Successful school library programs occur through careful planning and reflection. School librarians who are reflective practitioners observe how learning occurs in the library and the classroom and consider ways to improve it. They consult research and collaborate with teachers so students are more successful. This reflective process is improved when it is applied in a systematic way, through action research. With action research, reflection is based on evidence, using data collected by the practitioner.This study presents cumulative outcomes from 156 action research projects conducted by 39 school librarians. It also includes results from a follow-up survey completed by 19 of the 39 school librarians that demonstrates how conducting action research affects their sense of professional efficacy.

The purpose of this study was to examine the circumstances that prompted the school administrators to construct a new library that included modern library spaces, resources and facilities, to find out the strategies used to build the new library and to determine the perceived effects that the new spaces, resources and facilities have on students’ cognitive and social development. This research took an evaluative case study approach. Purposive sampling was used to select the school principal, the school librarian and eight students. The principal and school librarian were interviewed and open ended interview schedules were administered to the students. The findings revealed that the design of the library, the resources and the facilities had a positive impact on students’ cognitive and social development. It was recommended that the Ministry of Education Youth and Information re-design or construct similar school libraries on a phase basis because of the positive educational impact.

The list of multiple tasks expected from a school librarian include a wide range of activities. Activity of crucial importance is advocating and argumentation how important is the development of basic literacy skills. The role of school librarians is unavoidable in this process. This presentation will show an example of school library practice and focus on the role of school librarian as designer, provider and researcher in the case study research at the school level. This research was done as an activity during international Erasmus+ project called RECEPTION (Role of Early Childhood Education in positive Transition/Introduction Outcomes for New pupils).

In this global, multicultural world requiring greater levels of literacy, independent learning and collaboration, the school library as a learning hub needs to meet the needs of 21st century students. However, more information about how different countries’ school library policies and practices is required for nations to learn from each other. This professional panel brings together three presenters from Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan to engage with the issue of what counts as a future-ready library in their own contexts of reading and learning. Each presenter will focus on the current trends, challenges and innovations in their own contexts, with particular focus on national policies, practices and librarian education. Significant parallels and differences across the different systems will be discussed. Implications for developing future-ready school libraries and librarians at national level will be discussed.

My name is Stephanie, and I am a collector. What are my favorite things to collect? That’s easy—dolls! I bought my first Barbie when I was six years old. I was given a doll from Morocco at age seven. To this day, I continue to collect both Barbies and international dolls, but my third collection now numbers eight hundred dolls. During my first year as an elementary school librarian in 1979, I began to collect dolls based on characters from children’s books.I wanted to add some zip and zing to class visits at my school library. The previous school librarian had plugged boys and girls into listening stations with worksheets each time they came to the library. I felt my students were missing out by not hearing fantastic tales from exotic places and visiting magical worlds of wonder.Bottom line, I wanted them to experience the joy found within the covers of books. That’s when the first dolls from children’s books—Corduroy, Curious George, the Cat in the Hat, and Winnie-the-Pooh—found their way into my shopping basket and my storytelling repertoire.

The school library is a library in a school to support the teaching and learning activities and objectives of the parent school. In terms of the collection, the library has a standard, both from the number of collections as well as the depth of the collection. There needs to be the selection policy as part of a collection development policy so that these standards are fulfilled. This paper uses literature study method. This paper provides guidance to the school librarian about the things that need to be considered in making the selection policy. Selection policy must consider the amount of collection, type of collection, the suitability of the curriculum, language, and so forth.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, all schools had to close their doors last year. Classes moved to a virtual environment, and students and teachers were left without the opportunity to visit school libraries overnight. Therefore, the school library of the Prva gimnazija Maribor has operated smoothly throughout the time of the epidemic and strives to facilitate the work of students, teachers, and other employees as much as possible, continue to promote reading, develop reading and information literacy, and at the same time enrich the educational process. The article presents how we found our way to our readers despite the difficult situation.

Primary and secondary level of education are essential elements for character building and success of younger generation in developing the nation. Education and learning at this level will very much determine how in the future and individual is able to play role and be competitive in the nation’s development. One of the important element in the strategy of educational learning in school which is often forgotten by decision makers of principals and library managers is the library. Library operation in schools and mandrassas with a policy that has high legitimacy, should be implemented immediately. How ever, what happened was the opposite. By reason of limited fund, time and energy, many schools choose not to implement the rule about library.Base on this issue, this research studied the policy of principals regarding the implementations of act No. 43 of 2007, Government Regulation No. 19 of 2005 and Ministry of National Education Regulations No. 25 of 2008. The research was conducted in 6 schools and the questionnaire was distributed to 6 principals and 12 library staff in Bandung city. The results showed that understanding of three regulations was in very good category with the score of 1157 out of 1230 for the principals.The same category also applied to the library staff with the score of 1613 out of 1800. This suggests that the principals had known about the organization of school library. Likewise, school librarian have also understood and were able to carry out their duties in accordance with the existing regulations related to the operation of school library.
