sensitive to the presence of aerosols and thus, aerosol loading on the stratosphere has a bearing on the conductivity. Preliminary efforts were made to study the behaviour of stratospheric ion conductivity and its variation under enhanced aerosol conditions by making use of an Ion-aerosol model. The aerosol ion-small ion recombination coefficient obtained from the model determines the extent to which aerosols can alter the conductivity of the stratosphere. This necessitates the requirement of experimental measurements of attachment and recombination coefficient along with simultaneously measured aerosol density to have the proper information on electrical conductivity of the region.

Pt dispersion in Pr2NiO4 based oxides formed compressed strain and electrical conductivity decreases, however, the oxide ion conductivity increases by the compressed strain due to the decreased hole and the increased interstitial oxygen concentration.

AbstractLithium aluminum titanium phosphate (LATP) is known to have a high Li-ion conductivity and is therefore a potential candidate as a solid electrolyte. Via sol-gel route, it is already possible to prepare the material at laboratory scale in high purity and with a maximum Li-ion conductivity in the order of 1·10−3 s/cm at room temperature. However, for potential use in a commercial, battery-cell upscaling of the synthesis is required. As a first step towards this goal, we investigated whether the sol-gel route is tolerant against possible deviations in the concentration of the precursors. In order to establish a possible process window for sintering, the temperature interval from 800 °C to 1100 °C and holding times of 10 to 480 min were evaluated. The resulting phase compositions and crystal structures were examined by X-ray diffraction. Impedance spectroscopy was performed to determine the electrical properties. The microstructure of sintered pellets was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and correlated to both density and ionic conductivity. It is shown that the initial concentration of the precursors strongly influences the formation of secondary phases like AlPO4 and LiTiOPO4, which in turn have an influence on ionic conductivity, densification behavior, and microstructure evolution.

In the present paper an account is given of experimental measurements on the electrical conductivity of thin films of mercury prepared by evaporative deposition in a high vacuum according to the technique described in previous papers (Lovell 1936; Appleyard and Lovell 1937). In a brief preliminary note (Appleyard 1937) we have pointed out that the results for mercury are very different from those for the alkali metals, and that in particular a considerable thickness of mercury must be deposited on the pyrex surface before conductivity begins. We have since confirmed and extended these observations, obtained accurate absolute values for the thickness of the films, investigated their stability, and made an extended study of their temperature coefficients after heat treatment. A comparison with the results of previous workers is given later.

The fine-mode aerosol optical depth (AODf) is an important parameter for the environment and climate change study, which mainly represents the anthropogenic aerosols component. The Polarization and Anisotropy of Reflectances for Atmospheric Science coupled with Observations from a Lidar (PARASOL) instrument can detect polarized signal from multi-angle observation and the polarized signal mainly comes from the radiation contribution of the fine-mode aerosols, which provides an opportunity to obtain AODf directly. However, the currently operational algorithm of Laboratoire d’Optique Atmosphérique (LOA) has a poor AODf retrieval accuracy over East China on high aerosol loading days. This study focused on solving this issue and proposed a grouped residual error sorting (GRES) method to determine the optimal aerosol model in AODf retrieval using the traditional look-up table (LUT) approach and then the AODf retrieval accuracy over East China was improved. The comparisons between the GRES retrieved and the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) ground-based AODf at Beijing, Xianghe, Taihu and Hong_Kong_PolyU sites produced high correlation coefficients (r) of 0.900, 0.933, 0.957 and 0.968, respectively. The comparisons of the GRES retrieved AODf and PARASOL AODf product with those of the AERONET observations produced a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.054 versus 0.104 on high aerosol loading days (AERONET mean AODf at 865 nm = 0.283). An application using the GRES method for total AOD (AODt) retrieval also showed a good expandability for multi-angle aerosol retrieval of this method.
