At the beginning of the new century, China’s economic growth accelerated. The demand of coal as a basic energy is keeping increase [1]. With the progress of the mining technology, changed the past low efficiency, backward mode of production, but there are still many adverse factors that restrict to the sustainable development of coal industry in China [2]. Through detailed analysis of the current situation of China coal industry, find out existing problems of Chinese coal industry sustainable development, and using the basic principle [3], to find suitable to Chinese coal industry sustainable development scientific proposition -- Circular Economy [4], using circular economy this scientific model to guide Chinese coal enterprises transformation and development, making Chinese coal enterprises realize sustainable development.

As one of the major value-added products of coal processing and utilization, coal pitch coke and coal tar pitch are used as raw materials to prepare high-purity graphite. The structure characteristics and properties were measured by experiments. The results show that the high-purity graphite has excellent physical properties: the skeletal density of 1.81–1.91 g/cm3, the Shore hardness of 45.5–66.6 Hs, the flexural strength of 33.0–46.1 MPa, the compressive strength of 65.6–75.8 MPa, the ash content of 67–181 ppm, the thermal expansion coefficient of 3.71–4.11 × 10–6/°C, and the electrical resistivity of 8.72–12.13 μΩ · m. Consequently, coal-based graphite materials have excellent properties and good application prospects in solar energy industry, which is an effective exploration for the transformation and upgrading of Chinese coal industry.

The continuous entry of new firms and exit of old ones might have substantial effects on productivity of energy supply. Since China is the world’s largest energy producer, productivity of energy supply in China is a significant issue, which affects sustainability. As a technical application, this paper investigates the productivity and dynamic changes of Chinese coal mining firms. We find that the total factor productivity (TFP) growth of coal supply in China is largely lagging behind the growth rate of coal production. The entry and exit of non-state-owned enterprise (non-SOE) partially provide explanation for the dynamic change of aggregate TFP. Specifically, non-state owned entrants induced by the coal price boom after 2003, which had negative effects on TFP of energy supply, while the exit of non-SOEs had positive effects. Furthermore, there is regional heterogeneity concerning the effects of entry and exit on energy supply productivity. More entrants induced by coal price boom are concentrated in non-main production region (non-MPR), while more exits are located in MPR due to the government’s enforcement. This provides explanation for the phenomena that productivity of energy supply in MPR gradually surpasses that in non-MPR. We also anticipate our paper to enhance understanding on the energy supply-side, which might further help us make informed decisions on energy planning and environmental policies.

Optimal allocation of coal resource is a major theme that can not be ignored to healthy development of Chinese coal industry. Based on the basis of analyzing the main factors that affect optimal allocation of coal resource, besides from five respects which are the sustainable development, new-type industrialization, industrial safety, recycling economy, and resource monitoring, this paper advances an evaluation index system of optimal allocation of coal resource. Further stepwise order relations analysis and comprehensive analysis with gain characteristic are also used in comprehensive evaluation. Finally it supplies a method that can be used for reference to quantitative evaluation of optimal allocation of coal resource.

The consumption of coal is increasing continuously with the development of economy. Coal accounting for 70% of total primary energy supply is the most key energy source in China. Thus, the modernization construction of coal industry is very important for China. The goal of this study is to research the present situation and future tasks of large-scale coal bases and modern mines construction in China. The results show that China is orderly constructing 14 large-scale coal bases. In the large-scale coal bases, more and more modern mines have been built, but Chinese coal industry modernization level still remains a lower level. At the same time, the results show that modern mine construction is not balanced in different bases. Based on the existing experience, therefore, promoting coal production capacity, applying the advanced technologies or methods, and advancing further modern mine construction, are major tasks of Chinese coal industry at present and in the future.
