AbstractFixed and induced point dipoles have been implemented in the Ewald and Particle-Mesh Ewald (PME) formalisms. During molecular dynamics (MD) the induced dipoles can be propagated along with the atomic positions either by interation to self-consistency at each time step, or by a Car-Parrinello (CP) technique using an extended Lagrangian formalism. The use of PME for electrostatics of fixed charges and induced dipoles together with a CP treatment of dipole propagation in MD simulations leads to a cost overhead of only 33% above that of MD simulations using standard PME with fixed charges, allowing the study of polarizability in largemacromolecular systems.

We introduce the notion of finite BRST–anti-BRST transformations for constrained dynamical systems in the generalized Hamiltonian formalism, both global and field-dependent, with a doublet λa, a = 1, 2, of anticommuting Grassmann parameters and find explicit Jacobians corresponding to these changes of variables in the path integral. It turns out that the finite transformations are quadratic in their parameters. Exactly as in the case of finite field-dependent BRST–anti-BRST transformations for the Yang–Mills vacuum functional in the Lagrangian formalism examined in our previous paper [arXiv:1405.0790 [hep-th]], special field-dependent BRST–anti-BRST transformations with functionally-dependent parameters λa= ∫ dt(saΛ), generated by a finite even-valued function Λ(t) and by the anticommuting generators saof BRST–anti-BRST transformations, amount to a precise change of the gauge-fixing function for arbitrary constrained dynamical systems. This proves the independence of the vacuum functional under such transformations. We derive a new form of the Ward identities, depending on the parameters λaand study the problem of gauge dependence. We present the form of transformation parameters which generates a change of the gauge in the Hamiltonian path integral, evaluate it explicitly for connecting two arbitrary Rξ-like gauges in the Yang–Mills theory and establish, after integration over momenta, a coincidence with the Lagrangian path integral [arXiv:1405.0790 [hep-th]], which justifies the unitarity of the S-matrix in the Lagrangian approach.

By using the Hubbard [Formula: see text]-operators as field variables along with the supersymmetric version of the Faddeev–Jackiw symplectic formalism, a family of first-order constrained Lagrangians for the t-J model is found. In order to satisfy the Hubbard [Formula: see text]-operator commutation rules satisfying the graded algebra spl(2,1), the number and kind of constraints that must be included in a classical first-order Lagrangian formalism for this model are presented. The model is also analyzed via path-integral formalism, where the correlation-generating functional and the effective Lagrangian are constructed. In this context, the introduction of a proper ghost field is needed to render the model renormalizable. The perturbative Lagrangian formalism is developed and it is shown how propagators and vertices can be renormalized to each order. In particular, the renormalized ferromagnetic magnon propagator arising in the present formalism is discussed. As an example, the thermal softening of the magnon frequency is computed.

Using the Lagrangian formalism we attempt to introduce a new Hamiltonian for fermions. On this basis we have evaluated the expectation values for the interaction energy between fermions via bosons. The interaction energy between two fermions via phonons becomes attractive in a degenerate fermion-gas. The interaction energy between two fermions via photons appears to be attractive in certain conditions. The self-energy of the fermion + boson system, e.g. polaron and polariton, was evaluated.

In this paper, we use the Lagrangian formalism of classical mechanics and some assumptions to obtain cosmological differential equations analogous to Friedmann and Einstein equations, obtained from the theory of general relativity. This method can be used to a universe constituted of incoherent matter, that is, the cosmologic substratum is comprised of dust.

The Universe

Nonlocal gravity models are constructed to explain the current acceleration of the universe. These models are inspired by the infrared correction appearing in Einstein–Hilbert action. Here, we develop the Hamiltonian formalism of a nonlocal model by considering only terms to quadratic order in Riemann tensor, Ricci tensor and Ricci scalar. We show how to count degrees of freedom using Hamiltonian formalism including Ricci tensor and Ricci scalar terms. In this model, we have also worked out with a choice of a nonlocal action which has only two degrees of freedom equivalent to GR. Finally, we find the existence of additional constraints in Hamiltonian required to remove the ghosts in our full action. We also compare our results with that of obtained using Lagrangian formalism.

We show how to systematically derive the exact form of local symmetries for the Abelian Proca and CS models, which are converted into first-class constrained systems by the BFT formalism, in the Lagrangian formalism. As a result, without resorting to a Hamiltonian formulation we obtain the well-known U(1) symmetry for the gauge-invariant Proca model, while showing that for the CS model there exist novel symmetries as well as the usual symmetry transformations.
