We present findings from the first survey of shallow-water amphipods conducted along the Black Sea coast in Georgia. Eight species from five families have been identified, all but one being new for the Georgian fauna. Although most are usual inhabitants of the Black and Mediterranean seas, we report the first record of the invader Melita nitida in this region. This North American species was previously known in Europe only from the Atlantic and Baltic coasts. Its finding in the Black Sea implies either jump dispersal, or a more widespread, but cryptic distribution. Given that the total number of species reported in Georgia is lower than in the other countries neighbouring the Black Sea, we anticipate the discovery of new taxa in future surveys. Our study highlights the importance of faunistic exploration in previously overlooked regions for detecting potentially cryptic invasions and corroborating biogeographical patterns.

Necropolis Kyz-Aul is located on the Black Sea coast, 1 km to the south-east of the village. Yakovenkovo. In 1930, 1979–1983, 1985, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2005–2006, 2015–2017, he was investigated by Yu. Martti, O. Chevelev, N. Sudarev and N. Fedoseev. Separate burials date back to the II–I BC, the burial of the I–III AD the most recent burials, apparently, were committed in the IV–V AD. In the VI – third quarter of the VII century AD on the territory of the already abandoned necropolis, a small settlement was located. Its cultural stratum is traced on all sites that have been followed in the last decade. As living quarters, the looted crypts of the 1st–3rd centuries AD were adapted, consisting of one or two funerary cells and built of massive blocks of limestone (№ 6, 7, 9, 10). With exception of the crypts of the poorly preserved pit of the semidugout (?) other residential and household buildings on the necropolis could not be fixed. One child burial also belongs to the same period. The most well-preserved living room in the crypt number 6. In one of its funerary cells housed five household pits and heating devices, including a fireplace, reminiscent of the design of the fireplace. In the other crypts, the interior details of the “underground” dwellings have not been preserved. In the “Khazar” time burial chamber crypts were adapted for the maintenance of small cattle. The time of the early Byzantine settlement on the necropolis dates numerous finds of amphorae. The upper date was determined thanks to the coin of 674 Constantine IV Pogonat. In addition, a ring with the image of an archangel was found, an analogy of which is known in the burial complexes of the 7th century. Unfortunately, the area and location of the necropolis of this settlement is not yet established. Cannot be reconstructed and its layout. It is difficult to reconstruct the interior of the “underground” dwellings themselves, since the crypts were reused in the “Khazar” period. In addition, no other settlements of this time were found on the ancient necropolises of the Kerch Peninsula

During a study of fauna associated with a shallow-water Zostera (Zosterella) noltei bed from the southern part of the Romanian Black Sea coast, among the identified material collected in 2015, a syllid polychaete belonging to the subfamily Exogoninae, Sphaerosyllis taylori Perkins, 1981, represents a new record for the Black Sea. Re-examination of available specimens previously identified as Sphaerosyllis bulbosa Southern, 1914 revealed that they belong to an unknown species, described herein as Sphaerosyllis pontica sp. nov. The new species is characterized by the median antenna inserted more posteriorly than the lateral antennae, dorsal cirri with bulbous bases and very short tips, shorter than the parapodial lobes, dorsal cirri absent on chaetiger 2, parapodial glands with fibrillar material from chaetiger 4 onwards, compound chaetae with short blades and smooth shafts, anterior parapodia with two aciculae each, one straight and one with bent tip. Descriptions of both species are provided together with a key to all Sphaerosyllis species known from the Black Sea.

The article is devoted to the generalization of the existing information concerning dinoflagellates of the Crimea. A list of dinoflagellate species of continental waters of the peninsula and the Crimean coast (Black and Azov seas) of Ukraine was compiled. It is based on the analysis of literature and original data obtained in 1987, 1992-1993 and 2011 in the Black Sea. The list of dinoflagellata species of Crimea includes 196 species (206 infraspecific taxa) belonging to 64 genera, 36 families, 15 orders and 3 classes. Eighteen species have been recorded in the fresh and salt water bodies and mud volcanoes of the least studied continental part of Crimea; half of them were also found in marine waters. Dinoflagellates of the Azov coast of Crimea and the Kerch Strait are similar in number of species, but differ significantly in composition (26 and 31 species, respectively; only 13 (25%) of them are common). The greatest number of species of dinoflagellates found on the Black Sea coast of Crimea. It is almost half of all species known for the Black Sea (196 and 447, respectively). To compare the species richness of dinoflagellates from different regions of the Crimea, survey data covering all areas in a short period of time are of great importance. A total of 74 species of dinoflagellates belonging to 3 classes, 11 orders, 22 families and 30 genera were found off the coast of Crimea. The most species-rich genera are Protoperidinium Bergh (17), Dinophysis Ehrenb. (8), Gymnodinium F.Stein (7) and Prorocentrum Ehrenb. (6). Based on the analysis of original and literature data and the criterion of similarity of the species composition of Crimean dinoflagellates, it’s division into five algofloristic regions is proposed: the western Black Sea coast of Crimea (from Karkinitsky Bay to Cape Aya); southeastern (from Ayia to Takil), Kerch Strait, Azov coast of Crimea and land (which, in turn, is divided into steppe and mountainous Crimean regions). It is in compliance with the algofloristic zoning of Ukraine.

Abstract Romania is one of the most diverse countries for Anostraca in Europe. The Romanian Plain and the Black Sea coast are recognized as the most species-rich areas and harbour a high concentration of saline lakes and ponds. A short survey of ponds and small lakes was carried out in these areas of Romania during March 2019, with the aim of improving the knowledge of Anostraca diversity and distribution. Two species of Anostraca were found: Chirocephalus diaphanus romanicus Stoicescu, 1992, in Argeş County, and Branchinectella media (Schmankewitsch, 1873), in Constanţa County. The record of B. media is the first for Romania, increasing the known diversity of Anostraca to 17 species. This discovery highlights the high diversity of large Branchiopoda in the country.

AbstractInocutis tamaricis is a lignicolous basidiomycete associated exclusively with Tamarix species. The first Romanian record of this species is reported from Constanţa city near the Black Sea coast where it was detected on Tamarix tetrandra. We noticed that in pure culture it forms swollen hyphae in the aerial mycelium, which have not been reported so far for I. tamaricis.

Currently, several tens of subsea pipelines are in operation on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus – sea water intakes and wastewater outlets. Wastewater outlets are divided into shallow water (up to 5 m), deep water (up to 10 m) and abyssal water (over 25 m) outlets depending on the depth of the outlet head location. Shallow water outlets are used to drain rain waters into the sea, while deep and abyssal water outlets are designed to dump purified wastewater from sewage purification plants. Most of the existing subsea pipelines were built in the 60s-80s of the 20th century and are now physically significantly worn out, partially destroyed or simply decommissioned. The pollution of the marine environment off the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus with household wastewater poses a serious threat to the local population and numerous tourists. Periodic dumping of unpurified wastewater and pipeline accidents require regular monitoring of the coastal waters. At the same time, it is possible to significantly reduce the risk of accidents on pipelines already at the design stage. In particular, a brief analysis of the natural conditions of the Russian shelf of the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus and the accident rate of subsea pipelines makes it possible to recommend the use of steel pipes in the construction of communal systems of marine water supply and sewerage. The use of plastic pipes is permissible only at depths of more than 25 m. In the upper shelf zone, the construction of completely plastic submarine pipelines is reasonable only if they are properly buried in the layer of loose bottom sediments or in the bedrock of the bench. Additionally, we can recommend application of measures to compensate for linear temperature deformations of the pipes.

Typical coastal elements of limans and lagoons are barriers, that separate limanic aquatories from a Seas. On limanic shores structure of the Black Sea sand barriers represented three longitudinal landscape “zones”: sea beach (“frontal”), dune-aeolian and limanic (“back of the barrier”). They closely interactive between themselves under influence of lithodynamical exchanges of sediment. General tendency of the barriers dynamics is displacement to Land direction.

A new species of the genus Cimmerites Jeannel, 1928, C. maximovitchi sp. nov., is described from the Akhunskaya Cave and Labirintovaya Cave, both located in the Akhun Karst Massif on the Black Sea Coast of the West Caucasus (Krasnodar Territory, Russia). The new species is rather isolated within the genus Cimmerites and occupies an intermediate position between species related to C. kryzhanovskii Belousov, 1998 and species close to C. vagabundus Belousov, 1998. Though both C. maximovitchi sp. nov. and C. kryzhanovskii are still known only from caves, these species are quite similar in their life form to other members of the genus which are all true endogean species.
