The field of cardio-oncology has received increasing attention in recent years. This is due to the fact that the results of a large number of clinical studies on antitumor therapy, covering issues treatments side effects, including associated cardiovascular pathology, are published. Advances in treatment have led to improved survival of patients with cancer, but have also increased clinical significance of treatment side effects. Myocardium, having high metabolic activity, responds to substrate and energy imbalance under the action of increasing malignancy and toxic effects of radio- or chemotherapy. Finding of baseline risk factors, timely identification of cardiovascular diseases, ability to predict the long-term consequences of cancer treatment-associated cardiovascular side effects lead to improving of the prognosis and quality of life, avoiding of over-diagnosis cardiovascular diseases and inappropriating violation of life-saving treatment of a malignant tumor.

BACKGROUND Progresses in childhood cancer treatment, diagnosis, and management have resulted in childhood cancer survival rates of over 80%. However, this therapeutic success comes with a heavy price: two-thirds of childhood cancer survivors will be affected by further complications, including cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Adequate nutrition during cancer treatment is essential to ensure the child’s optimal development, improve tolerance to treatments, and can contribute to lower the risk of developing cardiometabolic diseases. Side effects of cancer treatments can negatively impact children’s nutritional intake and eating behaviors. Involving the families of childhood cancer patients in educational workshops could be a promising avenue to promote healthy eating during and after cancer treatment. OBJECTIVE The objectives of this study were to develop, validate, and implement a family-based nutrition education and cooking workshop curriculum in a pediatric oncology setting that addresses the nutritional issues encountered during treatments while promoting the adoption of healthy eating habits for the prevention of long-term cardiometabolic effects. METHODS The workshops were developed and validated following an 8-step iterative process, including a review of the literature and consultations with a steering committee. An evaluation tool was also developed. A nonrandomized study protocol was elaborated to implement the workshops and measure their impact. The themes of the 6 research- and practice-based lessons are as follows: meal fortification during cancer treatment, changes in taste during cancer therapy and their impact on children, adapting diet to eating-related side effects of treatments, nutritional support during cancer treatment, Mediterranean diet and health, and planning quick and economic meals. The validation process included consultations with the institution’s clinical nutrition professionals. Self-administered post questionnaires were developed according to the content of each workshop to measure short-term outcomes, namely, participants’ perception of knowledge acquisition, behavioral intention, and satisfaction. Medium-term outcomes that will be evaluated are participants’ anthropometric profile, quality of the diet, and circulating biomarkers of metabolic health. RESULTS The project was funded in 2016 and enrollment will be completed in 2021. Data analysis is currently under way and the first results are expected to be submitted for publication in 2019. CONCLUSIONS This research- and practice-based nutrition education and cooking demonstration curriculum could be a valuable complement to a multidisciplinary lifestyle intervention for the prevention of long-term cardiometabolic complications in childhood cancer.

Cancer is a global disease, so rational and effective treatment is needed. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in a woman and now the number of patients is increasing day by day. Therefore, development and research are underway for the effective treatment of breast cancer. Breast cancer treatment depends on the stage of cancer and the risk, based on this medical agents should be employed on patients to prevent breast cancer. In addition, breast cancer survival rates are rising which is good news for science but on the other hand the side effects of treatment present new challenges. An early-stage cancer diagnosis can save a patient's active or healthy life due to long-term and varied treatments that can be used for cancer otherwise breast cancer is a life-threatening disease. Breast cancer survivors not only have negative side effects of cancer treatment but also, have many other issues of previous treatment so it is a challenge for researchers. As a result, this review article deals with the effective treatment of breast cancer and its side effects. This review will help researchers better understand the long-term medical implications for breast cancer.

In the world the cancer is a prevailing disease therefore some rational and effective therapy required. Such treatments are reducing the mortality and morbidity but constant monitoring of drug adverse effect. Moreover, it has been seen that the survival rates in breast cancer is rising that is good news for science but on the other side the side effects of the treatments bring new challenges.  The early stage diagnosis of the breast cancer can survive the effective or healthy patient life because of long-term and various treatment can be employed on the cancer disease otherwise breast cancer is life threatening illness. Survivors of breast cancer have not only the side effects issues of the cancer therapy treatment but also, they have many other issues of previous treatments therefore it is challenging job for the researchers. Consequently, this review article is dealing with the breast cancer effective treatments and side effects of it. Moreover, it includes the other long-term medical issues after breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. This review will help to the researchers for better understanding of the long-term medical issues in the breast cancer.

As radiation therapy is needed by approximately 50% of patients with cancer there needs to be ongoing research to ensure that radiation therapy targets the tumour effectively and minimises potential side effects. Major advances in radiation therapy, due to improvements in engineering and computing, have made it more precise, reducing side effects and improving cancer control. Patients need to be informed of its risks, both short and long term, to enable them to be active participants in their cancer treatment path.

Head and neck cancer treatment can result in devastating side effects that diminish quality of life, sometimes for a lifetime. The purpose of this article is to highlight the importance of oral integrity in minimizing side effects to optimize long-term function in patients treated for head and neck cancer. We will present the value of a comprehensive pre-treatment assessment. We will describe the oral complications associated with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy and offer approaches in management of acute and chronic complications.

Abstract Cancer treatment can have long-term side effects in cured patients and infertility is one of them. Given the urgency of diagnosis in children with cancer, the toxicity of treatments on the gonad was overshadowed for a long time. In the present study, prepubertal mice were treated by vincristine or cyclophosphamide commonly used in acute leukaemia treatment. The prepubertal exposure to cyclophosphamide, at a low gonadotoxic dose in humans (< 3.5 g/m2), led to morphological alterations of prepubertal testicular tissue. An increased proportion of spermatozoa with hypocondensed chromatin and oxidized DNA associated with decreased fertility were uncovered at adulthood. Short- and long-term morphological alterations of the testicular tissue, disturbed progression of spermatogenesis along with increased proportions of isolated flagella and spermatozoa with fragmented DNA were evidenced in vincristine-treated mice. Moreover, the fertility of mice exposed to vincristine was severely affected despite being considered low-risk for fertility in humans. Paternal exposure to vincristine or cyclophosphamide before puberty had no impact on offspring development. Contrary to the current gonadotoxic risk classification, our results using a mouse model show that vincristine and cyclophosphamide (< 3.5 g/m2) present a high gonadotoxic risk when administered before the initiation of spermatogenesis.

SummaryHydroxyurea (HU) is usually a well tolerated antineoplastic agent and is commonly used in the treatment of chronic myeloproliferative diseases. Dermatological side effects are frequently seen in patients receiving longterm HU therapy. Cutaneous ulcers have been reported occasionally.We report on four patients with cutaneous ulcers whilst on long-term hydroxyurea therapy for myeloproliferative diseases. In all patients we were able to reduce the dose, or stop HU altogether and their ulcers markedly improved. Our observations suggest that cutaneous ulcers should be considered as possible side effect of long-term HU therapy and healing of the ulcers can be achieved not only by cessation of the HU treatment, but also by reducing the dose of hydroxyurea for a limited time.
