By installing FBG sensors on the geogrids, smart geogrids can both reinforce and monitor the stability for geogrid-reinforced slopes. In this paper, a geogrid-reinforced sand slope model test was conducted in the laboratory and fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensing technology is used to measure the strain distribution of the geogrid. Based on the model test, the performance of the reinforced soil slope is simulated by finite element software Midas-GTS, and the stability of the reinforced soil slope is analyzed by strength reduction method. The relationship between the geogrid strain and safety factor is set up. The results indicate that the measured strain and calculated results agree very well. The geogrid strain measured by FBG sensor can be applied to evaluate the stability of geogrid-reinforced sand slopes.

In this study, the failure mode of flexible reinforced soil slopes under earthquake action was investigated by shaking table tests. The distribution law of a potential failure surface of a flexible no-faceplate reinforced soil slope under earthquake action was obtained based on the analysis results. A simplified trilinear failure surface suitable for flexible reinforced soil slopes without faceplate was proposed. Subsequently, based on the upper-bound theorem of limit analysis, we derived the formula for calculating the yield seismic acceleration coefficient of a flexible no-faceplate reinforced soil slope under a seismic load. The main parameters that affect its seismic performance were determined. The flexible geogrid reverse-packed reinforced earth structure can effectively limit the fracture of a slope body and improve the stability of the slope. This provides a theoretical basis for facilitating the engineering of flexible reinforced soil slopes.

The stability of soil slope under seepage is calculated and analyzed by using finite element method based on the technique of shear strength reduction. When the condition of seepage or not is considered respectively, the critical failure state of slopes and corresponding safety coefficients can be determined by the numerical analysis and calculation. Besides, through analyzing and comparing the calculation results, it shows that seepage has a negative impact on slope stability.

As the complexity of unsaturated soil theory, and it must have a long test period when we study the unsaturated soils, so the conventional design analysis software does not provide such analysis, so we can imagine that such a slope stability analysis does not accurately reflect the actual state of the slope. Based on the known soil moisture content, this paper use the soil water characteristic curve and strength theory of unsaturated soil to calculate the strength reduction parameters of soil which can calculate the stability of the soil slope when using the common calculation method. It is noticeable that this method can be extended and applied if we establish regional databases for this simple method, and these databases can improve the accuracy of the calculation of slope stability.

The current study performs a dynamic analysis of a rotor supported by two couple stress fluid film journal bearings with non-linear suspension. The dynamics of the rotor centre and bearing centre are studied. The analysis of the rotor—bearing system is investigated under the assumptions of a couple-stress lubricant and a short journal bearing approximation. The displacements in the horizontal and vertical directions are considered for various non-dimensional speed ratios. The analysis methods employed in this study include the dynamic trajectories of the rotor centre and the bearing centre, Poincaré maps, and bifurcation diagrams. The Lyapunov exponent analysis is also used to identify the onset of chaotic motion. Numerical results show that the stability of the system varies with the non-dimensional speed ratios. Specifically, it is found that the system is quasi-periodic at a small speed ratio ( s = 0.5). At speed ratios of s = 0.6–0.7, the system is periodic. At s = 0.8–1.9, the system is quasi-periodic, but the system is periodic at s = 2.0–2.6. However, the system exhibits chaotic motion at the speed ratios s = 2.7–2.74. At the speed ratios s = 2.75–3.16, the system becomes periodic. At s = 3.17–3.30, the system is unstable. The Poincaré map has a particular form at s = 3.17, indicative of a chaotic motion. At s = 3.31–6.0, the system finally becomes periodic. The results also confirm that the stability of the system varies with the non-dimensional speed ratios s and l∗. The results of this study allow suitable system parameters to be defined such that undesirable behaviour of the rotor centre can be avoided and the bearing system life extended as a result.

Employing the Lotka -Voltera (1926) prey-predator model equation, the system is presented with harvesting effort for both species prey and predator. We analyze the stability of the system of ordinary differential equation after calculating the Eigen values of the system. We include the harvesting term for both species in the model equation, and observe the dynamic analysis of prey-predator populations by including the harvesting efforts on the model equation. We also analyze the population dynamic of the system by varying the harvesting efforts on the system. The model equation are solved numerically by applying Runge - Kutta fourth order method.

The stability of the slope is a complex system affected by many factors, with the characteristics of randomness and fuzziness. In the paper established the model of the support vector machine, which make use of the support vector machine considering the multiple factors affected the slope stability, and select the indicators with the characteristic of common and easy access. Through the actual inspection verified the validity of the model, shows that the model can be well applied to the analysis of slope stability with similarity, it may provide an important basis for the slope project construction.
