Technical systems in the modern global world are rapidly evolving and improving. In most cases, these are large-scale multi-level systems and one of the problems that arises in the design process of such systems is to determine their reliability. Accordingly, in the paper, a mathematical model based on the Weibull distribution has been developed for determining a computer network reliability. In order to simplify calculating the reliability characteristics, the system is considered to be a hierarchical one, ramified to level 2, with bypass through the level. The developed model allows us to define the following parameters: the probability distribution of the count of working output elements, the availability function of the system, the duration of the system’s stay in each of its working states, and the duration of the system’s stay in the prescribed availability condition. The accuracy of the developed model is high. It can be used to determine the reliability parameters of the large, hierarchical, ramified systems. The research results of modelling a local area computer network are presented. In particular, we obtained the following best option for connecting workstations: 4 of them are connected to the main hub, and the rest (16) are connected to the second level hub, with a time to failure of 4818 h.

Network anomaly detection has been focused on by more people with the fast development of computer network. Some researchers utilized fusion method and DS evidence theory to do network anomaly detection but with low performance, and they did not consider features of network—complicated and varied. To achieve high detection rate, we present a novel network anomaly detection system with optimized Dempster-Shafer evidence theory (ODS) and regression basic probability assignment (RBPA) function. In this model, we add weights for each senor to optimize DS evidence theory according to its previous predict accuracy. And RBPA employs sensor’s regression ability to address complex network. By four kinds of experiments, we find that our novel network anomaly detection model has a better detection rate, and RBPA as well as ODS optimization methods can improve system performance significantly.

This research team proposes a network survivability evaluation method (Survivability Algorithm based on Immune Clonal Simulated Annealing, SAICSA), is used to solve the problem of network congestion due to link failure in communication network. The method by establishing the clone variation and the clone crossover operation rules, combined with the simulated annealing acceptance criteria to obtain the optimal annealing temperature tends to zero. At the same time, simulation experiment is carried out to the actual data, in-depth study of the relationship between network validity and effect the number of edges, the initial temperature and other factors. The results show that, compared to the immunization program of simulated annealing algorithm and genetic simulated annealing algorithm, SAICSA algorithm shows good adaptability.

Evaluating the reliability of a network with multiple sources to multiple sinks is a critical issue from the perspective of quality management. Due to the unrealistic definition of paths of network models in previous literature, existing models are not appropriate for real-world computer networks such as the Taiwan Advanced Research and Education Network (TWAREN). This paper proposes a modified stochastic-flow network model to evaluate the network reliability of a practical computer network with multiple sources where data is transmitted through several light paths (LPs). Network reliability is defined as being the probability of delivering a specified amount of data from the sources to the sink. It is taken as a performance index to measure the service level of TWAREN. This paper studies the network reliability of the international portion of TWAREN from two sources (Taipei and Hsinchu) to one sink (New York) that goes through a submarine and land surface cable between Taiwan and the United States.

To decrease network link cost is one of the most important pairs for computer network reliability optimization design. In order to make the network cost minimum, the network link medium cost, mathematics model of reliability and resolve algorithm must be considered when it is designed. In the paper, we present an improved genetic algorithm used in optimization calculation for minimizing total link cost and increasing the reliability of the network. Executive procedures of the improved algorithm are described. The simulation results show that improved genetic algorithm provides a method to resolves the network reliability optimization problem which normal approach can not resolve. By using the maneuverable algorithm, optimization process is accelerated, efficiency is increased.
