Carbon-like materials such as the anode and the ramming paste play a crucial role in the efficiency of the Hall–Héroult process. The mechanical behavior of these materials during forming processes is complex and still ill-understood. This work aimed to investigate experimentally the mechanical behavior of a carbon paste used in the aluminum industry under different loading conditions. For this purpose, experiments consisting of (1) relaxation tests at different compaction levels, (2) quasi-static cyclic tests at several amplitudes, (3) monotonic compaction tests at varied strain rates, and (4) vibrocompaction tests at different frequencies were carried out. The obtained results highlight some fundamental aspects of the carbon paste behavior such as the strain rate’s effect on the paste compressibility, the hardening-softening behavior under cyclic loadings, the effect of cycling amplitude on the stress state and the paste densification, and the frequency effect on the vibrocompaction process. These results pave the way for the development of reliable rheological models for the modeling and the numerical simulation of carbon pastes forming processes.

The plate’s mechanical behavior of three-roller plate bending machine had been analyzed in case of upper roller feeding based on ANSYS. Strain and stress distribution of the plate and its changes are gained. The influence of upper roller’s feeding location and bending velocity to bending process are researched. The results are valuable to bending process optimization and practical technique of plate bending.

The aim of this study is to have a comprehensive understanding of the mechanical behavior of rock masses around excavation under different value of intermediate principal stress. Numerical simulation was performed to investigate the influence of intermediate principal stress using a new polyaxial strength criterion which takes polyaxial state of stress into account. In order to equivalently substitute polyaxial failure criterion with Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, a mathematical relationship was established between these two failure criteria. The influence of intermediate principal stress had been analyzed when Mohr-Coulomb strength criterion and polyaxial strength criterion were applied in the numerical simulation, respectively. Results indicate that intermediate principal stress has great influence on the mechanical behavior of rock masses; rock strength enhanced by intermediate principal stress is significant based on polyaxial strength criterion; the results of numerical simulation under Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion show that it does not exert a significant influence on rock strength. Results also indicate that when intermediate principal stress is relatively small, polyaxial strength criterion is not applicable.

Salt rock is think of ideal storage location for oil and natural gas and radioactive waste deposited, interlayer has negative effect on stability of cavern of storage for oil and natural gas and radioactive waste deposited in salt rock, It is difficult to make complete specimen layered salt rock with interlayer. In this paper Based on Rock Failure Process Analysis Code RAFP2D, influence of mudstone interlayer on uniaxial compressive strength of salt rock is investigated by numerical simulation. Numerical simulation shown that when mechanical parameters such as elastic modulus poison’s ratio and uniaxial compressive strength for salt rock and pure mudstone interlayer and content of mudstone interlayer in salt rock are known, compressive strength and mechanical behavior for salt rock with mudstone interlayer can be effectively and accurately analyzed using RFAP2D. The results for numerical simulation are agreement with true physical experiment of salt rock with mudstone interlayer. It should be noticed that the true physical experimental uniaxial compressive strength of rock is in range of 30% mean uniaxial compressive strength of rock element in RFPA2D,in this case the results for numerical simulation can reflect phenomenon and behavior for true physical experiment of salt rock with mudstone interlayer. That provides new method and avenue to analyze and investigate mechanical behavior for multilayer rock mass based on RAFP2D
