At present, the quality of bitumen-mineral mixtures both on the territory of the Russian Federation and abroad is estimated by a set of em-pirical methods based on many years of experience in the use of asphalt in road construction. In different years, numerous attempts were made to theoretically substantiate the basic patterns of material behavior under the influence of various factors. The article describes the solution of this problem using the basic provisions of phys-chemical mechanics of highly concentrated disperse systems taking into account the specifics of contact interactions. As a result of researches the quantitative correlations of indicators of physical-mechanical and structural-rheological properties forming at compaction of mixtures mixes, quantitative interconnections between formative and Destructive factors with structural-mechanical and construction-technical properties of asphalt in road coverings. It has been established that the changes in the structure of asphalt have physical-chemical nature and are reliably described taking into account the basic provisions of phys-chemical mechanics and theories of contact interactions.

Stable colloidal sols are always charged, and disperse systems in water appear in most cases to acquire a constant electrokinetic potential of 70 m.v. When the electrokinetic potential falls to 30 m.v. coagulation commences and the rate of coagulation is, as Hardy first pointed out, most rapid at the isoelectric point. Thus the question on what the stability of a colloidal system rests must ultimately be referred to the magnitude of the electrokinetic potential and the methods by which this is increased or decreased in solution.

Sedimentation of water dispersed systems of acrylate copolymers in xylene Methyl methacrylate - butyl acrylate - methacrylic acid copolymer and butyl methacrylate - methacrylic acid amide copolymer of a different segmental structure were stabilised with non-ionic and anionic surfactants. Gel chromatography, viscosimetry, tensiometry, conductometry and sedimentation methods were applied to define the properties of the synthesized copolymers, surfactants in water solutions and water dispersions. The types and the properties of the phases being in a state of sedimentation balance were also determined. The obtained experimental data were interpreted and justified by using the copolymer and surfactants properties. The existing correlations were pointed out. The obtained results show that the stability of a disperse system considerably depends on the structure of the copolymer. The MMA/BA/MAA copolymer has monomeric units of elastic butyl acrylate. Segments containing these monomeric units adsorb surfactants much better and form more stable water disperse systems. However, the MBA/AMAA copolymer with the polarity of amide group of methacrylamide makes disperse systems less stable.
