One of the measures to eliminate the consequences of the Chernobyl accident was the exclusion of highly contaminated land from agricultural use. Due to the positive dynamics of the radiation situation, the issue of land return becomes relevant. However, in the period of exclusion of these lands the land clearance degradation processes were developing. The second part of the article is devoted to the issue of economic evaluation of the expediency of land return and the mutual coordination of the results of separate stages of complex ecological and economic evaluation. The research was carried out in Mogilev branch Institute of radiology (Republic of Belarus).

In Ukraine 57.5 % of agricultural land is subjected to erosion with 10–24 million tons of humus, 0.3–0.96 million tons of nitrogen, 0.7–0.9 million tons of phosphorus and 6–12 million tons of potassium lost annually. Degradation processes are also common on chernozems, which cover about 60 % of the Ukrainian territory. The aim of the research is to defi ne the most eff ective soil conservation practices and legislative decisions aimed to conservation/recovering the Ukrainian chernozem fertility. The experimental data of the agrochemical certifi cation of Ukrainian lands, data from scientifi c papers, stock and instructional materials as well as our own fi eld and laboratory studies were used. It has been established that the long-term use of deep subsurface tillage on typical chernozem increases, compared with plowing, the content of 10–0.25 mm of air-dry and water-resistant aggregates, the bulk density, soil water storages, water infi ltration rates, the content of mobile phosphorus and exchangeable potassium, pHH2O, CaCO3 stocks, the contents of humic and fulvic acids, molecular weights of humic acids – by 5.5 and 3.06 %; 0.05 g/cm3; 25.5 mm; 22.6 mm/h; 0.1 and 3 mg/100 g of soil; 0.03 pHH2O; 18 t/ha, 0.02 and 0.04 %, 91195 kDa, respectively. Fertilizers may contribute to the crop yields increase from by 60% in the Polissya, by 40 % – in the Forest Steppe, by 15 % – in the Wet Steppe, by 10 % – in the Dry Steppe and by 40 % – in the Irrigated Steppe areas. In soil-conservation rotations, the crop placement and alternation are advisable to combine with strips or hills sowing, taking into account the local relief features; soil alkalinization, applying anti-erosion structures. Ukrainian agriculture will receive additional 10–12 million tons of forage units or 20–22 % from all fodder in a fi eld agriculture under increasing 8–10 % of arable lands for intercrops. It is advisable to mulch the eroded chernozems of Ukraine depending on their texture composition: 1.3 t/ha of mulch for sandy and loamy soils, 1.9 t/ha – for sandy and 1.1 t/ha – for loamy soils. The implementation of soil conservation agriculture can minimize some soil degradation processes and improve eff ective soil properties required to realize the biological potential of cultivated plants. Key words: chernozem, degradation, fertility, soil conservation technologies, agriculture policy.

The influence of some factors on spironolactone stability in solution was studied, by applying high-performance liquid chromatography, as a part of a pharmaceutical preformulation study in order to obtain a spironolactone solution for alopecia treatment. Solutions of 1 mg/ml spironolactone in aqueous ethanolic solution 1 : 1 and in 20 mM cyclodextrines solutions (b-, hydroxi-b- and methyl-b-cyclodextrine) was used, maintained at 8 and 22 C, protected from light and after UV irradiation at 254 nm. The main degradation products were 7a-thiospirolactone and canrenone. The most stable solutions were the alcoholic ones and with methyl-beta-cyclodextrine, but the simultaneous action of temperature and UV irradiation allowed degradation processes after one hour of exposure, more aggressive in the presence of methyl-beta-cyclodextrine. In conclusion, for alopecia treatment with spironolactone a 1 mg/mL ethanolic solution could be used and it is recommendable the protection of treated zone.

Background: Several studies suggest women may be disproportionately affected by poorer stroke outcomes than men. This study aims to investigate whether women have a higher risk of all-cause mortality and recurrence after an ischemic stroke than men in a rural population in central Pennsylvania, United States. Methods: We analyzed consecutive ischemic stroke patients captured in the Geisinger NeuroScience Ischemic Stroke research database from 2004 to 2019. Kaplan–Meier (KM) estimator curves stratified by gender and age were used to plot survival probabilities and Cox Proportional Hazards Ratios were used to analyze outcomes of all-cause mortality and the composite outcome of ischemic stroke recurrence or death. Fine–Gray Competing Risk models were used for the outcome of recurrent ischemic stroke, with death as the competing risk. Two models were generated; Model 1 was adjusted by data-driven associated health factors, and Model 2 was adjusted by traditional vascular risk factors. Results: Among 8900 adult ischemic stroke patients [median age of 71.6 (interquartile range: 61.1–81.2) years and 48% women], women had a higher crude all-cause mortality. The KM curves demonstrated a 63.3% survival in women compared with a 65.7% survival in men ( p = 0.003) at 5 years; however, the survival difference was not present after controlling for covariates, including age, atrial fibrillation or flutter, myocardial infarction, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, heart failure, chronic lung diseases, rheumatic disease, chronic kidney disease, neoplasm, peripheral vascular disease, past ischemic stroke, past hemorrhagic stroke, and depression. There was no adjusted or unadjusted sex difference in terms of recurrent ischemic stroke or composite outcome. Conclusion: Sex was not an independent risk factor for all-cause mortality and ischemic stroke recurrence in the rural population in central Pennsylvania.

Abstract Background Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infection (SAB) is a common, life-threatening infection. The impact of immunosuppressive agents on the outcome of patients with SAB is incompletely understood. Methods Data from two large prospective, international, multicenter cohort studies (INSTINCT and ISAC) between 2006 and 2015 were analyzed. Patients receiving immunosuppressive agents were identified and a 1:1 propensity score (PS) matched analysis was performed to adjust for baseline characteristics of patients. Overall survival and time to SAB-related late complications (SAB relapse, infective endocarditis, osteomyelitis, or other deep-seated manifestations) were analyzed by Cox regression and competing risk analyses, respectively. This approach was then repeated for specific immunosuppressive agents (corticosteroids [CSMT] and immunosuppressive agents other than steroids [IMOTS]). Results Of 3,188 analyzed patients, 309 were receiving immunosuppressive treatment according to our definitions and were matched to 309 non-immunosuppressed patients. After PS matching, baseline characteristics were well balanced. In the Cox regression analysis, we observed no significant difference in survival between the two groups (death during follow-up: 105/309 (33.9 %) immunosuppressed patients vs. 94/309 (30.4 %) non-immunosuppressed, hazard ratio 1.20 (95% CI 0.84–1.71). Competing risk analysis showed a cause-specific hazard ratio (CSHR) of 1.81 (95% CI 0.85–3.87) for SAB-related late-complications in patients receiving immunosuppressive agents. CSHR was higher in patients taking IMOTS (3.69; 95% CI 1.41–9.68). Conclusions Immunosuppressive agents were not associated with an overall higher mortality. The risk for SAB-related late complications in patients receiving specific immunosuppressive agents such as IMOTs warrants further investigations.
