The dimensioning is a time-consuming job in engineering drawing. So, it introduced an automatic dimensioning method to improve the efficiency of drawing dimensioning. Firstly, it used the functions which provided by Pro/Engineer to extract the parts dimension information from part’s feature. Then, in order to avoid the overlap in dimensioning, it stratified the dimensioning zones. Finally, it constructed a hash function to determine the location of each layer. The method has been implemented in an engineering drawing dimensioning system based on Pro/E, and successfully applied to the dimensioning in engineering drawing of CNC gantry milling machine parts.

Abstract A scheme for automatic dimensioning of a part created by B-rep based modeling system is presented. Since size dimensions and location dimensions are required for defining part features in engineering drawings, part features are extracted first from a B-rep model for the automatic dimensioning. Faces which constitute a feature are found in two steps: the first by the edge-initiated approach and the second by the boundary-initiated approach. The recognized features are stored in a graph whose nodes are feature faces and edges represent their connections. Once all the features are recognized, a linked list of identification points, called a dimension link, is generated automatically for each direction of dimensioning the part. Then, size and location dimensions of the part features are directly created from the dimension link and placed on the most descriptive view.

By using AutoLISP language based on Autocad, the development process of the tray /carton CAD system should focus on software workflow and overall development program. The system uses nodes descript by a relatively polar coordinate, parametric design, the combination of box/carton-type library with box/carton components library, splicing design methods, etc. With the program designed by AutoLISP language, paper box/carton structure parametric drawing can be achieved according to the mathematical model. The system has the input data legality verification, error handling function, output expansion plan, and automatic dimensioning features.
