Blockchain is a novel distributed ledger technology. Through its features and smart contract capabilities, a wide range of application areas opened up for blockchain-based innovation [5]. In order to analyse how concrete blockchain systems as well as blockchain applications are used, data must be extracted from these systems. Due to various complexities inherent in blockchain, the question how to interpret such data is non-trivial. Such interpretation should often be shared among parties, e.g., if they collaborate via a blockchain. To this end, we devised an approach codify the interpretation of blockchain data, to extract data from blockchains accordingly, and to output it in suitable formats [1, 2]. This work will be the main topic of the keynote. In addition, application developers and users of blockchain applications may want to estimate the cost of using or operating a blockchain application. In the keynote, I will also discuss our cost estimation method [3, 4]. This method was designed for the Ethereum blockchain platform, where cost also relates to transaction complexity, and therefore also to system throughput.

This paper presents a mathematical model to estimate the life cycle cost (LCC) of heat exchanger and pump. Maintenance cost, down time cost and acquisition costs are calculated. The main uncertainty in calculating these costs are prediction of number of failure and cumulative down time. Number of failure is determined using failure and repair time density function. According to the characteristic that the cumulative failure probability observed, a Weibull distribution model is used. The scale and shape parameters of the Weibull are extracted from the published data. The results of the study show that 71.3% loss in the reliability of heat exchanger and 34.2% reliability loss in pump could lead to 66.2 % increment of the total cost. The reliability of the system decreases because of number of failures will increase each year, and this failure leads to unavailability of the system. Therefore in order to achieve higher system effectiveness and reduce the total LCC, the reliability of the systems need to be increased through proper maintenance policies and strategies. The results of the study could assist the managers to make decision with high degree of accuracy.

Aircrafts are responsible for a significant environmental impact mainly due to the air pollution caused by their motors. The use of composite materials for their production is a way to significantly reduce the weight of the structures and to maximise the ratio between the payload weight and the gasoline consumption. Moreover, the design phase has to consider the cost of different operations performed during the aircraft service life. During the entire life cycle, one of the main costs is the maintenance one. In the current literature, there is a lack of knowledge of methods for maintenance cost estimation in the aircraft industry; moreover, very few environmental assessment methods have been developed. Thus, the aim of this paper is to define a new method to support the aircraft design process; both the environmental and the economic dimensions have been included with the purpose of assessing the aircraft sustainability during its service life. A green index has been identified mixing the maintenance cost and an environmental parameter with the aim of identifying the greenest solution. A final practical application shows the feasibility and the simple application of the proposed approach.

Purpose – Due to the limitation of acknowledgment, the complexity of software system and the interference of noises, this paper aims to solve the traditional problem: traditional software cost estimation methods face the challenge of poor and uncertain inputs. Design/methodology/approach – Under such circumstances, different cost estimation methods vary greatly on estimation accuracy and effectiveness. Therefore, it is crucial to perform evaluation and selection on estimation methods against a poor information database. This paper presents a grey rough set model by introducing grey system theory into rough set based analysis, aiming for a better choice of software cost estimation method on accuracy and effectiveness. Findings – The results are very encouraging in the sense of comparison among four machine learning techniques and thus indicate it an effective approach to evaluate software cost estimation method where insufficient information is provided. Practical implications – Based on the grey rough set model, the decision targets can be classified approximately. Furthermore, the grey of information and the limitation of cognition can be overcome during the use of the grey rough interval correlation cluster method. Originality/value – This paper proposed the grey rough set model combining grey system theory with rough set for software cost estimation method evaluation and selection.

Abstract For reducing the maintenance cost of floating offshore wind turbine structures, it is necessary to establish a quantitative wear estimation method for the mooring chains. In this paper, attempts have been made to improve the accuracy of the estimation method in terms of the mooring chain model. These investigations were performed about a spar-type floater moored with three catenary mooring lines at Goto, Nagasaki prefecture, Japan. Up to now, the mass-spring model had been used for the mooring chain in response analysis and the relative angle between two spring lines was considered as only a sliding angle without friction. However, there is also rolling in the motion between mooring links, which should cause less wear than by sliding. In this study, the detailed motion of the link in response analysis is calculated and applied to the wear estimation by using a 3-D model in MSC. Adams. This enables the wear estimation considering link motion closer to a real phenomenon. A Contact analysis between the 3-D chain model requires some contact properties (e.g. contact stiffness and friction). In this paper, these properties are calculated based on the Hertzian contact method and FEM analysis. As a result, the wear amounts overestimated by using the mass-spring model in the previous investigation, especially at the point located clump weight and touchdown point, decrease getting closer to the measurements. In addition, by tracking the contact points it is found that the major motion caused between links is the rolling. For future works, there remains a need for further validation and the consideration of elasticity between mooring links, impressions caused by proof load test and the effect of corrosion.
